Football Nostalgia & Lost Grounds/Terraces of the United Kingdom

It has over half a million members and there is some interesting stuff shared on there.

However, half of the posts seem to be crap designed to drive engagement and rile people up, and they are all from somebody named Stefan Lenga, a group admin. They aren't even particularly relevant to the name/purpose of the group.

Doesn't even seem worth reporting these posts given who is posting them (I say "who", but I wouldn't be surprised if AI is involved). Rather sad that someone would spend time sharing rubbish to gain clicks and comments in that way.

It's hard to find a serious football page on social media these days.

I'm sure many of them start with good intentions but they often degenerate into dick waving about how many fans they take away, stupid cry laugh emojis, memes and pointless tier lists with 'controversial placings' to rage bait.

Goal nets and stanchions is a good nostalgic page however. Haven't seen much escalation on there.

I used to follow it but I unfollowed it some time ago.

Initially it was great - photos from the turn of the twentieth century showing various grounds as well as action shots. I remember looking at photos showing people queuing up for refreshments outside some ground in the 1920s and finding it fascinating- I admit that I can be very sad.

Unfortunately instead on concentrating on such images etc it became a page full of old pathetic football hooligans banging on about taking over a stand or what a great firm a rival club were. And then going on about modern football etc - it became a breeding place for idiots.

It’s all about clicks, comments and third-rate content designed to get meatheads angry.

Have you ever watched ‘Only Connect? If so, if Victoria Cohen-Mitchell ever asks what completes the sequence to ‘football, Twitter, Facebook’ the answer must be ‘idiot’.

I’ve logged in to many football page etc but as you say they just get degraded to dick wavers.

On the side, I have no real interest in train sets or building model railways but if you write ‘realistic model railway’ in Facebook you will be taken to a glorious page of people sharing their very realistic model railways. All very polite and friendly comments with people offering constructive advice/ criticism. Fantastic stuff.

Talking about lost grounds and nostalgia, highly recommend 'Beyond the Cemetery End' book.

As someone who's followed a fair amount of non league alongside Town over the years, it was a real trip down memory lane.

Something really profound and more than a little sad about a lost football ground. I pray we never have to say goodbye to our wonderful home.

I agree totally with your last paragraph. The space is there to develop our ground, should the owners wish to and that’s what they should do.

Sometimes there isn’t an alternative. For example Southampton. I went a fair few times to the Dell and unique as it was, there was no way it could be redeveloped because it was so hemmed in.

It has to be expected that if you do move to a new ground something is lost. Almost like the soul of the club. That’s certainly the case with West Ham. They were the Boleyn ground and visa versa. Identity.

What are they now? A bunch in a horrible kit, followed by ugly people in an inappropriate stadium they don’t like. It’s not ‘home’.
