Bruce Confirms Duo Given Permission to Talk to Town But Nyron Says No
Bruce Confirms Duo Given Permission to Talk to Town But Nyron Says No
Thursday, 27th Aug 2009 11:12

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that midfielder Carlos Edwards will join team-mate Grant Leadbitter for talks with Town. However, Bruce says he is unaware of any current Town interest in Nyron Nosworthy and Daryl Murphy.

Bruce says he has consented to the duo talking to Blues boss Roy Keane: "We have given both players permission to go and speak with Roy. We'll see what develops after that."

Reports in the North-East say that while a fee has been agreed for Leadbitter, talks between the clubs are still ongoing regarding Edwards but with a deal close.

Yesterday, Edwards and Leadbitter were reported to be two players in a quadruple £7 million bid which would also have seen Daryl Murphy and Nyron Nosworthy join Town, but Bruce dismissed any ongoing discussions regarding the latter pair.

In any case, Nosworthy’s agent Uben Gray appears to have ruled out his player moving to Suffolk, saying that the defender won’t be dropping down a division: "No disrespect to Ipswich, or any Championship side, but at this point in his career, that is not a move Nyron will look for.”

Gotta love the morons on the news comments page. Wouldn't know a footballer if he kicked them up the ar$e. Thank ully RK does and he picks the team. As for anyone not wanting to come to Town, we are not giants we are a small club and that is a big part of our problem and why people don't want to come regardless of who is manager. We can't offer premier wages so why would they take a pay cut? Players first loyality today is to their wallets, and the unless your willing to do somethnig stupid like pay 60k a week for an older defender for five years we are going to be restricted to who we can bring in.

Thats a touch over the top lomas.

Pim played well at coventry , was excellent against leicester , not too bad against palace and no worse than the others at WBA. For a young player just getting starts this season he is doing ok. If youi want to single out someone look at donkey D who is 6 years or more older and looks alot worse and cost more.

ill be glad when window shuts ,its getting bloody boring , rumour upon rumour, talk about deal no deal; We have started the season at sixes and sevens ,one minute we need strikers, then we dont we need midfielders then we dont we need defenders ,then a keeper, i can see it being hasty signing in panic as door slams .I was not a J M fan but im begining to wish he was still here and we had the players we had last year .It would at least have been a settled team.not the headless chicken its become now .

i see some decent signings coming thru, leadbitter and edwards should be good signings...... we need another solid CB and a predatory striker!.... but not murphy pls, as i feel he's over-rated.....

keano pls do some more magic and bring in some really good players for us to savour! and to atone for the $$$ spent on healy and delaney who have been flops so far!......

Even on good days, when we're about to sign two quality players - IF Keane can persuade them to drop down a division and accept lower wages AND play for a bottom-two club - even then, people are still moaning and having a right go. It's like being back in the playground again, especially with people thowing around abuse like calling someone a 'pr**k'. Grow up, get a life, and start to see good news as just that...

This would be good news. I hope it happens. Possibly Walters to move on though?

Shame about Nyron though. We need a central defender, but can fully understand why he wants to stay in the Premiership. Don't blame him - just hope Roy has another target in mind.

i don't really get what Pim did so wrong, he wins headers, makes tackles, he has a lot to learn but does that merrit us just selling him on? of course he won't be superman i think you could count on your fingers the amount of full 90min games he had before this season, i think for a young and inexperianced player, he tackles heads and passes better than some of our more experianced such as McAuley tbh, the cross field ball to Walters is clearly a high ball to Walters, it does what he means it to do and he's clearly been told to do that, if you noticed he didn't in the west brom game, so i don't see why that has been critisised so much either, but i think a centre back such as nosworthy is still needed to secure things more at the back

Also, someone asked where murphy, leadbitter and edwards would fit into the team because we have walters, martin and priskin and counago played well on tuesday.. in the squad with the others, heaven forbid we may even buy someone better than walters and pablo!!

A couple of people have asked what the issue was with Jordan Rhodes (which led to his sale) - could it be his Dad was sacked by Jim . . .

Why does everyone seem to think we need to buy a new team every few weeks? We have loads of talented players in our squad, it is up to the management and coaches (Keane and his merry men) to coach them, mould them in to a team and get them playing in the right way.
It worries me when after a couple of losses, Keane comes out and says he needs more players, how much longer will this happen? Surely he can make a half decent team out of what he has already got. Or is it the fact that him and his coaches are not doing their jobs?
I hope we find out before it is too late.

Danny Shittu would be a good CB rather than Nosworthy.
Leadbitter and Edwards would be good too.

Expectations have been very high since Roy Keane joined.

Now a number of people right from the start have felt this is a bad appointment for Town. I respect peoples opinion and their right to fairly articulate their arguments. I agree that some of his signings appear no better than the lads we have let go.

I can not however, understand the vitriol that is being aimed at certain players from supporters like Owen Garvan and now Pim Balkestein. I feel quite ashamed that Ipswich supporters appear to need to find a scapegoat. If somebody comes in with a big price tag and reputation then criticism goes with the territory. Aiming this type of criticism at younger players though is immature. I remember watching Darren Bent in the early days, at times I though he would go on to be a real star, then occassionally a week later I would witness a performance that made me think he was lightweight and would never cut it in the big league. I have watched Ipswich for over 40 years, and even in their very early days the likes of young Beattie & Wark often left me with butterflies witnessing some of their raw play. The point is that young players are often inconsistent and need the support of the fans.

Back to Roy Keane.... if he was to walk soon then his reputation would be seriously damaged. If he wants to make it back as a manager then he has to achieve something with Ipswich unless another club comes and tries to attract him away. Again I think he needs the Ipswich job to prove that his achievements with Sunderland were no fluke.

I feel more comfortable with these potential signings, these guys have proven to him that they can do the sort of job he wants done.

He gave players here the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to prove they could all share the responsibility of driving the club forward. A number have failed. Not necessarily their fault. "They are not bad players and not bad characters" and paraphrasing "they just havent done it". He is a man of actions, like it or not he knows what he wants and there will be more casualties. I like many think Owen Garvan is a real talent but clearly his not a Roy Keane type of player. We have to accept that if Owen's future does lie elsewhere then we should wish him the very best or if another opportunity arises at Ipswich then try and be fair to the lad.

Yes a bad start to the season, JM had three years, RK has two but a bigger ambition. Some are just waiting for him to fail. We have barely left the introduction for the first chapter. In my mind I might not agree with some of the things he does however, I am fully behind him.

Rhodes was sold because we couldn't develop both Rhodes and Wickham in the squad. Only one of them could be given the chance and Keane chose Wickham. Whether we could of kept Rhodes and loaned him out for another season is another question!

we sold rhodes because huddersfield bid 800,000 pound rising to 1 mil and how can you turn that down for a unproven teenager
