McAuley in Team of the Week
McAuley in Team of the Week
Tuesday, 6th Apr 2010 17:46

Defender Gareth McAuley has been named in the Championship’s Team of the Week for his performances in Town’s two Easter victories. The Northern Irishman netted a goal in both games.

McAuley has now scored five goals during 2009/10, having failed to net in his first season with the Blues. The former Leicester man was also in the Team of the Week a fortnight ago after the victory over Barnsley.

Team of the Week: David Marshall (Cardiff), Bradley Orr (Bristol City), Stephen McManus (Middlesbrough), Gareth McAuley (Ipswich), Callum Davidson (Preston), Tommy Rowe (Peterborough), Kevin Nolan (Newcastle), Andy King (Leicester), Jimmy Kebe (Reading), Michael Chopra (Cardiff) and Martyn Waghorn (Leicester).

McAuley again!? Good lad! He must be the Town player who has got in the most in 2009/10?

Well done. I slated McAuley at the start of the season. He has proved me wrong. Hands up.

He's been our player of the season, without doubt. And for the second year running, he gets my vote.

What an amazing turn around and I for one hold my hands up. I was at a loss of how bad Delany and Bug Mac were but they have really uped their game and quite frankly, I don't know whether it has happened before but I would say it should be a joint men of the season. We have been calling out for a decent defence for ages and finally we have got 2 of the best central defenders in the league.

Well done Mr. Keane for getting the best out of them.

Well done Gareth.

Like others, I was very worried about him earlier on in the season - but he has applied himself and done the job. If he had pace, he'd be in the Premiership already.

i think the problem was Delaney was playing left back which wasnt his natural position and G Mac had Bruce beside who lets face it is a dreadful defender and i think that affected McAuleys game, he will certainly be getting my shout for player of the season!!!

McAuley definitely Towns' Player of the Year [Again!] - Commands the back line well, he just needed a back 4 that would listen! Mac & Delaney could become the rock that takes town forward, and to think he nearly went to 'Boro for £1m?

Boo Boys be ashamed, be very ashamed!

COYB. Well done Gareth, and a new Dad too - seems 2009/10 had a silver lining for someone at Town anyway. Deserves all the credit he gets, I'll never forget the cr** he took from the crowd at the home game v PNE. Shocking, and he played like a man with the crowd on his back too!

Interesting to see if he gets in the final Championship Team of the Season, would get my vote but we'll see.

Interesting point. Here's one for you Phil. How many times has Mac been in the team of the week? What defenders have been in it the most?

I reckon he's a slow starter, because that's 2 seasons in a row he's started like a donkey, and finished like a thoroughbred. He looks a class act at the moment and has now added goals to his game

McAuley deserves a hell of alot of credit, at the start of the season he was often refered to as McAwful on this forum and even dropped by Keane, but what a turn around.

Keano always talked about characters and it takes a big character to take all the boo's and criticism and prove everyone wrong. Definately a candidate for player of the season. Him and Delaney are my fav players at Town at the minute.

Ever since Delaney has moved from left back into center back he has been brilliant. Definatly the most improved players this season.. so he gets my Player of the season vote however Mac has been great aswell !
