Exiting defender Alex Bruce says he is targeting another play-off campaign with Leeds this season, having reached the top six with former loan side Leicester last season. Bruce is expected to complete a move to the Elland Road club before the weekend with a fee of £200,000, plus another £100,000 on appearances, having been agreed yesterday.

Bruce, who came close to joining Sheffield United over the weekend, said: “Having had a taste of the Championship play-offs last season while on loan at Leicester City this is what I am after again.

“Leeds — like Sheffield United — are a club that can provide that and, although automatic promotion is the aim, reaching the Premier League via a final at Wembley Stadium would be fantastic.”

The 25-year-old says he enjoyed his four seasons at Portman Road: “I’ve loved my time at Ipswich and can’t speak highly enough about their fans, and if the Leeds move comes off I will leave wishing Ipswich Town all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, former Town academy striker Craig Calver, who has recently been playing for AFC Sudbury, has joined the ex-Ipswich contingent at Yeovil. Ed Upson signed for the Glovers earlier in the summer, while Dean Bowditch made the move to Huish Park a year ago.

Chambersm- I think it was more hoping and expecting the club to take two steps forward not two steps back.
