Keane Sets Sights on Another Target Monday, 19th Oct 2009 10:26
Boss Roy Keane has set his sights on another loan target after the player he chasing at the end of last week decided to remain with his Premier League club. Keane is looking for two additions to his squad, but is currently only making progress on one front.
Keane said: “As I said last week, there was a long way to go and the player we wanted to get permission to speak to didn’t want to come, he wanted to stay and fight for his place at a Premiership club.
“I can understand that 100% and that’s the way it is. We’ll keep pushing hard to try and strengthen the squad. We’re looking at someone else, but there’s a long way to go with that deal as well.
"Some of these players have spent a long time trying to get into the Premiership or have been playing in the Premiership for a long time and are very reluctant to drop into the Championship, and that’s something I understand 100%.
“We’ll continue to make progress, I’ve been in contact with the managers and they've said they’d let me know how things are going. We have to respect the managers and the players. We can’t drag players down here if they don’t want to come.”
Keane admits making headway on the loan front has proved difficult: “The progress we were hoping to make was in one of the positions and we’ve hit a few brick walls in terms of the other position.
“If I told you the position, it’s clearly a tough position to improve and there’s not that many players out there, believe it or not. Premiership clubs don’t want to do anything and teams in the Championship don’t want to do deals with other Championship clubs.
“We’ve made no progress on one of the positions, but we’re hoping on the other that we might get feedback next week, but it’s a big if.”
Keane says he knows nothing of the reported Derby County interest in Jon Stead but wouldn’t be shocked if an offer came in for the out-of-favour striker: “There’s nothing that I’m aware of, but when you leave out a good player like Steady it wouldn't surprise me if there were enquiries for him.
“I think there might have been one or two calls to the chief executive. If clubs want to make an offer, they’ll make an offer.
“There are no impending loans out, but that could change in the next hour, that’s the business we’re in. I might see you tomorrow and we’ll have had a few enquiries today. That’s the way it goes.”
Town have no new injury concerns ahead of Tuesday's home game against Watford with Carlos Edwards coming back into Keane's thinking after being rested at the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Aldeburgh Kevin Webster says he is unaware of complaints being made regarding the noise being made by Roy Keane’s dogs, as was reported over the weekend: “I have not heard of any problems whatsoever.
”The town council has not received any complaints so the only thing I can think is a complaint may have been made to Suffolk Coastal. I think it has been blown out of proportion, we are not aware of any problems.”
Elsewhere, former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a January move from Spurs to Portsmouth.

Dobbie, I was sitting in the Upper North, and when his throw came in I was shocked. Even the steward was shocked... Jesus! Big Connor needs to cut down on the Weetabix! Dobbie, don you think that Connor has got the makings of a good player. his touch, his ability, his throw! .. I just don't know why we didn't bring him on earlier in the Game!

Agree Nick8 - Not that I want to start slating some of our players as thats the last thing they need right now, but Trotter has to give way. Think Garvan is definately worth a go alongside Leadbitter - has the passing range and will have a point to prove after turning down a loan switch. Defo think Connor should be given more game-time, what a player he is going to be - just hope we can hang on to him!

Keane is settling down and realising the team we had that finished just outside the playoffs two years in a row maybe wasnt that bad with a few additions ,get Garvan back in especially for home games alongside the good signing of Leadbitter and give Priskin/Stead and Counago a run upfront and the results will come ,to much change and not enough continuity has cost us. Wright Rosenoir,McCauley,Bruce,Wright Edwards,Leadbitter,Garvan,Walters Stead/Priskin Counago This is a good side for this league with Wickham and Peters coming on and Norris and Civelli to come back ,maybe it is not all doom and gloom and we weren t as bad a side as everyone tried to make out when the saviour Keane arrived !!

We weren't appalling - that's just nonsense. But for the incorrect off-side decision, we could have won the game - and Swansea played well (some lovely one-touch stuff), especially in midfield.

