Ipswich station 23:50 - Sep 4 with 1747 viewsMeadowlark

Anyone know what was happening? Our train home was 45 miinutes late departing to due to "platform congestion!" WTF?
Then they said it was signal failure.
Sounded like they were making it up as they went along.
Eventually we departed from one platform then came back in on another one before finally getting away.
Won't be home before 1.00 am and I live in Suffolk!!!

I can see why they closed the doors to the station.

Platforms were rammed.

Don't know what caused the delay though.

You were lucky there was a train: none out to Newmarket after the game, and they shut the Norwich Road junction onto the A14.
Utter contempt for football fans as usual.

Properly rubbish. Sorry Tis taking you so long to get home. I live in SE London and I’m a good hour away from getting through my front door. All a bit of a joke. Surely they knew there was a game on?!

Nightmare drive back to Brighton, just in door. Closures on the A12, M25 and the A23 plus down to one lane over the QE2 bridge. To rub salt in the wound I’m pretty sure I was flashed by one of those motorway gantry speed cameras.

I’m a pretty quick walker and swiftly got to the station and went right to the far end waiting for the 10:15 to Liverpool Street. Which didn’t leave til 10:39.

It was signal failure just outside of Ipswich but the issue was that they had two trains out of service come into the station while that was going on that were heading towards Liverpool Street but just sat there. Neither moving and only yards apart. Then the station got rammo and so the woman who worked for greater Anglia stood by me told them on her walkie talkie to close the station off. Which was absolutely the correct call as it was getting hectic.

I moan about the trains in this country more than anyone (I commute from Waterloo to Surrey daily and South Western Railway are the worst line for train issues anywhere in the country) but tonight’s situation was handled well all things considered. Signal failure can’t really be helped - especially as it seemingly happened about 10 o clock seeing as one train just on full time had departed for those who left early. Then the station had two trains stuck in it before getting flooded by people. They had no choice but to close off the station in the interests of safety.

It could’ve been far worse I think - and I say that as someone who got in well past midnight

Seemed a bit much- I was stuck on the bottom of the stairs go find bridge waiting for the next train- I don’t recall them ever doing that before and I’ve seen some pretty busy platforms.

Don’t think we will be getting the train for evening games ago- probably added a good 30-45 mins to our travel time.
