You could certainly make it work, but I doubt that’s what KM has in mind. We’re still light on numbers of midfielders compared to forwards.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

why do people keep putting Johnson in their line ups?…he’s been crap so far and ashley young is surely a better bet in that position…

No. We haven’t played three in midfield since KM joined.

Hmm... let me hazard a guess...

Because McKenna does?

The top teams seem to.

Arsenal with Odegaard, Rice and Zubimendi

Liverpool with Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister

I really don't think he's been any more crap than most of our starters in this season's games so far, and at least he's prepared to have a shot, which has to happen if we're going to score any goals.

I do agree that Young has been better, but his involvement will surely depend heavily on managing his workload. And Kieran and his team clearly have a lot more information about fitness than we do. If Young can play 40+ league games for us as a 30 minute sub, then that may well be a massive contribution. If he's able to start 20 or 30 games and play 60+ minutes in each, all to the good. I guess we'll see.

When lack of goals is an issue, I don't see why we'd want to reduce the number of our forwards on the pitch. Especially with their aggregate scoring records.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

KM prefers playing 3 players behind Hirst who have no affect on the game

Tho Arsenal have Saka, Gyokeres and Madueke ahead of them, Liverpool have Salah, Gakpo and Ekitike. Those forward lines are over-powered even by Prem standards. We don't have that luxury - especially at the moment, when our forward pack has not yet found any rhythm.

We were crying out for a three man midfield when we were getting over run in that area last season. He didn’t do it once.

I just can’t see him changing now. Especially as there is very little back up in that area if one of them was injured or suspended.

KM likes there attackers behind the ine striker.
