Keane Thanks Fans
Keane Thanks Fans
Wednesday, 21st Oct 2009 13:43

Boss Roy Keane has thanked fans for the reception they gave his players after last night’s 1-1 draw with Watford. Despite conceding another late goal and taking the winless run to 13 games, the Portman Road faithful applauded the side off the field.

Keane told the club site: "I think the reception the players got says something about the performance, but it's also a reflection on the supporters at this club.

"I've said many times that it's easy to support your team when you are winning every week but when you are on a run that we are on - and we're not proud of it - for the fans to applaud the players off it gives us some hope.

"Maybe people outside the club say it's a crisis and results-wise it is, but the spirit and desire are there and the support from the fans is there for everyone to see, and that is much appreciated.

"We're bitterly disappointed not to have got the win and bitterly disappointed to be where we are.

"I've told the players that we have got to keep going, keep believing in what we're doing, but there is no doubt we face a massive test. It's a test that we have stand up to."

superfudeblue:

I get your meaning and I didn't think I'd done that. I thought I'd been reasonable and made it clear that it was only my opinion.

But fair enough.

Let's leave it here and hope that the last two games are a sign of the future and not a blip.

Yeah thats fair, am im not saying all hail keane lol, all im saying is lets all stay positive share our opinions but not aim them at Keane, or the team, its unjust.
The way i see things is that none of us knows what goes on behind the scenes at a football club, could Garvin have been abusive? same with D Wright, unlike our jobs if we do something wrong we can be sacked for Gross Misconduct - that doesnt seem to be an option within a football club. So maybe that could be a reason behind the weard team selections some times?.
anyway i can see that Naa u are a positive fan which i applaud we need more like us, i understand people frustrations, but why shout scream and slag when positive comments go a lot further.

Lets hope this is a sign of slow and steady building the new team paying off and not a one off performance that didn't get its deserved reward! We will need a few more performances like last night.

Nice to see some optimism from our true supporters - i'm not one of those calling for Keane's head, yes he has made mistakes (as every manager has) and i'm not going to get into those I didn't/don't necessarily agree with but signs are there that he is getting it right now. Full support Roy, we just need that win for the confidence and to avoid these nervous finishes.

Hopefully Priskin will come back in Wickhams absence and find his scoring touch to give us more than a one goal cushion!!!!

Enjoyed the game last night, and was really impressed with the attitude of the players (did you see how personal Rosenior took it - even replying to the supporters by giving his shirt to someone in the crowd). Each one of them gave it their all and played their best home performance so far. Trotter is by far the weakest link, it feels like we're playing with 10 men when he's on the pitch. Got to give Quinn a start or use Garvan instead of Trotter.

Shame we conceded so late in the game, but impressed with the way things are shaping, just need that first win to start us all believing again.

Roll on Saturday... though might be harder now since we conceded so cruelly late in the last game.

This may obtain some conflicting views but not sure what other Blues opinions are?

Was amazed to find out when I got home after last nights match that we next to WBA have had the most shots at goal in the division yet still find ourselves at the bottom. I know we have conceeded a hat-full and the defence have been the brunt of the stick the team has been getting (e.g. McA, Bruce, Smith, Pim, R.Wright) and calls are that we need a new CB. Surely this creates an arguement that there is an equal problem at the other end. Obviously if we don't concede we don't lose but do you think the back lines 'nervousness' is being enhanced by the fact we are not putting away our chances or giving ourselves a 2-3 goal cushion?

I wish more of the fans would back the team. I was proud of the fans last night applauding the team off and they deserved it if not the scoreline. The fans who all booed and left when the goal went in... What does that achieve? Apart from lowering confidence? The players know when they perform well or not because it's reflected in the league position, it's reflected in the changing room, in the team selection, in the wages/contract renewal negotiations. As fans, booing our own team does nothing but provide fuel for media and opposition fans to create further low confidence. Get behind the team, we're fans and supporters, we're part of the club as much as anyone so we need to be part if the team spirit! The cliched 12th man. COYB!!

