Tonight's Teams: Peterborough v Town
Tonight's Teams: Peterborough v Town
Tuesday, 25th Aug 2009 19:46

The line-ups for tonight's match against Peterborough have been announced and may add substance to the rumours that key players may have played their last game for Town.

Roy Keane has previously said: “There are certainly one or two players from the weekend who are unlikely to play for me again. And I’ve told them that.

“I’m still learning about these players, but eventually you have to make a decision about one or two and say ‘I don’t like what I’m seeing’. That’s not just on Saturday’s game, but the end of last season and pre-season as well.

So, missing tonight are Jon Stead and Owen Garvan from the 18 named for the Carling Cup match. Is this an indication that they won't play again for the club?

The Town side in full: R Wright, D Wright, Bruce, Balkestein, Delaney, Martin, Colback, Healy, Quinn, Couñago and Priskin. On the substitutes' bench is Lee-Barrett, McAuley, Smith, Trotter, Walters, Upson and Wickham.

Let's face it, he's unlikely to ditch Delaney or Healy after signing them so recently, even if they have been gash.

Garvan is not as good as some make out. Lacks pace and has not kicked on in the last season or so. We can get someone better than him. Why the fuss.

I understand Keanos beef with certain players, but i feel Stead is getting a little hard done by. Obviously we dont know what goes on behind the scenes but he has been as good as any other striker.

Good to see Pablo starting tonight.

Why don't you ALL give Keano a bloody chance, we have all spent money on season tickets but for god sake give it a bloody rest...
Keano is the man for the job.

Trust me!!

The reason we are not scoring goals is cos we are not creating chances, so what shall we do? I know, get rid of the one creative mid-fielder we have in the team - Owen Garvan. Sure he has not played as well as we know he can but apart from Wrighty this season, who has? At least against Palace last Tuesday when he came on he wanted the ball and tried to be constructive. Quinn is not the best but at least he is a tryer, Stead is probably the best striker we have at the club at the moment.
I am not sure Roy Keanes management style is right for this club. Publicly stating that 3 players would not play for him again is an embarrassment to them and to the club and Keane should be ashamed of himself.

So buy two players then ditch them and sell two, including last seasons top scorer as an exscuse and cover up for your mistakes.

Interesting. So Quinn starts. According to EADT he was supposed to be on his way.

Glad Priskin has scored. Shame about the penalty miss though

suffolktractor makes some good points re; Keane's management style . You should not publically embarrass players like Phil Brown did at Hull last season - look what happened to them afterwards. They lost almost every match . If it is true that Garvan and Stead are the two players he wants rid of then it just confirms my opinion of the clueless manic Irishman at the helm !

Cheers Owen, you'll be missed by all SANE town fans!! Stead, i agree is bein pooed on a bit, but lets see who he brings in. Pacey striker wit eye for goal?! Better 2 have some one like that who cn work off some1 like counago rather than some1 who we'll just end up lumping the ball up 2.

In Keane we trust!!!(Pretty much)

To clarify: I am a Garvan fan - BUT do we know what's going on behind the scene's? Is Garvan lazy? Not bothered? think he is better than anyone else?

Stead - simply not good enough. Doesn't score enough goals. Useless in fact.

Sometimes I am very embarrassed to say I'm a blue. I seriously do not understand why a lot of you bother coming on here. Just let Keano get on with it. Slagging him off and the players is depressing. If RK feels he needs to make it public then that's his choice but some of comments on here are pathetic. It's a shame we can't rate and block some of the negative comments. To those Victor Meldrew/David EADT Davies clones....Cheer up or SHUT UP....please

Garvan doesn't seem mentally right to me - remember how he was homesick a couple of seasons ago?
Not sure why Stead continually gets picked on - always seems to give 100% to me.

I think Garvan just hasn't pushed on the way we all thought he would, same old story I guess with many players from our youth, good on their day but overall just not up to championship standard. I.e. Richards, Bowditch, Clarke and now Garvan. As for Stead he is definitelt a hard worker, but again I just don't feel he is good enough. Don't think we'll miss either of them, but let's hope that Roy has some good quality replacements lined up.

Positivity, I really wish that someone would do just what you are asking for, but tragically I suspect that with RK treatment of the currrent crop of players and yet another defeat to a newly promoted team, the likely hood of getting anything positive is rare.
