Keane Refuses to Be Drawn on Shittu
Keane Refuses to Be Drawn on Shittu
Monday, 14th Sep 2009 11:03

Town boss Roy Keane has refused to comment on reports linking Bolton centre-half Danny Shittu with a move to Portman Road. Keane is looking to add two loanees to his squad, but won’t have secured the signings before Tuesday’s home game against his former club Nottingham Forest.

At this morning’s press conference ahead of the Forest game, Keane wouldn’t be drawn on the widespread national newspaper reports claiming that Shittu is amongst his loan targets: “I certainly won’t comment on players at other football clubs, there’s no chance of me doing that.

“There’s lots of stuff in newspapers every single day and if I was to comment on every player we’ve been linked with over the summer, I’d be chatting to you far too often.”

The Blues boss, showing little sign of feeling any pressure despite Town’s lowly league position, says that the new additions could be at Portman Road by the weekend: “I’m still very hopeful. There’ll be a few more calls over the next few days and fingers crossed we can get one or two more into the club.

“There’s still one or two areas I think we’re short in, people can second guess where that might be, but the staff and myself are working extremely hard to try and bring one or two players into the club.

“But if it doesn’t happen we’ll persevere with the decent lads I’ve got here who are giving everything they’ve got for the football club, but are just coming up a bit short at the moment.”

I think that "little bit short" is confidence. We are creating opportunuities and confidence helps turning those into goals. A tightening up in defence and cutting out basic errors also needs to be addressed. I think one win could kickstart our season and a nice push upwards. Come on Town.

We'll get him! Shittu will be an Ipswich player in time for Newcastle on the 26th. If he's not, I'll be a monkeys uncle! - and you all can call me than on here too!

Be positive! We'll get him!

I say, put your boots on Keano cos you're playing midfield!

Who's with me? Keano for the return.

Shittu would be a good signing, strong and experienced, and read somewhere today that Michael Ball is on a free, might solve our left back problem...although not sure if he's still a bit injury prone??

Also saw that Sheffield United are looking at Marlon King on a loan, could well be worth a punt as he's a decent goalscorer at this level.

I second that 'footfetish'....

Keano would boss that Midfield - He'll get McAuley playing better and the results will be in. He'll also get us to play a bit more harder - Take a few knee caps and achillies in his travels, but we will win.

What do you say Keano?? You in??

Luke Young at Villa for left back ,solid and good at going forward ,could then try Delaney at centre back as he is poor at left back !

Never thought I would look forward to Thatcher coming back. Him, Wright, Bruce & Shittu would be OK. The cluless Mac is running out of chances.

I've been reading recent postings and I've been really shocked. I cannot believe that certain 'people' are hoping for Roy Keane to walk out and George Burley to be sacked so we can get him back!
1. Keane hasn't even been in charge foe ten games yet and you're writing him off!
2. EVERY new manager must be allowed time as a transitional period. Sometimes it may take longer than people expect.
3. I bet the same people who want this are the same that called for Burley's head when he was in charge (and Magilton's)
4. I'm told that every football club has morons like these - if the team doesn't win for three games, they call for the manager's head, boo every pass that goes astray, gets on players' backs, boos the team off etc. so we're not alone with this (if it's any consolation)

Please people - get real, be patient. Try actually getting behind the team, the players and the manager. Try to be positive. Make some noise at the games (without criticising, booing or jeering your own lads!)
