I know they were staunch Tories but did they ever involve their politics with the club in any way?

They are before my time so I'm just interested to know (obviously a completely different time with no Internet let alone social media).

It was Princess Margaret not Thatcher, but the story may not be true. Mr.John stood as the Conservative candidate for several parliamentary elections but never won. But, as posted his politics never appeared to influence the club

In the 80s when the vast majority of tootballers in the top division would have been British, it was always assumed that most were Tories, not least because of cuts to the top rates of tax. But it wasn't an issue because they kept it to themselves.
