Peters Signs New Deal
Peters Signs New Deal
Tuesday, 15th Dec 2009 14:28

Midfielder Jaime Peters has signed a new three-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2013. TWTD was first to reveal that the Canadian international had been offered the new deal back in October.

The 22-year-old, whose current terms were due to expire at the end of the season, told the club site that he is delighted to be extending his time at Portman Road: "It's a nice Christmas present and I'm obviously very pleased to be given the chance to stay here.

"I've had my ups and down in my time here but Ipswich is a great club and I'm pleased with the way things have gone for me this season in terms of being involved with the first team.

"I think I have progressed as a player this season and I'm enjoying playing under the manager.

"Results have not gone as we would have hoped for, but our performances have been good lately and there is a confidence in the squad now that things are turning around.

"If we can keep our run going and win a few more games then we will move up the table quickly and get closer to the play-offs. That's the aim."

Peters joined the Blues in 2005 having been on trial at Portman Road the previous year. The Canadian has made 38 starts and 25 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring two goals. During his time with Town, Peters has also spent spells on loan at Yeovil and Gillingham.

Shows promise, but lacks consistency, glad he has signed because he has the best pace in our squad, and as Saturday proved, we need that to mix things up! Well Done Jaime.

I would have thought David Wright is a bigger priority

how does jaime signing a new contract suggest that david wright isnt a higher priority? just because jaime has signed doesnt mean we aren't trying to sign david wright too!!

delighted for jaime, he offers something different, has become a versatile player this year, and is still young with a high ceiling....great news

Good to see he has signed good player, always works hard. May not be the best footballer but he always puts 100% into his game.

Well deserved Jamie, after it was all looking in the balance at the end of last season, you've come in and performed under Keane. Looking forward to seeing develop even more!

Further proof that Roy is building a squad of hard working dedicated footballers. Those who share his ethos love him, OK peters isnt the best in the squad...But he's turned garvan and others around, look at his work rate as well as his ability (he always had that) since he came back...
we are on the verge of something special...i feel it...
a few places more up the table and we will then attract the couple of quality, hard working signings we need in the wndow as well as getting rid of any work shy pansies we are left with...

Quite simply.....theres only one KEANOOOOO!

We all knew he had pace, but when it was all falling apart on the pitch earlier in the season he was one of the few who stood up and had a go, showing a strength of character I'd never seen from him before. Glad to see him stay.

COYB!

This is good for the club. Jaime, in my opinion, still shows a great deal of potential and is certainly playing better and has had more first team involvement under Roy Keane. I am pleased to see us retaining promising players.

Good to have a multi-positional player on board. Glad the contract signing was easier this time round. Remember all that shenanigans over work permits that Sheepy had to sort out last time ?

Great news - at 22 his best footballing years are ahead of him, and the elements of his game that need improving will come with experience and the type of hard work that RK no doubt demands from his players.

Also handy to have a player in the squad who can play as either full-back or across the midfield!

I have always liked the young lad who has speed, can take players on,and has a good shot but doesn't yet seem to have confidence. Is now getting more games and must be one of longest serving players;but at 22 can develop further under RK's wing.I wouldn't consider him dead wood as previously described;so good on you my son.
I wonder what UEFA 81 thinks?

Nice one Peters. I think he's taken a bit longer than expected to start featuring more regularly but has showed his worth this season. He's still clearly got loads more learning to do. Great work rate, needs to be more direct though i think, but yeah, agreed, good versatility.

On David Wright, he has to be given a new contract doesn't he!? An excellent full back going forward and defensively both on the left or right and a good ambassador for the club. No question really.

I am not a fan of Jamie's - never really seen him set the world alight for us. BUT is committed and gives 110%. Probably deserves his extension.
