Palace Again Linked With Stead
Palace Again Linked With Stead
Saturday, 29th Aug 2009 09:08

Crystal Palace have again been linked with a move for Town striker Jon Stead. Earlier in the week, the Eagles were said to want the former Sheffield United and Sunderland man on loan, but now that the Football League have lifted their transfer embargo, a permanent deal could be on the cards.

According to one of this morning’s tabloids, Palace boss Neil Warnock, who signed Stead from Sunderland when he was Sheffield United manager, is reportedly ready to offer £300,000 for the 26-year-old.

Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O’Driscoll has also revealed his interest in Stead, although says wages may be a problem for his club.

On Friday, Town boss Roy Keane confirmed that the Blues had turned down a bid for a player, which may well have been an offer from either the Eagles or Rovers for Stead.

Elsewhere, one paper claims Connor Wickham is a target of Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, although the report appears purely speculative. Wickham, 16, is unable to sign a professional contract with the Blues until his 17th birthday in March, but the club have always been confident that the youngster is not interested in moving on to a Premier League side at this early stage of his career.

Meanwhile, Town have put in a planning application for a vinyl sign bearing Sir Bobby Robson’s name to be placed across the back of the North Stand along with an image of the legendary Blues boss. The stand is due to be renamed in Robson’s honour at the Newcastle game on September 26th.

Two Marcus Evans Group logos on each end of the stand are also included in the application.

300 K isnt alot ! i think we paid 600k plus up to 600k in add ons=1.2 mio

Surely with his scoring record for us after being just a reserve at Blades would mean his value held ?

We pay 1.7 mill for priskin , try to sell counago for 500k and stead for 300k ? something seems out of line !

i dont really see the point of selling him for such a small fee, it isnt like we need the money. he is a useful squad member although not the quality that we desire as fans, the competition for places among the forwards is vital if we are to push for the play offs. keane wants rid of him and dosent seem to keen on pablo either, but priskin is not enough fire power to get us where we want to be. maybe he has a forward lined up?

haynes- out
rhodes- out
stead- not wanted
pablo- willing to sell

priskin- in

PRISKIN IS NOT ENOUGH!

As fees are always undisclosed these days, we are left to speculate. Supposing Stead only cost £600K, then I think he has done well at Ipswich for a striker of that value. He was an improvement on Alan Lee who we sold for about the same amount. Letting Stead go for £300k would indicate he has been a big failure, but he was top scorer last season and this season has had no service so it would seem mad to sell him for that.

Another concern I have is that players are not being made to feel valued. I believe that some players, perhaps Counago and Garvan included, need to feel wanted to help their confidence. Saying everyone has their price, while being true, doesn't do a lot to bump up the players' confidence.

We do seem to be in a right mess at the moment..really thought Keane would sort us out but things seem even more dis-jointed than ever...to let Stead go would be beyond stupid for such little money...be amazed if we win today.

Sounds like the stand renaming is going to be great, can't wait to see what it looks like.

I agree with the fact that we should not have sold Rhodes and Haynes, however;

Stead - has never delivered and so am not sure why you (and many others) are betrohting loyalty?
Pablo - the majority of fans realise his potential.... and I think that Keane also does... at last

Priskin - I think that you are judging waaaaaaaaaaay too in advance. He has not been given a fair crack of the whip yet. I believe he could be the next "Paul Mariner"

I appreciate that the results so far is not what any of us want but, lets get behind OUR team!

After today's performance I would drive him there myself and tell them to keep their 300K
