Hats off to him for standing up for what he believes is right, even though it's cost him the chance of an Olympic medal.

But, the schoolboy in me had to snigger at the comments made by the Olympic bloke when explaining their decision:

"We offered him the chance to expose his helmet, to show his helmet...."

Not only you. Some of us will never grow up

It feels a harsh decision, although I can see the logic in IOC’s comments about there being 120+ conflicts ongoing at any time, so it would open things up to potential abuse. Yet, if they were really apolitical, why did they ban Russia in the first place? So that inconsistency seems illogical.

No, I saw it just now too and giggled. Somehow it was all the funnier that the Olympic bloke came across to me as a bit of a wet wally.

Regardless of the rules, I think that if they’d let him display his helmet (oooh err misses) without making a fuss, it would have attracted far less publicity than binning him today and booting him out of the village - the latter decision later revoked.
