Evans Backing Keane
Evans Backing Keane
Thursday, 10th Jun 2010 15:59

Town owner and chairman Marcus Evans is reported to have met with manager Roy Keane yesterday to reassure him regarding his position in the wake of this week’s claims of his likely sacking.

Evans’s helicopter was spotted at the Playford Road Training Centre yesterday. This afternoon’s report claims clear-the-air talks with Keane were the reason for his visit.

Speculation regarding Keane’s future had all but disappeared until earlier this week when a national newspaper claimed that Steve Cotterill, who is understood to be close to being named the new manager of Portsmouth, and Tony Mowbray, said to have met with Evans recently, were in the frame to take over at Portman Road.

Back in March, chief executive Simon Clegg dismissed the then-widespread claims that Keane’s sacking was on the cards.

Meanwhile, Keane himself says he has no regrets about his controversial exit from Ireland’s World Cup campaign in Japan and Korea: “Missing out on the 2002 World Cup finals does not lose me any sleep.

“I enjoyed helping Ireland qualify, and the madness of it all is that people still don’t know the full story. There are as usual plenty of second guesses.

“There was a view within the Irish camp that just because we had qualified, we had done enough. But that did not sit with me.

“With a good manager who’s brought a professional attitude and a new stadium about to open, my hope is that Irish football will be now taken seriously. There has been an improvement, but there is a lot more to be done.”

I am not one for chopping and changing managers, but you don't keep one if he's not the right man for the sake of continuity. There is also no regret from keane about his behaviour or things he's said..a few small admissions he's made mistakes, but no change...its not a sin to make mistakes, its a sin to not learn from them

All those people who despise Roy Keane may i make a suggestion....there is a club north of us who hate Roy Keane also and they love to brag about their massive gates, and hey they even won a tin cup last year and had a open air bus tour and party........May I suggest you take your useless a$$e$ up there and support them as we as sure as hell don't want you here....

Good. That's an end of that. Now it's time for the fans to get behind Roy and the team for the season ahead. It is also time for Clegg and Roy to earn their salaries by signing quality players before pre-season and before it's too late to bed them in.

Yawn Yawn Yawn! To say I am fed up with reading people slating Keane is an understatement to say the least! Let get one thing straight- HE IS OUR MANAGER!!!!! I have stated before on TWTD that last season was a big dissapointment not only 4 us supporters but also Keano & his team & the players! Burley got us promoted and also took us down, Magilton promised Premier League football within 3 years and did we get there? exactly! Keane has the passion to suceed and I am sure he will get the best out of the players next season which will result in promotion!
So all I ask to you Keane doubters/haters if you don't like it keep your comments to yourselves as we need everyone behind Keane & the team next season!

Thought we were meant to be a carbon neutral club. Why take a heli trip to do what could be done on the blower? Shame on you Evans!

Evans out!

So the media can identify Marcus Evans' helicopter but are unable to get a photograph of him? People need to get real : there is no single person called Marcus Evans, simply a corporation of that name with ever changing representatives that attend meetings etc. It is impossible for any public figure, other than a recluse (which he is not meant to be) to avoid the camera. He is fictitious. And the news itself? Shame. When that psychopath is finally removed from here, not one of his pig-ignorant 'keep the faif' supporters will raise their head above the parapet.

unfortunately with a big-name manager like RK, i think we're doomed to having to put up with these rumours... there are some journalists out there who are only interested in causing unrest, no matter how little truth there is to something. but hey, we know that already.

im no Keane fan,but the the comments about his notorious foul and the Republic 's World Cup episode are irrelivant, i cant see any point in keep bringing that up as an arguement / excuse to get rid of him.It seems he will be here to see new season so may as well bite the bullet, personally i dont think next season will be any better or different from last ,but we will have wait to see.Lets see some positive signings and pre season results against decent teams. I literally can't be bothered to have the Keane in / Keane out argument anymore. It gives me a headache and makes me tired!

the point made about magilton not getting us promoted in 3 years...did we ever have as bad a season as the last with him in charge? Exactly.

STEAD14 "Keane has the passion to suceed and I am sure he will get the best out of the players next season which will result in promotion!"

Why are you sure he'll get the best out of them next season? If he can do it next season, why not this season? yes the season was a disapointment, I assume you agree its mainly keanes fault as the man picking the signings, the team, the tactics, training them, motivating them..the buck does stop with him. Why are we so much worse than under jom with so much money being spent and most of the new signings being part of the problems on the pitch.

So what do you think he did wrong?

Secondly can idiots on here please stop this ridiculous...if you dont like the manager you are not a fan, support someone else rubbish. Fans throughout the game, throughout the years have reserved the right to criticise the manager to varying levels. Its a pathetic viewpoint that makes no sense. I might disagree with those who rate/dont rate certain players, managers etc, but I do not ever think they are not right to express their opinion or think they are not fans.

Mindless following of the club? only souless heartless clubs have fans like that.

Agree with the above comment . When any supporter- I stress supporter- dares to criticise Keane there are some who just hurl abuse ! I believe Keane was a bad appointment and has caused upheaval due to his "personality/character " and his tactics and/or lack of .

A New manager always brings change & Keane was No different. Sometimes certain players take time to settle and I think this has been the case with a few of them. Colback, Delaney, Leadbetter all settled fairly quickly, Priskin & Martin have not but I expect better things from them next season - you do not become a bad player or Manager overnight it just sometimes take time. I realise Manager's are on a time Limit and the job is results driven but to do anything rash after one season is no good for anyone. I am sure Roy knows where he has made mistake's and I am sure there may be others, but let's face it KNOW ONE is perfect although we would all like to be. At the start of the season the defence was the problem but once Delaney was moved to centreback he & MacAuley went from strengh to Strengh. According to statiscs we had more shots than any other side in the championship, but we did not take them! Once the players cross the white Line it is up to them to go out a win the game and show passion for the shirt. I honestly believe that Keane will get the players he wants in this summer and we will go on from there. Lets face it there is a slim line between sucess and failure in Football.

Man alive - I'm no fan of RK but I can hardly believe the vitriol poured out towards him on here! Real fans do NOT treat the manager of the club they support like this; they may disagree with him, may not like him but to speak of him as some are on here is nothing less than disgusting and does NOTHING TO HELP the team.
ChambersM - this is a comments section, not a forum! If you want to engage in discussion with others go to the forum! A man with such a hugely inflated sense of his own importance really needs to be engaging on there.

Having read many of the posts on here I'm nearly ashamed to be a Town supporter.

But likewise. anyone who suggests that Keane should stay is dismissed as "not a real supporter" "just a celebrity follower", "might as well go and support the scum up the road", etc., even if, like myself, that fan has followed Ipswich Town for fifty years. The so-called "pro-Keaners, who in many cases are really just pro-Ipswich and pro-stability, certainly do not have the market cornered on nonsensical and dismissive posts.
I do think that, regardless of one's view of Keane as a "pre-Ipswich" celebrity, and even regardless of one's view of his Ipswich performance to date, it makes little sense and is extremely boring to keep harping on about desiring his imminent dismissal, particularly on a day when it has been made clear his departure is NOT imminent.
So I respectfully suggest you find something else to talk about or refrain from posting for a while.
