Celtic Closing in on Murphy Saturday, 12th Jun 2010 10:07
Celtic are reported to have opened negotiations with Sunderland regarding the signing of former Town loanee Daryl Murphy. The Blues are also understood to be keen to add the Irish international to their striking options for next season.
Murphy is said to be interested in the move to Parkhead with a fee of £1.3 million claimed to be on the table in this morning's report, a figure significantly higher than the £900,000-£1 million which is believed to be Sunderland’s valuation of the 27-year-old, who is contracted until 2012.
Glasgow Rangers and Reading have also been linked with the former Waterford United man.
Celtic are also believed to be interested in another player mentioned in connection with Town this summer, Scunthorpe’s Gary Hooper, although Middlesbrough are reported to be the favourites to land the £2 million-rated ex-Grays Athletic striker.

Not to bothered with Murphy really. If we had both Chops and Murphy our wage bill would be astronomical so it's probably for the best of the club !

I would rather we signed Murphy and Chopra and sold Stead, Pabs and Priskin all of which were totally useless for us last season, atleast Murphy had goals in him.

No better than Stead ,only came here as a last resort to put himself in shop window for summer transfer elsewhere Celtic are welcome to him . Blueknight as a left sided player what about Whittingham from Cardiff reportedly for sale for £2 million or even Ambrose both have a lot of goals about them ,as goals from midfield is just as much a problem for us as a 20 goal striker which only one team in the division had last season Bristol City ,we need goals and pace from everywhere not heap it all onto a teenage lad and £4 million new signing if it happens

Ambrose was my fisrt choice as he can play Left or right but he will either stay at crystal palace or go to QPR he is not available to us, Whitingham would be good especially as him and Chopra will know each other but will will be lucky to get one from Cardif let alone two My reasoning behind get Murph for LM is that he can play there or up front very capably thus helping to keep the squad smaller we would have Chops, Con-man,Pricescan and Smurf as options up front and smurf/Civeli as options on the left. and lets not forget when people started calling Smurf slow and lazy he was carrying an injury.... but i think he will most likely be going to Celtic anyway i only would have paid the 900,000 for him

got to agree with vexorg, who really would wnt to sign for a at the moment being a club on the way down, we all know next season is going to be a relegation battle and we may just stay up however unlikely it seems. you only have to look at the teams coming into the division, norwich and leeds united. dont think we should be worrying about tsrikers we need to get some solid defenders to keep the scores down next season.

joeippy01 you must try harder when pretending to be a town fan No one absolutely no one is worried about Norwich Leeds or Millwall next year lol one of the 3 might have a bit of luck and push for play off's but Norwich are the least likely whether they finished top or not. Town certainly wont be in a relegation fight that is so laughable lol and no one can honestly say we are a team on the down we finished very much on the up. As for not singing anyone we have to offload our 2nd rate tripe first to desperate teams.... as well as fight off competition as the players we are going for are in demand.

blueknight, you seem overly confident,we wont be anywhere near a relegation fight.Your probably right, but if no quality comes in,(and im doubting it will),i think in my humble opinion,we will be 15th or 16th,or there abouts.

Sunderland are a mickey mouse club as well. I heard today that David Healy is still being paid £55k a week at Sunderland. A very well placed source told me and if thats the case, I am surprised they aren't giving him away now!!! More money than sense!

denahmblue we can finish 16th without being in a relegation scrap....lol :P
