Chopra Set for Talks With Jones Friday, 11th Jun 2010 10:07
Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra reportedly plans to hold talks with Bluebirds boss David Jones regarding his future when he returns from holiday next week. Town are understood to have made an increased offer of £4 million to the Welsh club for the ex-Sunderland frontman.
Sources in Chopra’s native North-East claim the one-time Newcastle United player will meet with Jones to discuss whether he is in favour of the move to Suffolk, where he would be reunited with Roy Keane, his boss at the Stadium of Light, who helped him through his well-documented personal problems.
Keane wants to pair Chopra, 26, with 17-year-old Connor Wickham for the Blues’ 2010/11 campaign.
Town owner and chairman Marcus Evans was at the club on Wednesday and the progress of the ongoing attempt to land the former England U21 international striker will almost certainly have been discussed.
Cardiff, who have settled their £1.9 million tax debt, see Swindon’s £1 million rated Charlie Austin as Chopra’s replacement, but face competition for his signature from a number of other Championship sides, including Burnley, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.

Solly I agree with you only I think we can add Darren Bent also as a top class striker after Marcus Stweart. Really hope we get Chopra!

dont the people on here saying that £4m pounds is 2 much money 2 pay realise that thats the kind of money u have 2 pay 4 a 20 goal a season striker in this league. pay £1-2m & wot uget is nan average at best striker wholl score 10 if ur lucky. chopra is proven over a numba of seasons at this level & thus is worth the outlay. nothing guaranteed, cld fail miserably but more likely 2 succeed than 1 season wonders like priskin 4 watford or walters here.

Chopra had his leaving party at a well-known Italian restaurant in Cardiff this week. As you seem to be the only show in town( sorry for the pun) it would seem that he's on his way to East Anglia. But, needs a big man up front to play off. as a lone striker, you'll be lucky to get 10 goals from him. Worth 4m? Hmmmm....... He won't have any trouble settling in with newmarket just down the road!
IpswichElvis added 14:20 - Jun 11
You pro Keane's would be happy if he sold Priskin back to Watford for 1m and then bought him back for 5m. You would all harp on about he is building a team blah blah blah. Keane out. Chopra - stay out. I have heard there are people in Cardiff who are trying to pursuade Chopra to stay - especially his bookmaker !!!! He will be finished if Chopra leaves !!!!

@blue bird Is this true what you are writing or are you just making it up, how do you know he was having a leaving party. I for one would be delighted if Chopra was to sign but i dont get some people on here all season they moan about not having a goal proven goal scorer and then when we are supposedly close to signing one they still have something to moan about! beats me. COYB!!

IpswichElvis up your dosage, the tablets clearly aren't working
IpswichElvis added 14:48 - Jun 11
@Yallop I guess I need the pro-Keane rose tinted spectacles that you wear. Because without them, all I see is a big name manager who does not seem to have a clue. He managed to spend wads on some crap players like Priskin, Healy etc and led us to the dizzy hights of the bottom half of the table - lower than we did under Jim. And you say I need to up the dosage????? LOL

Blueknight as always you are arguing without checking your facts of what i said - last two seasons Chopra has played 65 games for Cardiff in the championship and scored 27 goals , Stead has played 62 games for us and Coventry and scored 20 goals in the same league one for a team who have been top 4 for most of that time and the other for a mid table and relegation threatened side .If you believe there is £3.5million pound difference between those players you are a bigger idiot than you sound and could not have been watching the 18 goals Stead has scored for us in the league ? He had one good half season last year upto christmas then went off the boil,9 the season before ,same as Priskin did ,same as Lisbie . Again as i said i think he would do well for us but the money is way over the top

Everybody wants to see the team succeed and score lots of goals. The problem is that money doesn't guarantee success. Spending huge amounts of money on 'proven' players doesn't always work out. A good example is Watford buying Nathan Ellington for £3.5m. A very bad move for all concerned. Ched Evans to Sheffield Utd last year for £3m. How many did he score? Sheffield Wednesday invested a huge part of their budget to bring in Francis Jeffers, and both club and player have suffered as a result. Big investment does not neccesarily mean success, just greater risk. I'm not saying RK shouldn't go for Chopra if he thinks he is the man to bring success to the club but RK has to be certain that Chopra will bring success. There can be no more speculative transfers, particularly for this sort of money.

I agree with Surco and Blueknight said. Keane out.
Blueknight85 added 15:25 - Jun 11
Surco once again you assume everything i say is about you.... the only part of my novel aimed at you was the money part The way you are comparing their goals to games to each other though and saying it is reason to not pay 4m is a ridiculous over use of time and brain power just like most statistics are.
bigfish added 15:46 - Jun 11
If we need to sell players to fund him its a risk. £4m i would not pay a penny more for him. We do not hear any one else bidding unless mistaken for him.

Funny no one else other than Keane wants to buy him isn't it??????

I find it amazing that so many people complain that Keano hasn't strengthened our front line (a justified complaint, yes), but when there is a genuine chance of acquiring a decent striker to address that very problem (albeit for a big fee) THEY STILL COMPLAIN! Some put forward a reasonable argument for why Chopra may not be the best choice, but some just seem to want to moan for moanings sake. Jeez, I really wonder about some people ... I agree with Yorkshire - too much negativity on here. I think I may just disappear for a while. COYB!!!

to get a decent striker you have to pay for it, chopra is well worth spending the money on and would form an awesome partnership with wickham. I have two major gripes atm tho, 1) keane is here whether people like it or not, so no point arguing over it. ok last season was a whole crock of poo, we all know that, but there were signs of improvement and I believe keane will get it right, he is a true winner and has played under two of the greatest managers the game has ever seen, fergie and clough. he has obviously learnt from these two managers and so will end up getting it right. 2) it amazes me how people are now singing the praises of connor wickham, these are probably the same mindless idiots who slated him or didn't rate him earlier in the season because it didn't click immediately, its pathetic. You could tell that the lad is a raw talent, he should have been given the benefit of the doubt, coz he was so young, people obv forgot that

Yorkshire & dobbie73 - I could not agree more. I am fed up with reading such negative comments about Keane. We all love Town and want them to do well and these negative comments are just boring to say the least. After putting a comment on last night I did ask myself the question - What would the negative fans anti Keane say about him if we went up next year! Would they really still slate him? Stead14 Why am I not entitled to have an opinion of Keane after over 40 years as a Town supporter, just because you don't agree with me it doesn't mean I shouldn't post on here. I don't like him, never have and never will...end of & even if we go up this season I still won't like him, but I will still support the team and continue to spend my hard earned money going all over the uk to watch them play. Grow up and learn that we are all different!!

Not sure this is a good move, alot of money to pay out, is he realy worth 4 mill? We should be looking at younger players who are a bit cheaper, like Jackson at Gillingham. His on 20k a week at Cardiff. Don't trust Roy when it comes to bringing in players. You can buy alot of players for this amount of out lay.

Blueknight85 David Johns on, Premier league reserve???? we signed him off bury and he was scoring goals for fun.... Chopra's gambling problems were not solved by keane otherwise he wouldn't be at it now, and according to some posts on the cardiff site from when the NOTW story hit, he has a bit of a reputation for trouble in cardiff.