Somersham Blue how many game you been to this season?? if we werent appaling why do you think 20,000 people booed AGAIN. its not good enough and something needs to be done about it, otherwise we're in danger of doing a leeds, we're in a relegation dogfight simple as that due to us being so poor
naa added 13:15 - Oct 19
No we weren't appalling. But we weren't very good either. The team looks dis-jointed and there's no obvious structure to the play. Maybe a win will change all that, but how long do we have to say that for before we have to have a re-think? The rest is not directed at you SomershamBlue, but is a general rant. As for Keane's signings. I'd be happy if he didn't get anyone else in. Sure, centre-back could do with strengthening, but Keane doesn't trust his own signings (only two outfield players that he signed played on Saturday) and seems to be reverting to Magilton's team, so what's to say another signing will actually improve anything? If Magilton had spent £3M on two players that he didn't bother playing (Martin and Priskin) people would be up in arms. Counago was probably our best player on Saturday, yet he was one Keane was happy to get rid of. His eye for a player appears to be very poor. And I keep reading about hos players need to turn up on time and train hard. Is that really hte only guide he uses when selecting his team? Surely someone talented is more useful in a team than someone who runs around? In fact, it's usually the poorer players who tend to try hard in training, to make up for their deficiencies. People are now calling for Garvan to replace Trotter, and I agree completely. How on earth anyone can say Trotter adds more to the team than Garvan, I do not know. OK Garvan has his flaws but he is miles ahead of Trotter on every level. So could everyone please stop it with the 'In Keane We Trust'? For f**k's sake give it a rest and be a bit more objective about things please. What on earth has he ever done to make you think he's worthy of our trust? And to pre-empt: this is not me not showing support for our club. It's me not showing support for our manager (who hasn't done one thing that I can think of that I thought was a good idea). I'll still support the team at the match (and I'll never, ever boo anyone) but I can't write anything positive about Roy at the moment I'm afraid.

Can i just remind the in Keane we trust brigade that, several games back [yes wake up the season is moving along ] quite a few people on here ,myself included could see we were facing a relegation battle NOT the push for promotion they were led to believe would happen . WE ARE IN A RELEGATION BATTLE, IT HAS TO BE SORTED AND QUICK, I hope we win tomorrow honestly, but i dont believe we will, we may get something from Plymouth, but we will be clawing at the trapdoor for the forseable future,.We will be stranded if we lose any games over next week or two, Norwich,Colchester,Southend, lining up to take our place, hard to swallow that happening .But that is the reality of our situation now .

To be really fair, we have to trust RK. Like many of us, we have paid (or are paying) for their season ticket which until something is done about it, we don't really get a say as to who plays where. Yes we can vent our frustrations like cheering Trotter when he got subbed, and booing at full time but at the end of the day it is Keano who has the final say on what is done. If the decisions he makes are poor, then only he can rectify them. Personally, I am happy to commute up the A12 to watch us. I think we play entertaining football and its a joy to watch - Its the drive back that is most frustrating....

I've been to all of the home games. There weren't 20,000 people there on Saturday. Some people booed - but I also heard chants of "RK's Barmy Army" It isn't good enough - obviously - we all know that. We are not yet in a 'relegation dogfight'.

I've put a fiver on Connor Wickham becoming a full England International before he turns 22. Anyone think I'll win some dosh?
dobbie73 added 13:59 - Oct 19
NW10_Tractor - yeah, I believe that Wickham could prove to be a very good player in the next year or two. Rooney was already a legend before he was 20, so Wickham could be too. I would say though that despite him being good even at his age, he IS still young and learning, and maybe to have him playing for too big a part of the game may be too much pressure on the lad. After all, not sure if he'd want to be the MAIN striker at the tender age of 16/17, lol ....

think you are right dobbie, physical size is only part of the growing up ,and in our present state it would be too much of a burden to take that on .

