Watching an early Town in 5 last night. From October 2021. Home v Fleetwood. Just a couple months before life changed. It’s league one so there are lots of empty seats and the ground generally looks a little tatty. Some of the pieces are in place. Morsy, chappers, Wes (with hair) on as a sub. Burgess, Walton. How their lives would change, too. We won late on with a goal from Celina. Seem to recall some of the Americans were over for this game. What a journey their investment accounts have been on.
Lives changed, all thanks to KM’s brilliance. How blessed we were.
Went the previous time we were home to Fleetwood in March 2020 a few days before Covid and their 300 fans were singing ‘you’re not Ipswich anymore’ quite rightly. Was probably the low point for me.

A really good illustration of how far KM took us on 13:22 - Jun 11 with 833 views
When you think that was less than five years ago, the change of fortunes for this club has been astonishing. Everything from tidying the football ground, pitch to the players, the division we find ourselves in. We have an awful lot to thank the owners and all who made this possible, especially McKenna who performed a miracle in 2023/24.
It wasn’t just the promotion, it was the way they went about it. To go toe to toe with three strong parachute teams like that was one heck of an achievement.
What he did this year was different but no less worthy. Yes, we’d brought in really good players for the level, but to weld them together to form a team that achieved promotion at its first attempt in the face of criticism, division, off field issues deserves enormous credit.
Whilst I’m saddened McKenna has moved on, he leaves the club light years stronger than in 2021. On reflection, it feels like the right time for him to move on and for this club to move on and hopefully upwards.
Interestingly, I think I’m right in saying that in the three and a half McKenna seasons outside the Premier League, we’ve only lost four times at home. Remarkable.
