Keane: You Won't Play for Me Again Monday, 24th Aug 2009 12:59
Boss Roy Keane says that some of the players who featured for the Blues at the weekend are unlikely to play for the club again. The Town manager says he hopes to have a busy week on the transfer front with several players coming in, but departures are also very much on the cards.
Keane said: “There are certainly one or two players from the weekend who are unlikely to play for me again. And I’ve told them that.
“I’m still learning about these players, but eventually you have to make a decision about one or two and say ‘I don’t like what I’m seeing’. That’s not just on Saturday’s game, but the end of last season and pre-season as well.
“You can’t keep waiting on people, you have to say that enough’s enough. I’m not saying they’re not good players, they’re just not doing the business for me.”
Keane says his task at Town at present is not so much about getting promoted as bagging the first league win of the season: "It's my biggest challenge because it's the next one. In your career, as in life, you face different hurdles and we have a big one ahead.
"The next challenge for us is not getting promoted, it's about getting some wins under our belts and if we do that, the rest will take care of itself.
"I was thinking about what we face over the weekend and I'm looking forward to it definitely. I'm relishing the challenge ahead.
"The problem has been for us that we have had to deal with high expectations since we have been back and I've played a part in that. I'm an ambitious person and have talked about taking the team to promotion.
"We have to deal with those expectations, but as bad as results have been, I think we are two or three players away from being a decent side and being back in the mix."
Meanwhile, we understand that Alex Bruce will again be captain when the Blues take on Peterborough in the Carling Cup tomorrow and may continue in the role for the rest of the season.

As they didn't play does that mean Healy and Delaney are safe? Well that's OK then!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry but RK has had all of the close season to sort this outto form some kind of blueprint to what he wants. We have taken a large step backwards. OK, we have only played 4 games but, as he said, he is aiming for promotion this season. I hope he is a better judge of talent than he is indicating himself to be at the moment. Looking to throw them all out by the end of August does not bode well for the rest of the season. I may be wrong but it seems to smack of desperation already!

good news. I'd get rid of Healy and delaney for starters. What an absolute waste of money!!

Pim and Trotter- both got a lot to learn but with the right people alongside them could be great players. An inspiring, motivating midfielder and same at CB, please Mr. Keane, sir!

Garvan is one of two midfielders we have left who get the ball down and try to pass, which I assume is still what we all want to see! Quinn is the other (and he ain't great at it!). Suggest he sells Trotter plus Priskin, Delaney & Healy!!!! Pim is not good enough right now, but may come good. RK's biggest saving grace may be that Pablo turned down a move to Swansea! He may just be able to link the midfield to the forwards, so we can keep the ball. Cos playing without the ball at the moment in our present "kick & rush" style, we are getting blown away!! Saw comment from the Watford chairman, congratulating ITFC on the way we conducted the Priskin transfer! But reading between the lines........"I can't believe they were that stupid to pay 4 times over the odds!"

Pim... why do you think he's good from what I have seen he's NOT. After what I have seen about 80% can go

Might sound stupid but Sol Campbell's a free agent.....anyone think he could do a job for us?

Great shout Roy, I'm 101% behind you. For too long now Ipswich has been riddled with players playing sloppy football nowhere near to their potential but still being given chance after chance. Its got to stop, show them the door and kick them on the way out. I hope Garvan and Trotter are the ones Keane's referring to. The former has been useless for 2 seasons now and is only a fans favourite on reputation because he once had potential. As for Trotter, he's quite clearly way out of his depth. Its time to be realistic rid the club of this mediocrity. Also GREAT shout if Bruce is captain. He's a classic Ipswich player - you can tell he loves the club and his heart is always in it. Would also lead from the front with some crunching tackles. The captain needs to lead by example and set the benchmark for the team - and seeing as McAuley is more like a teddy-bear than a scrapper its little wonder have have no killer instinct on the pitch.

Sol Campbell probably has 'history' with Keane going back to the seasonal ManYoo v Arse punchup so I reckon that's unlikely.

"Garvan is one of two midfielders we have left who get the ball down and try to pass" What game are you watching. Just becasue he doesn't ever tackle, doesn't make him "creative" it just makes he even an even worse player. As Duffers says, we have been waiting for nearly 3 years. Good riddance

RK is worse than Jim. You can't slaughter the side after just 4 games. He's bought a load of journeymen from Ireland, sold a prized asset & tried to flog Pablo. Get Walters in position, settle on a back 4. Settle on a midfield & start shaping the team. Priskin, Pablo, Stead, Wickham are ok to rotate up front. He's a poor manager who can't stop talking to the press & tinkering with the side. PS Buy Sol.

what worries me almost as much as the results, is the frightening lack of man management skills being shown by RK at the moment why does he need to tell the public that some players aren't good enough - that must diminish their value if we want to sell them, and means we might find it harder to get people in also - can you imagine what its like in that dressing room at the moment - real fear - its all fine to say that if you don't perform then you are out, but only some players (and they tend to be class players) really respond to that - many just become inhinited and can't play i really fear that RK has taken this team a step backwards and that there is little harmony, or enjoyment, in that team at the moment, which has to affect how they play.....

