QPR Linked With Garvan Move
QPR Linked With Garvan Move
Tuesday, 17th Nov 2009 09:04

Jim Magilton’s QPR are the latest Championship club to be linked with a move for out-of-favour Town midfielder Owen Garvan. Rangers are said to have made an enquiry regarding taking the Irish U21 international skipper on loan.

Garvan, who has also been linked with Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe in recent days, was a Town regular under Magilton’s management but hasn’t featured for Roy Keane’s side since August.

The Dubliner misses tonight’s Republic of Ireland U21 game in Armenia as he is suspended.

So at long last, Jim has shown an interest in one of his old players. Speaks volumes.

Garvan couldnt save anyone's job, he was appalling against Norwich reserves a few weeks ago which culminated in the Troy Brown telling him to stop moaning, if that is his idea of a performance to get back into the 1st team then hell will freeze over before he deserves his place back.

Its been clear that he has been nowhere near his best since he had his little episode a few years ago.

I'd love to buy him a pint and ask him what the drama is? Though it was only us Northeners who couldn't get on with ourselves.

At the end of the day, its getting close to the loan deadline, so the media will be doing 2+2=5 all over the place with any out-of-favour player in an effort to stir up rumour!

And anyway, I thought Jimbo had admitted he had left a sh!te squad here for Roy to inherit ....

Good point Dobbie, So it's not all RK's fault is it. Rebuilding takes time, we'll be ok

Toilet... I doubt Jim needs an enigma going to QPR. They don't really seem to need him looking at the league table.

How's that for speaking volumes?

And who exactly is doing the 'linking'? I can't see that Jim has said anything about being interested in OG.

I've also noticed that some people appear to think that when OG has played well, then it's down to him - but when he plays badly, then it's somebody else's fault...

Garvan, is mediocre at best...
But it seems that because he can deliver a free kick and shoot occasionally people think he actually worth an inclusion in the team.
Realistically he hardly tackles, he lacks genuine pace, and runs like a poof as he's not physically balanced, his corner taking is also atrocious.
So if a club is willing to take him with a fee involved then it will be good business.

The club supported him through his homesickness and Shingles illness problems and this is how he repays that faith.

It's a shame Darren Ambrose didn't perform when he was on loan here like he's doing now at Crystal Palace, he has more ability than Garvan will ever have and wouldn't have cost us anything.

Good point on Ambrose, cats_whiskers. He was a big disappointment on loan here, and we all know how well he CAN play. Maybe he would have responded better to Keano than Magilton, I dunno ....

I was at West Brom when Garvan was subbed and rightly so, he was atrocious. Shame, i think everyone fancied him to make his mark.

Seems to me that although we produce good youngsters, blooding them in the first team has become a bit of a problem. None of them in recent times have set the world alight. A sign of the times maybe or something intrinsically wrong with the final hurdle of our infrastructure?

CGS - Garvan playing poorly in the reserves is going to save Keane's job - muppet.

I thought we had established that yes he is playing badly in the reserves, bt given a run in the first team, to build his fitness and confidence he would play alot better.

Anyway what has Keano got to lose - nothing apart from more respect from the footballing world!

Love him or hate him, Keano was one of the best midfield players in the game. He knows his stuff when it comes to what a midfield player should be doing and how they should be performing.

Even though I like Garvan, I trust Keano's judgement and if he says hes not playing well enough then he must not be playing well enough!

callumgarryskeemer - Surely the problem with OG is his inconsistency. OK, if he were to get back into the first team he may have a good match or two, but history has shown that he's likely to follow that up with some of his 'Mr Invisible' performances.

And you are entitled to your views mate - even if they are a bit mad!

Good point Mark.
I just feel that neven if he is not palying well I would rather have him than trotter quinn peters, he may well play badly but has the potential to come up with a match winning pass or goal. Not many of our other players seem to be able to do that!

Nobrain, My points are normal, just think I put them across in the wrong way!

Markie31 can I take issue with what you've said about Keane, I wouldn't argue that he was a good player for United and he knows about playing in midfield.... but..... that doesn't make him a good manager or motivator to players. My objections to Keane managing the club I love are simple, he's shown so many times in the past that he loses his temper and behaves like a petulant child. He's blown up at McAuley and told him to find another club, then plays him in the team again!
I'll tell you for sure that our players currently are confused and fearful of Keane, he doesn't know how to manage other people, because he can't manage his own temper. I think with one or two additions we had the squad to make a serious challenge for promotion, the reason we're not is simple it's Roy Keane and the decisions he's made!
I've said before some players don't need a kick up the arse & Garvan is one of them, I can only see one solution to this problem.... M.E. or S.C saying they've made a mistake and getting another 'manager' in.

Dobie all new managers say the their new team is good when they join ,Mr Keane did the same saying the sqaud was very good and only needed a few changes , before dismantling it ,isolating players , telling players they could leave or would never play again ,changing the side every game ,three different captains, and dropping confidence from the nervousness of the players performances on the pitch . So was he lying or more frightening a poor judge of abilities ?
And also if Jims side was so sh!te and Keane has brought in 3 of the best players in the league in your opinion why are we in a worse position than we ever were under Jim with a better team ?

It's amazing how quickly people can forget four seasons of quality on the back of a couple naff performances in a team full of players who are all playing badly. Garvan has been a great servant to the club, we've been close to voting him player of the season a couple times, and all of a sudden now he's terrible because a man who's only been here a couple months says he is? And we all make U-turns on our assessments of his abilities, because, you know, God forbid you disagree with anything Keane says. If you do that then you're OBVIOUSLY a Norwich fan.

Good players don't just suddenly go terrible overnight, you know. His ability is still very much there, it's just that Keane's 'chop and change' management style in which you get knocked to the bottom of the pecking order after one bad performance and have to work your way back up just doesn't work for him. He's the sort of player who needs to be playing every game in order to get any degree of consistancy. He's also emotionally weak, so he fell to pieces when he got dropped and so isn't the sort to just "get his head down and prove he deserves a place in the team". And on top of that, he probably got a bad time on the army assualt course in pre-season.

Therefore, it's totally understandable that Keane doesn't like him. He's not his kind of player. But that doesn't mean he's suddenly awful. If he leaves for a manager who essentially puts his arm around him and says "it's alright, you're still a good player" rather than "Right, you're crap. You're dropped" then he could still succeed at this level (and possibly higher...).
