Town Set for New Chopra Offer Monday, 7th Jun 2010 17:47
Town are reportedly ready to up their offer to Cardiff City for Michael Chopra to just over £4 million. Last week, the Blues increased their bid to £3.75 million, but the Bluebirds are believed to want to at least match the £4 million fee they paid Sunderland for the 26-year-old a year ago.
Chopra played for manager Roy Keane at Sunderland and the Newcastle-born striker is the Blues boss’s number one target this summer. Keane hopes to pair Chopra, who scored 21 goals for Cardiff during 2009/10, with Connor Wickham next season.
The Bluebirds are understood to be lining up Swindon’s Charlie Austin to replace Chopra once Town have made an offer they find acceptable.
Austin, 20, was linked with the Blues in December, during a hugely impressive first season as a professional with the defeated League One play-off finalists.

Chopra - not sure on is his goal ration 1 in 3 matches ???? However would like to see some quality up front and thats what he will bring. it could increase the amount of goals connor wicham scores and treble his value, its a good business investment. I would not pay more than 4 million for him, as wages would be a point.

1 in 3... somewhere near 15 goals... It's better than what we currently have.

we should be spending the 4 million on getting some quality management in .thats where the problem lies

chopra is proven at this level and surely worth a punt even at £4 mil, its alot of money and a realistic target. with signing any player there is always a chance that they do not perform, just look at liverpool, haha! any player can perfom or improve under the right managment, we just have to hope that roy is our man. i wont be too surprised if he walks out half way through next season when we are 12th, but unlike some people on here i support town regardless of performance or managment. yes we would all like to see town in the prem, but lets be realistic for a second, we are in the championship, the most competative division in the world its hard enough to say in the div let alone get promoted but on the other hand anyone can get promoted, just look at blackpool, they're not a big club. town have a fantastic history, but its time to concentrate on ther here and now!

generalpublic. why dont you come back a post a comment when you have actuall seen ipswich play football hey? roy keane is a big name in football and a proven manager(with funds) which we have! if anyone can attract a player to ippy then its roy!

Agree with slowerball's comments - getting Chopra is as much a statement of intent as it about solving our goalscoring problems. Yes, we might be able to find an unknown with similar goalscoring potential for less, but it's the signal we're sending out with getting Chopra you need to think about. It says we're a serious contender for promotion, we have an owner who's willing to back that up and (much as some people won't want to hear it), the manager is here to stay. You don't give a guy £4m to spend on one player with other new signings due as well if he's on borrowed time, simple as that. All of this makes us a more attractive proposition for potential new players and increases our chances of getting the players the manager wants. If that means paying a bit more, so be it.

What exactly do you base your comments on barmyarmy? I want keane to succeed but you're living in la la land. Keane is a big screamy poopants who talks a lot and delivers no sausages. ''If anyone can attract a player to Ipswich then it's Roy''. That blatently isn't true. We were crap last season. Mainly due to having no tactics once a game began. If it wasn't working it wasn't changed apart from some bananas substitutions. I watched it all unfold. COYB.

i agree we were not good last season and i dont see how we are going to improve.there are many big names in football it doesnt mean nowt.i wonder does a name like roy keane who had anger management problems as a player and who really should have been banned for life after his horrific spitefull on purpose tackle on the man city player many years ago really attract quality players or scare them away..

Chopra is great business at £4million. With him and Wickham up front we have two strikers that could hit 20+ a piece! Priskin still has a lot to give in my opinion, we will see him score goals in the mighty shirt! Pablo is my hero, but maybe it is time we said farewell to the legendary spaniard, but there will always be the argument that no-one holds the ball up as well as he does so that could be the reason for Keane to hold on to him. Stead is gone in RK's eyes, so we might as well forget about him staying. Would love to get someone like Austin in as well, if ont he cheap!

My wife is always telling me off for being pessimistic...but I still can't help thinking that the only reason we're bidding £4m for Chopra is because some club is going to give us £5m for Wickham. We can't afford £4m on a single player can we?

£4m is much too much, wait until the autumn and get him for £2m
RetroBlue added 09:48 - Jun 8
£4m would look very cheap if promotin happens over the next year or two , as a result of of it and the Club gets £90m for going up ...and then x4 years of £14m parachute money . Fans need to realise this club is now owned by a multi millionaire, who knows about business. So doesnt throw money away -but makes good calaculated business decisions - Chopra is one of those !

Chopra would be an excellent signing. He is a quality player with a proven track record at this level - he will not stop us being a terrible team though. We need to concentrate on getting width into the team and some creative flair - that is what the fans want! A few goals here and there mean nothing - we want good football - end of story.

I can not believe so many people are worried about the size of the fee. Who cares? I think its great we are prepared to pay some serious money for probably the best striker in the league. If we get him then it will be up there with the capture of Stewart and DJ in terms of goal power. This is exactly the type of quality player we need.

Id go no more than 4 mill, its a top end price for any player outside the prem.and hes only what id call"a decent player.anyhow.
SouperJim added 11:37 - Jun 8
Chopra is well worth £4m and I think I'd be prepared to pay a bit more, if we've got it. He is clearly one of the best strikers in the division and is a proven top of champ/bottom of prem standard player who is going to get at least double figures. If we are serious about success we need players like Chopra and that means paying this kind of money. We've speculated on sub £2m players before and it's got us nowhere, those worried about the size of the fee need to be realistic about the current market or be prepared to settle for mid-table obscurity.

Looks like Bellamy could be making a shock move to Cardiff in replace of Chopra... me thinks they have the better deal there ! still would be happy to see him at PR next season

DONT THINK WE WILL BE GETTING HOOPER AS HE LOOKS TO HAVE SIGNED FOR LEEDS FOR 2 MILLION, HOWEVER I MENTIONED ON ANOTHER POST THAT THEY ARE LETTING TRESOR KANDOL GO ON A FREE AND HE MIGHT BE WORTH A LOOK AT, WICKHAM COULD LEARN A LOT FROM HIM. FOR THOSE THAT DONT KNOW HE WAS ON LAON AT CHARLTON IN THE CHAMIONSHIP 2 SEASONS AGO AND TORE OUR DEFENCE TOI BITS, HIS A BIG POWERFUL STRIKER WITH PACE, SOMETHING WE HAVENT HAD FOR A WHILE. GO GET HIM KEANE, WOULD BE A GREAT SIGNING.

A cracking piece fo business... Use Connors strength and height to win the long balls and bring them down for Chops. I could easily see Connor bagging 15-18 goals and Chopra would be 20+ next season! Cardiff fans must be screwing to be losing this player!! He is exactly what we missed last term.. And the Charlton Midfielder Nicky Bailey... I see progress being made down the Road!

Wow you guys seem really excited about chopra playing for Ipswich. We are not desperate for money anymore, new investors taken over the club.Tax bill being paid, and our manager with a shopping list of 6 players. We will sell for silly money now,coz the financial pressure is off. Reckon if you offer 4.5 mill the club will sell. He comes with a hefty salary for championship player 15,000k a week plus goal bonuses, and further bonuses for scoring over 20. He scores in batches which is frustrating and also exciting, and sniffs a goal out in seconds But in barren spells, you beg the manager to drop him going 12 games without a hit,but you dare not drop him coz you know a barrage of goals is due i read the championship stats on ipswich attempts on goal would surely have got 25+ with chopra good luck next season
