Stead Bristol City Move Off
Stead Bristol City Move Off
Wednesday, 28th Jul 2010 12:53

Striker Jon Stead is reported to have turned down his proposed move to Bristol City. The former England U21 international was due at Ashton Gate for talks yesterday with the clubs believed to have agreed a £200,000 fee.

Earlier in the summer Stead was expected to join former loan club Coventry City but that move collapsed after manager Chris Coleman was sacked.

Good news; with Wickham injured and no new striker signing on the horizon, Stead is very much needed

It does appear there are two trains of thought depending on whether you rate a player...if you like stead, he's decided to stay and fight for a place, if you don't he's decided to sit on his contract. No one knows what the thought process is from stead. It may be he just doesn't want to play for Bristol city, it may be they wanted him to take a pay cut which was too much, maybe he was told he'd be part of the squad so not better off than here,(they have other strikers) it may be that he thinks he might have a chance to prove he's worth a place in the side, it may be he thinks Keane might not last that long if things don't go well. There may be issues with moving to the Bristol area.
I would be loathed to criticise a player for wanting to stay at the club, even if I thought he was rubbish(which I don't) as that's usually exactly what fans want...i.e a player who wants to be at the club.

I like Stead...hope he stays and proves a lot of people including our inept manager wrong.

Would love to know what Marcus Evans really thinks about all this?...I reckon he's hoping Keane walks so he doesn't have to sack him and pay him off, otherwise he'd be giving him more cash to spend/waste.

The one thing that really stands out about this fiasco is that we've got 3 people at the helm (Evans,Clegg and Keane) who clearly haven't got a clue about actually running a football club properly....very worrying.
