Nothing is new in football, Maybe K McK has been watching old town video's ?

Cracking goal! Loved the first goal celebration! Did we just pip West Ham to survival that year? Next season an improvement, things starting to take shape, then 72/3 and it was off!

what a great March 1970 deadline Robertson (& Frank Clarke) were by Robson. We were struggling to score goals & in danger of relegation, they cost £50k apiece (a lot of money for Town in those days) & we won 5 of our last 7 games & still finished only 5pts clear of the drop.

I was a bit too young for away matches, but I was a regular at Portman Road by then. Not our best team but I just thought they were all great. Just after the start of the Robson years and so much more to come. Fantastic! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No, West Ham were relegated later in the decade. Robertson wasn’t with us long, but he was as you say, key to our survival. I noticed Woods, Mills, Ian Collard and ‘Diesel’ Morris in the side and Lambert as sub. They were to become part of Robson’s first really good team. Derek chopper Jefferson was not. I liked him. Blind as a bat, hard as nails, I think he literally booted anything that moved. He was essentially replaced by the great Allan Hunter. Now what a player he was…. The Boleyn Stadium was as I first remember visiting it in the mid 70s. Stands tight up against the pitch. It was very distinctive and an utter contrast to what they have now. They lost who they were when they moved to the Olympic Stadium. [Post edited 21 Mar 7:36]

As a primary school lad at the time I had not long grown out of my Liverpool supporting days and started to support Town. Collard and Morris, especially the latter we’re my role model (I remember having his number 4 on my sock ties x remember those?)). Spent hours praying kicking the ball against a wall with the side of my foot like he did it. I didn’t realise that Woods was in the team at that early stage. My memories of him are as a big part player who came into the team in about ‘73, but was ever reallly a regular until a fair bit later. Though I vividly remember his trickery in the games against dirty Leeds, and especially his superb curler for the winner in ‘75. Happy memories.

loved Chopper Jefferson and can remember he and Chelsea’s very own chopper..Harris..going at it in a snowy fixture at P R…although regarded as a dirty player it’s said that half his…ermm..mistimed tackles were down to his poor eyesight!
