Cam Humphreys heading back to Huddersfield ... 23:53 - Aug 31 with 1727 viewsBellevue_Blue

Not sure if loan or perm .... either way needs to play!

Would be a travesty to let this young man leave on a permanent. GON obviously rates him and he has been a victim of the rapid success of the club over the last 3 seasons.

Having said that, if Cam feels his career is best served away for ITFC, then good luck to the lad.

He only has a future at Ipswich if we are relegated, he’s not a premier league midfielder.

He has played in the championship 6 times in 2 seasons and is on 10k a week not sure a loan is a good move as his deal runs out next summer too so we want to be offloading him really, never going to be a PL player.

These loans are because we can't sell them, not because we are developing them.

One thing that irks me slightly is that with almost no senior experience, we've managed to ship Mendel and Boniface out to League 1 (and I think these really great loans for the both of them) but with Cam we really struggle to get him a loan in the Championship.

If you ask anyone who's watched him down in League 1, fans of other teams speak of him so incredibly highly. For example, my barber is an Orient fan and he says Cam was the best player he's seen play in years. GO'N and KMc both also speak of him so well. He was coined the Suffolk Messi and he was Supporter's Player of the Year at Wycombe down in League 1 when he was 19 years old.

I'm not saying I'd expect him to be the starting 8/10 for a team pushing for the playoffs, but I'd like to have thought we could get him to a lower half Championship team at least.

Not trying to criticise anyone from the club here, I just think it's strange and a bit of a shame for Cam.

I do think Cam is overrated by many on here, I see him as a mid-tier Champ/top end L1 midfielder.

Personally don't think he will ever be a regular for Town, think a permanent sale + decent sell-on would be best for all parties.

Decent player but has always been a step behind first-team level for us. He's 22 now, not a kid anymore, needs to go somewhere and settle

He signed this contract when he was just 19 and we were in League 1 ... with respect he is unlikley to be on anything close to 10k a week.

18 months later, Kieran Maguire was on the record saying the average Championship wage was 12-14k.

His extension was signed in June 2026 for 1 year so 10k p/w for player on the books with a PL side seems possible, maybe.

I’m liking his new Rudi Voller look. Very retro

Strange one isn't it? I assume we have a recall in January, or we're going to offer him a new contract again.

He's never a PL midfielder but is very talented and still a decent age. We managed to get a decent fee for Baggott eventually so definitely an asset we won't want to lose for nothing.

That was an option on the intial three year contract. It is the 'same' contract extended by a year at the behest of the club.

It is not a new contract negotiated by Cam or anyone else on his side. The details of the option would have been negotiated in 2023.