Superblueflude..Even if Delaneys transfer was agreed when Jim was here any new manager coming in can cancel it at any stage until he signs so Keane did sign him and did play him above Wright who did nothing wrong played in our only clean sheet and was one f our best defenders last year so him coming back in an playing well is not a Keane positive it shows he wrong to not play him, as it will if he brings back Garvan and he plays well ,yes i agree Garvan may have sharpend up but to pick weaker players(Trotter,Healy,Quinn,Colbaek) to get more out of others who are dropped is not a game plan and that is why we are bottom of the league. Our defence from the start of the season played today for the res.and let in three that is because they are not good enough and Keane has at last realised that our team was not that bad last season and started re picking those players which is why we are playing better and the wins will come ,but until the wins do come lets not praise Keane so much because if we struggle against Plymouth,Derby and Reading i believe he will be gone

'Naa'...It's interesting that you always get one 'supporter' that has to complain when almost everyone else are continuing to stand by the players and team, as supporters are meant to do.

I actually feel that Keane has been let down badly by McAuley and Richard Wright this season- Only a blind man could say that their errors haven't cost us points this season. McAuley was much improved last night and he was doing what we want to see him doing, giving 100% and looking solid. Yes, he was bad at the start of last year and became much better by the end, but ultimately any bad spells of form are very costly. I can't beleive you are indicating that Richard Wright and McAuley didn't need reality checks from Keane- I stand by Keane 110% in bringing them down to Earth, those 2 have been given a huge kick up the arse and rightly so. As for knocking an earlier guy's quote about Keane being able to succeed at Town, I bet you weren't saying that when it was announced he was becoming our new manager. Give the manager time to mould the squad. Results aren't reflecting it right now but we are looking a much better team game by game and we have been by far the unluckiest team around this year- thats not even a topic up for discussion in my view, and what happened last night could only happen to us at the moment. Form is temporary, quality is permanent- You go through our squad and quality wise, I am not concerned. We will come good this year and hopefully we will be pushing up at the right end with a good run of form (like Palace in 2004, it is possible) or at the very least be much better prepared for next season. There is a 2 year plan with Keane remember...

In relation to the more sensible and appreciative posts to this story though, I agree that last night was a much improved performance and agree that Begovic appears to be settling our defence down. Watford always seem to rob us, however dreadfully they play, but that's just how things are going at the moment. We didn't look like a team bottom of the league without a win by any means whatsoever. Blue Army!!!

serco can i ask then because im really confused by your comment
you say that in the reserves our first team defence at the start of season lost -fair play - but didnt that include Bruce? and Pim - people shouted at us to drop mcauley so who would replace him Bruce Pim? for example well obviously that wouldnt have been a good choice.
At the end of the day Keane needed to see who our strong players are - and for once can people kind of see how maybe changing our keeper has helped?!.

Roy Keane is our Manager & I have massive support for him & shall remain that way, the improvements are there to be seen, I'd rather see football played well as it was by our boys last night, than watch a team that was so excellent (mainly because they can buy the best players in the world) that predictably win virtually everything, just watch the fans in league one & two on the tv & note how excited they become when their team plays well etc. have faith the results will come very soon, I am certain.

The boys played well last night, the only thing they could have done more was to have the finishing touch and take the chances that came their way. The 1st win of the season is close.

I have complete faith in Roy. We don't- and won't- know half of what is going on behind the scenes, I'm sure in terms of what Roy has had to work with. I, and the majority of the supporters who contribute to this site, have faith in Roy, SC & ME to sort out the mess left by the last manager, where players were selected according to how well he got on with them- or others! I was proud to be there last night; anyone who has been a manager (not just a football manager) will know that things dont happen overnight when an overhaul is required and we have to be patient. That the win is just round the corner.

My belief in Keane has grown after last night. As sickening as the result was, the performance was comfortably the best we've seen at home this year.
The atmosphere last night proved how much belief and support there is from the fans. Things are on the way up for Town.

What's the difference between fans and supporters? Just wondering.

As much as I would like to, I just can't warm to Keane and yes - it's because of what happened during his playing career, but also due to the disasterous start we have had to this season. For me to 'get behind' Keane would make me a hypocrite and if there is one thing that I detest it is hypocrisy. If we were top of the league I still wouldn't like the man, I could never like a man like that. But, all the same I would be appreciative of what he has done for the team and would personally thank him for it if I got the chance.

It's difficult to put personal feelings about somebody to one side just because they are managing the club you support and this is what I am finding difficult in all of this.

I love the team - and yes - the efforts last night were outstanding compared to what we have seen so far this season; even though we still couldn't win. I am always behind the 11 on the pitch but could never be behind that man we currently have as manager. That's the conflict I have to live with.

Despite our position,I feel very upbeat after last night. Really goes to show how the fans and players can encourage each other. Will never understand boo-boys, I think that it has become a habit, carried over from last season. JUST STOP IT. It doesnt help anyone! Sure town will do the bizz on saturday.Come on town!
