Town boss Roy Keane felt the 9-1 victory at Newmarket was “a decent run-out” for his side. Pablo Couñago scored three times, Owen Garvan twice and Lee Martin, Grant Leadbitter, Alan Quinn and Colin Healy once each.

Keane said: “It’s the first game, we’ve only been back about a week or so. I think it was enjoyable, I hope the fans thought so, and everyone seemed come through without any injuries.

“We wanted to give everyone at least 45 minutes and we’ve done that. It was a decent run-out.”

The Blues boss added that there had been no developments regarding players coming in or going out.

I went last night. It was actually really interesting in that you could get so close to the players (I normally sit in North Stand Upper) and with a crowd of a couple of hundred you could hear every shout and call on the pitch during the game.

First half everyone did okay except Priskin. It was painfully worring that he was easily being tacked by Newmarket Town old boys and kids! He looked the same player as last season - lethargic, lacking confidence and self-belief. He was VERY orange though so he obviously had a good holiday...

Second half Pablo looked class and was the crowd's favourite (lots of 'ole!' chants) whilst Stead missed an open goal from about 3 yards (hit the post and he laughed about it!).

Good night out, kids could get as many autographs as they wanted and all players were happy to sign. Funniest thing I saw was kids getting Newmarket Town players to sign their trainers!

Roy why not wipe the slate clean after last season and give everyone a chance to prove themselves. Don't chuck the baby out with the bath water Roy look carefully at what you have before getting rid, as new players coming in doesn't look likely & you're unlikely to get big bucks for any of the 8, if anything at all.
I said last season, we had the players, they just didn't perform as a team!!

Agree with devon; at this level its very easy to find fault with individual players, the trick is to get them all playing as a team. It s about organization and being comfortable with formations and tactics which then breeds confidence and success. In previous seasons nobody would have given teams like Blackpool and Burnley a look in for promotion and they certainly didnt spend loads on big names. Over to you Roy.

"The Blues boss added that there had been no developments regarding players coming in or going out".

That is a positive start of the campaign and I am glad that some of the transfer listed players stood well on ground. It is great that Pablo scored three but the problem with him is that can't perform as expected every match. And this is only because of him lacking pace. If he changes his thinking he still may be an asset for us. Almost the same for Garvan. Let's hope all the transfer listed start doing their job because most of them are really capable players.

Devontractorboy- Keano knows he will get no interest in most of the players he put up on the market or if there is interest then it wont be at their price tag. I believe he has put them on the transfer list to tell them to buck up and start playing to their capabilities.
