Garvan Has Considered Moving On
Garvan Has Considered Moving On
Thursday, 11th Mar 2010 15:36

Midfielder Owen Garvan has revealed that he has considered his Town future. The Irish U21 international skipper has been in and out of the side all season, but returned to the team for Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Cardiff.

The 22-year-old said: “It's crossed my mind about moving on, but that's all. After each season I am the sort of person who looks back over the previous nine months.

“So I'll sit down in the summer and reflect on how it's gone. I have an appetite to do well for Ipswich Town and want to be a success as a footballer. Things change so quickly in this game.”

Dublin-born Garvan is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2011.

Do not not let him slip away Keane or I am done with you.

Seriously I know he has been a bit up and down but he brings us another dimension and he should be a sure bet for the starting XI

I'm not a particular fan of his, but I definitely, definitely hope he stays. He's still a great prospect and there's no denying that when he concentrates, he's a very good player for us, with that other dimension to our midfielders like Leadbitter, Norris, Quinn..

I'd be very, very disappointed if he were to leave.

Well done Keano on getting the best from Garvan. The penny seems to have dropped with him and we now get nothing less than 100% from him and not the 80/90% we were getting. He has the ability to be a world class player, he offers us vision from midfeild and we must do what we can to keep hold of him.

Cue all the anti -Keane nonsense about how it is his fault that he has ruined Garvan and how people would reather see Keane go than Garvan etc. etc.

I actually think that Keane has managed Garvan well this season - in his first few games Garvan was utter rubbish and desereved to be dropped. Keane then made sure that Garvan knew that he would have to work bloody hard to get back into the team, which in fairness to the lad, he did and since then he has played a lot better.

I would also say that as much as I hope Garvan stays - I do think we have a better midfeild pairing in Norris and Leadbitter - and that it may be a case that we have to shoe-horn Garvan into the team on the left or the right and that he will have to wait his chance to get a full-time central midfield berth

Don''t blame Owen for thinking if his future lies at Portman Road.

He has been pissed about by Keane despite being our most creative central midfielder by a long chalk.

Hope he stays.
He's the only one who can retain the ball, pass the ball, and create something!

God forbid we end up with more Norris/Leadbitter/Colback clones...

Yes Keane has managed Garvan really well by not playing him while we continually dont win ,and dont score many goals ,marvellous management.Check the wins and see if Garvan has started and the amount of times this season when we have scored more than one goal in a game and if Garvan has started .
And how many games do you want to watch Leadbitter and Norris in the centre together before you realise it is not as effective as when Garvan is paired with either,he has created almost as many goals as Leadbitter in a third of the games .
And as for being deserved to be dropped he only started the West Brom game in which the whole side was crap apart from Wrighty and then was dropped ,he came on as sub against Coventry and Leicester before that and had done well in both games .

Personally i think Owen owes Keano a debt of gratitude his insistance on him working hard both in training and on the pitch is helping him fulfill his undoubted potential. His career was stalling now he's flying. Sign a new deal, when its offerd Owen.

yorkshire: I can only assume you didn't see the game on Tuesday then? Garvsan showed exactly what we don't get with Norris and Leadbitter. They are both good players but they do not form a decent central midfield partnership at all.

Its all about consistency Garven was poor earlier on and rightly dropped. Yes he played well Tuesday and deserves to keep his place. Lets see how he does Saturday.

Its a squad game. Lets not over analyise

Agree with wickets - nGarvan better for his problems with Roy. keano - offer an improved seal now, and Owen, accept.

He's a good player so Keane is bound to let him go, or push him out.

Look at it this way...if he does leave it will be soooooo slowly it will be another season before he gets to the Town's boundary

He was absolutely awful at the beginning of the season, West Brom away in particular. RK muttered about players playing their last game for us and I honestly felt it was time for Owen to go. Since coming back from his exile following that game is there anyone who can say he hasn't come back as a better player than he ever was before? Now he runs, tackles and generally puts himself about as well as providing his usual killer passes. Whatever RK did to him has worked wonders.

he can go, as far as I'm concerned. he's an average "passing player". he won't get us anywhere.

if we have ambitions for promotion, we need a passing midfielder, but we need someone better than Garvan. I suspect we'll get an offer in the summer and we'll sell him to fund the purchase of someone better.

I think surco and naa have said it all, spot on.
Still can't believe there are keanites who think keane has handled him well this season. We'd be so much better off if he'd used garvan more and more efectively. But that's the same for lots of players (Walters, d wright, etc)

yorkshire: I can only assume you didn't see the game on Tuesday then?

I did - and I thought that Garvan played really well but - I still think that Norris and Leadbitter are a better midfield pairing - although as I suggested I would still try to play Garvan either on the left or the right.

For me he is a great squad player and to rotate him, Peters, Edwards, Colback(for this season)and Walters around the midfield along with Norris and Leadbitter is the best way to play - just like Keane is currently doing
