Northern Ireland Target Wickham
Northern Ireland Target Wickham
Sunday, 15th Aug 2010 22:11

Former Norwich boss Nigel Worthington has made an audacious attempt to persuade Town striker Connor Wickham to opt to play for Northern Ireland. The Hereford-born England U17 international qualifies to play for both Ireland sides via his soldier father Stefan.

Northern Ireland manager Worthington, who watched the Blues in action against Burnley at Portman Road on Saturday, says he has already approached the Town frontman: “The question has been asked about Connor Wickham. There’s potential there, we have done our homework and offered him the opportunity to further his international career with Northern Ireland.

“Hopefully, he will follow young [Oliver] Norwood [of Manchester United] and throw in his lot with a squad he can help go places.”

Worthington appears highly unlikely to be successful with Wickham, who netted the winning goal in the final of the European U17 Championships in May, tipped to be a full England star of the future.

Can't see Connr going for that, would like to see him stick with his convictions and retain his ambitions to play for England. Just think... Wickham & Rooney leading the line at the next World Cup...

Why? He will be partnering Wayne Rooney for England in a few seasons time. Definate Info.

Would be good news for us if he opted to play for NI, at least he wouldn't be having agents constantly knocking on his door telling him he needs to be playing for a bigger and better club to be getting international caps!

Keep your options open Connor, you may end up rubbish.
Play some Under 21s for N Ire and then if you turn out good switch to England.

he will get more international experience with n ireland and more advertising his skills.plus england are not that much better than n ireland. lets face it neither have a hope in hell of winning the world cup.i reckon he should seriously take up the offer.it never harmed george best or roy keane when roy could get past his ego and actually play for the republic..go for it conner

Oh no! I've just realised if this were to happen we would have yet another irish player!

Luckily Connor is a key player for England at youth level, and i would recommend he stayed there until he must make a decision who to play for at senior level.
