| Forty-five years ago today, we played our 66th and final match of the season... on 11:54 - May 20 | burnbudgiesburn | What an achievement but .... ugh, 45 years ago It's impossible to state to someone under the age of 30 how much that achievement hung over the club for a couple of decades afterwards. Heck, we still sing about it now! (rightly) It is beginning to feel more and more like something we are rightly proud of, but very much the past rather than a burden on current players. Time messes with my head quite a bit, an equivalent 45 years prior to that UEFA cup win was 1936, the year we turned professional. Puts it in perspective. It does feel like current success/team is judged on its own merits rather than against that team. | | | |

And it found us out in the end didn't it. Incredible achievement, and all the more so that we were left with a bit of 'if only'! Scary that it's that long ago - seems like just yesterday. I was talking to a mid 30's Liverpool supporting friend about Ipswich recently. He was of the impression that N...wich are a bigger club than Ipswich. I trotted off all our success compared to Norwich and included tales of the glory years when we went toe to toe 9and came out on top) with the biggest teams in Europe. He laughed and said 'Vic, that was 50 years ago'! I suddenly felt very old, and realised how slightly ridiculous us older supporters can sound when we trumpet our glory days. The 1980's were nearer the 2nd world war than to us today! Scary!

I still remember the 5, 15, 25 years ago memory matches in the 1980's programmes. They seemed like ancient memories as a kid! That's 50, 60 & 70 years ago now I've officially entered old fart territory, how did that happen?

Got the run around in the 2nd half somewhat. Even SBR said it was about the most he'd seen our defence panic! However the job was mostly done in the 1st leg. Happy days. Could they come back given a little more time? I bet the owners are ambitious enough.

I often think like that. 2006 literally feels like yesterday. Yet in 1981 - 1961 felt like another era / generation(s). I put it down to the fact that in reality the only genuine development has been the capability of your wretched phone!!
