Townsend: We Targeted Brucey Bonus
Townsend: We Targeted Brucey Bonus

On-loan winger Andros Townsend says his team-mates told him that former Blue Alex Bruce was likely to dive in if the Spurs man kept running at him ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leeds. Townsend took their advice and Bruce was red-carded for two bookable fouls on the 19-year-old.

Townsend said: “All the players had been telling me before the match about Brucey. They told me to keep getting at him as it would lead him to dive in.

“Luckily it worked out for us as Leeds going down to 10 men had a big influence on the outcome of the game.

“It was frightening how we galvanised after the Leeds leveller and the determination we showed to get back in front again.”

Meanwhile, Bruce had no arguments regarding his second booking once he'd had a look at the video footage after the match: “When it happened I thought I got a touch of the ball for the second yellow, but after seeing a replay I could see that I didn’t.”

Elsewhere, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly chasing Town reserve coach Chris Kiwomya’s 14-year-old nephew Alex, who is currently with Rotherham United’s youth set-up.

Souperjim .... i for one thought Bruce was an average defender but to say "anyone who thinks Bruce performed well wouldnt know good defending if it bit them on the backside " surely shows how wrong Keane got his selections last season when dropping Mac and playing and even making Bruce his captain .Are you saying Keane doesnt know good defending ?

Oi I'm no merchant. You can't argue with my last comment, even the ridiculously pro-keaners.

Bruce only ever made one good tackle. On Chadwick v Norwich at Portman Road.

He was average when played as a Centre Half butwhen out as right back he was hopeless. Always out of position and often losing his man at set pieces. I supported him as he was in a blue shirt, as I do anyone, but never believed he was a good defender.

Bruce was awesome! Not the best player technically, but wore his heart on his sleeve! At the Histon pre-season freindly this summer one of thier players 'pointlessly' smashed the ball out of play and missed me and my mates head by millimetres.. Bruces shouted at him "Why d'ya do that you effin prick!?"

Awesome!

Surco72 we're talking in hindsight, something Keane didn't have the benefit of. Also, dropping McA and relieving him of the armband turned out to be a very good bit of man management, just look at how he has performed since.
