They got rid of sub-editors just after they made entire photography teams redundant.

Makes sense. Guess the whole reason it was like that was a hangover from the days of trams and trolleybuses being able to manoeuvre around the depot entrance - a motor bus isn't so dependent on needing such things as wires or tracks, and besides which, they probably all go in and out at the West End Road end these days anyway.

There's still a few turning circles/wide junctions that the buses used back in the day (Ellenbrook Road, Whitton Maypole, Adair Road/Bramford Road junction)

Would it not be the case that as IBC own the land that Portman Road itself is built on, and they'd own the land of that the tarmac is on, it'd just be Town going to them and asking if they can use that pocket for something else?

I get the economic reality of ever declining print circulations but when all they do is cut to the bone and churn out crap, it’s a race to the bottom.

At the moment it looks as if the leased area doesn't include the bell-mouth at the junction:

It may well be that the club are negotiating or have negotiated with the council to add the parcel to their lease. Which would make sense with how Local Authorities and other similar organisations are selling off whatever scraps of land that they can, in order to raise funds.

They're not owned by SCC, merely adopted. It's a bit of a legal technicality, but it means that they own the right/obligation to maintain the roads, whilst the original landowner retains the freehold.