I believe Garvan will be sold. I seem to remember he was about the only player who didn't play well in the final two games of last season and he had a little grumble about his lack of time on the pitch in the local paper at the weekend. I somehow suspect McAuley will not be with us too much longer. Just a real shame he hasn't started like he finnished last season. Decisive action is what we need now. The next few days and weeks will definately show that Keane (and the players are made of).

If he carries on like this, he will be conducting business from his sofa in Cheshire, with his dogs, curtains drawn, watching Deal or no Deal communicating only by text. It's Sunderland all over again.

People on here suggesting that Priskin is going are crazy! He has not had enough time to settle to be properly judge yet. I was lucky or unlucky enough to watch the game live here in the States this past weekend. My observations on who those players could be going, based on what I saw as as follows: Garvan - Looked totally uninterested and did not seem to try. He reminded me of Supple in terms on no love for the game anymore. Showed no pride in wearing the Town shirt. Very poor. Trotter - Bad. If he is supposed to be our sitting, hard man midfielder, then we are in BIG trouble. He did not track back fast enough and his tackles were as hard as wet toilet paper. Pim - I thought that he did okay and had some mistakes. Would not let him go on this one performance. Quinn - I thought that he showed desire, passion and tried a lot harder than most. I would keep him purely because of this. He also gets stuck in for a little lad. Stead - Again, I did not think that he was that bad at the weekend. He holds the ball up well. My one complaint is that he sometimes holds onto the ball too long. Tommy Smith - Awful. Has no pace. I know that he was played out of position, but he was horrible. Distribution was poor and positioning even worse; terrible decision to make the tackle for the penalty.

Garvan should definately stay!!! He was the only player who is prepared to take the game by the scruff of the neck against Palace. i think the whole lot of them were to blame. Anyway, we did twice as well on sat as i thought we would. i had a 4-0 loss on the cards.

We need a grown up, old school manager who knows what a plum job this is, who knows what a lovely club Ipswich is & what our traditions are. RK hasn't a clue about running a club like ours. Just like Jim, thinks he knows it all & they over manage. Read Winesse's comments on Joe Royal for example. Our club is for gents like Alf, Bobby, Lyal, Royal. Not overpaid mouthy meglomaniacs. I think that Keano is shaping to be an old-fashioned football manager in the mould of Brian Clough who told it like it was, and the players shut up and listened when he was talking! Too many modern managers are hamstrung by players with too much power because their agents pull all the strings. Players often forget the manager is their BOSS and as such they should listen, learn, and act from his direction. Keano has inherited a squad that quite honestly he owes nothing to, as most of them were Jim's players - all the players need to prove themselves to him, that they can be trusted to take the club to the next level. He knows where he wants to take the club, and those players that he feels he wants with him will have all the support from him they need. Those that are too lazy or too arrogant to play for him will be got rid of in the coming cull, and Keano is sharpening his axe.... I think this is what was needed - too many players have been in the comfort zone for too long, and if a little blood-letting is required, then so be it. COME ON YA BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZ!

If you're reading Roy, call 'Owen the moan' into your office, give him a cup of tea & a little hug. Hear him out, cheer him up, put a smile on his face & you've cracked it! He's a good player. The kind we like to watch when he's passing it around the park.

This is quite exiting , but i fear keane might do what hes done so far , get rid of players and bring in players that are worse then the ones we sold. I fear for Garvan tbh , i reckon keane will sell him but im a fan of him. if we re to sell him then we need to get money for him at lest 2 mill for him AT LEAST . I think We might be in with a shout for Giovani, as he doesnt look like hes going no where so , Loan him for season or half. Danny Shittu ? Sol Campbell ?

Quality Just what we needed, a shake up and a proper one!!! We have to be honest, our team has been full of nearly men for too long now, the likes of Macauley, Garvan, Trotter, Stead are just not doing it for the shirt, they look weak against most mediocre Championship teams. We can not continue to be out played by teams, the rot has to stop and these bottlers need to ship out! Bruce for skipper for the rest of the season, someone with a bit of fire in his belly unlike Macauley. Keano is the man, we need to get right behind him and let the man do the job he is paid to do. Bye bye to the nearly men, time for League one if your lucky

Who knows who it will be? Trotter? Awful Pim? Not good enough BUT possibly one for the future Garvan? More than likely. Out of favour and subbed Stead? Ditto. Why one earth Jim paid £1.25M after one game is beyond me! D. Wright? Failed to impress. Smith? Clearly not good enough. Walters? Long shot, but poor start to the season. Quinn? Possibly. Not good enough for a promotion side.

Well the good thing is that Roy is addressing the situation and we have to have faith in that. Having said that I hope that this will be a balanced approach. Management by fear can sometimes be effective as needed but not usually when adopted as the predominant style. Similarly, while Roy has given some of our youngsters a run, experience has usually shown that a blend of experience and youth is the ideal approach. I do agree that we need to add some better players especially at centre back and midfield to plug the leaks and help us to take control of games.
