Legends Lose at Colchester
Legends Lose at Colchester
Sunday, 17th Oct 2010 17:43

Goals from Matt Holland and Fabian Wilnis weren't enough to stop Town's Legends from falling to a 3-2 defeat to their Colchester counterparts at the Weston Homes Community Stadium this afternoon.

Tom English, Gary Bennett and Teddy Sheringham scored for the U's with Wilnis also hitting the post for the Blues.

Both sides fielded extensive squads of veterans augmented by fans who won auctions with the match raising funds for the clubs' academies.

The teams played for the Ross Crouch Memorial Trophy, which remembers the former Colchester youth player, whose father Nigel was with Town in the 1970s and whose uncle Steve Foley coached at Portman Road having previously held numerous roles at at Layer Road.

Must have been the manager's fault as we clearly had the superior squad :D

My brother went and had texted me the starting line up:

1. Hope?
2. Wilnis
3. (David) Gregory
4. (Geraint) Williams
5. McGreal
6. Osman
7. Pryke ?
8. Holland
9. Wark
10. Whitton
11. Milton

I'm guessing Hope and Pryke were supporters who won the auction?

Went to the game 1,600 decent gate. Pryke was a supporter, but no idea who Hope was. Guess that Laurie Sivell was busy!

I don't think our goalkeeper could be classed as a legend. He looked about 12! Still, it was good entertainment. Well worth the entrance fee.

Yeah I was a bit gutted kiwomya and co didn't play you're right we were all over them second half and could have won the game if we had that little bit of extra quality up front Dnt know why kiwomya didn't play coz I saw him after the game in the bar upstairs speaking to steve whitton and milts

I missed the game, but from what I gather the keeper was Nick Pope of Bury Town, former academy schoolboy keeper with Town.

town only looked good cause colchester put the bellys 11 on second half ,usual pace from whitton and williams, sheringham pulling the strings as usual but hit post from 10cm ,keane could do with wilnis and his step overs and hollands still quality .colchester tucked ipswich up giving david gregory to them all col u play in first half was joe dunne and paul abrahams against gregs good game decent crowd why cant town get a big screen like col u instead of our zx spectrum scoreboard