I have been a staunch Keane supporter all along (just ask callumgarryskeemer),I feel that if he is the manager of the team I support, it naturally follows that i support him and all he does. This is not a blind faith, its just the way i support my team. For those that dont, good luck to you.You support Ipswich however way you want. But now I am having worries, our position is not a false position, we are where we deserve to be. The big question is, is it RK'S FAULT? I know certain members will say yes without giving it a moments thought, but it cant be all his fault ,although i concede that he must shoulder part of the blame, he cannot be held responsible for PREM benchwarmers not wanting to join us, can he? Is it really his fault that we ALL expected automatic promotion pre-season, what with the last results last season, and ME's money,we expected to walk it. What we all feel is a huge dose of dissappointment, and rightly so, but to come on here and tell me I booed along with 19,999 other fans on Saturday is simply incorrect. To come on here and make silly comments about "loaning" a new manager, when this is not even possible, i find totally annoying, and even if it was meant as a joke, it is unhelpful at best. I like all of us on here support ITFC, and if things keep going wrong, well, then a re-think is definitely needed. ITFC comes first, we are a wonderful club, with a well deserved reputation, a reputation for playing football the "right" way, a reputation for being a family club, and a reputation for having great fans. I hold these attributes dearly, and feel that some of the negative, hate filled posts on here do not do us or our reputation any justice at all. If and when the owner feels it is time for a change, I will back that move, but in the meantime I will continue to support ITFC my way and continue to feel proud of my team and its reputation, and dare I say it, its manager

Kevin Webster? I thought he was the mayor of weatherfield. He has come along way since he left Sally! Well done byebyesheepshanks, I think we are all getting a bit too serious on here. Why doesn't he loan cheryl cole from simon? He could attract any players he wanted then!

injuredanimal: can you really not say this is Keane's doing? He's had a bunch of resources and managed ot give us the worst start in the clubs entire history! It can't be anyone else's fault can it? It can't be the players, as many of those have been part of a perfectly satisfactory (if not actually good) team for the last few seasons. Admittedly, the expectation was always foolhardy and excessive - but Keane pild that pressure onto himself and, I suspect, everyone thought his trick at Sunderland would be easily repeated. But any manager can have a good season - just ask Iain Dowie or Glen Roeder. Only time will tell on his career, but time is running out for us. Defeat breeds player insecurity on the pitch which doesn't lead to glorious football and victories (you only had to see the last few minutes on Saturday when all the players started panicing against a team that had barely had a shot all day, to see how these things happen)
dubblue added 15:09 - Oct 19
This is all getting a bit surreal! What next Simon Cowell loaning out John & Edward?? Seriously I am concerned that our current position is such that we are not going to attract any quality players on loan. There are a couple of critical matches coming up - if we don't pick up a win by the end of the month I think we might be looking for a new manager.

I can't hold my water any longer. I refrained from posting on here for a while because I was sick of the childish abuse and threats directed towards me just for expressing my opinion (an opinion equally as valid as anybody else's). RK is still lingering around PR like a bad smell. When will this nightmare be over? It's a shame that Paul Mariner has gone to Plymouth as he is the sort of man we need at Ipswich for the obvious reason and more. Promised more signings? Give me strength! Heard it all before, yawn, yawn, b-o-r-i-n-g! I never expected instant success when Keane came to Portman Road, to be honest I don't expect any success while he is manager. If this was any other manger the fans would be calling for his head en masse - unfortunately because he is Roy Keane we still have people who feel we need to give him "more time", etc. Not good enough - get rid of the man now! It's like putting diesel in a petrol engine - it's not going anywhere and it's not even going to start - only fit for the scrap yard. I'm not gonna quote stats - we all know them and all cringe at them. Injured animal - your first paragraph is the epitome and distinct definition of blind faith even if you don't realise it. Evans, Cleggy - ffs, get rid of this man now - how much more evidence do you need that he is no good for this club? Who amongst us can seriously expect a win on Tuesday night against Watford?

I can!!! Some Ipswich fans are never satisfied! Ok keane goes.....who comes in? Curbs wont come here fact! So who else will get us out of the poop? The walley with the brolly? No thanks. If del boy trotters shot would have gone in on saturday nobody would have said a word against Keane! Mind you saying that del-boy could have probably scored that!!! At the end of the day we must stick together.

I reckon we'll win, in fact I know that we'll BEAT boring, Boring Watford. I live near Watford and I'd hate to have them giving me the middle finger coming back along the A12 if we did lose! Watford ain't anything special anyway. Town to win 2-0, You heard it here first!!!
