| Boro forum reporting Hackney and Whitaker did not train on 21:45 - Apr 18 with 1411 views | MattinLondon | In the main, mind games are complete rubbish. People say that Sir Alex was an expert in them but that’s only because he had a world class squad. We would have planned to play against Hackney or not. Nothing will really take the squad by surprise. [Post edited 18 Apr 21:48]

Exactly. The Weasel liked trying to put pressure on referees (until that was banned) but he was right when he said "it's players that win you games, not tactics".

Not to me, anyway. Having your best two players back to reignite your team and fans for the playoffs would be massive. I'd expect to see Whittaker play Weds, and Hackney on the bench or back for Watford game.

Today is a massive game for Boro who are on poor form. They will be as strong as they possibly can be. If those two are anywhere close to fit they will at least be on the bench with the possibility to come on. If Boro lose today, it is the play-offs for them (3 left and a 6 point gap to 2nd with Millwall and Southampton also ahead of them and us with a game in hand). If they draw, they still have a 4 point gap and are very much 4th favourites for 2nd. A win for them puts them right back in the mix and hurts us who are currently favourites for the spot.

You are calling Sir Alex Ferguson a Weasel. Wow. Fiercely competitive and could cross the line occasionally maybe (as I reckon happened/happens all the time in top level sport). Feels pretty disrespectful for everything he achieved but hey ho. But I've zero doubt his mind games were effective. You only have to look at the Keegan interview.

Agreed. It's just as big a game for us though. I've seen it labelled must win for us but in reality it's must not lose. A draw keeps our advantage and means we could still lose to Southampton but the pressure would be massive on the other games. We would have to win all 3 of the other games. A win would be huge for us.
