Norwich Derby Moves
Norwich Derby Moves
Thursday, 28th Oct 2010 15:16

The Blues’ home East Anglian derby with Norwich City has moved to Thursday 21st April with a 7.45pm kick-off having been previously set for the following day, which is Good Friday.

Town say the switch was agreed with Suffolk Constabulary after concerns about the additional costs and travel issues related to playing the game on a Bank Holiday.

In addition, some fans were unhappy at the match being scheduled for the religious holiday, while the game would also have impacted on the Ipswich Witches’ traditional Good Friday meeting.

A Town spokesperson said: "For fans of both clubs, the derby games are the most important fixtures of the season and we feel that bringing the game forward to miss the Good Friday holiday period gives the supporters of both clubs the best opportunity of being at Portman Road for what we are sure will be a great occasion.”

hang on.. why do weekend derbys have to be moved to sunday 12pm usually (we were allowed 1pm this year) because we apparently cant behave ourselves, yet we can all go to the pub after work and safe in the knowledge that theres no work the following day for the thursday game?

i like the move in this case but it still shows what a joke these sunday kick offs are when there are no trains etc either

and one final point, why can we not have 8pm kick offs to allow those travelling a little bit of leeway to arrive? Reading away was so much less hassle despite only being 15 minutes later..

Have the police been consulted on this??? I'd be surprised, although I expect they'll be calling a strike to complain about the cuts!

Atmosphere should be crackerjack - just depends on how much Jack minds getting crackered!

Stupid decision. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, they then move it to Good Friday, and now it's Thursday night. Surely it would have been easier for all concerned to leave it as a Saturday ko, regardless of the fact we are playing Swansea on Easter Monday.

Agree with PortmanLen if it's to reduce costs on the Friday, then the Swansea game on the Monday is a bank holiday, so double time for the plod anyway. I never understand cramming games into a bank holiday weekend, keep it to the saturday only & play a normal midweek game the following week, plod costs down, profit up for Town to buy a new striker with!!!!

Probably keep the home and away supporters in the ground for 15 minutes after the match to allow 'plod' to trot off home in safety!!!

game would impacted on speedway meeting!!...oh yes...i would have been distraught at missing a load of bikes going round a dirt track...on another note..cant believe the police have allowed this...you will have two sets of lads (shall we say)..on the beer all day...with the police having to show a presence throught out the whole day....should be a interesting day!!...on a lighter note..a local derby with a evening kick off should be cracking...lets hope theres something riding on the game, other than bragging rights..

I just wonder what constraints the rozzers will put on the pubs that day. I believe under the current licensing laws they might be able to force all pubs in locality to shut at say 3pm and not open again till 10? Then again that could leave a lot of beered up people with nothing to do for a few hours which may lead to even more problems? Certainly will be interesting. If however it does pass off without too many problems then perhaps there will be more chance of games not being moved to Sunday lunchtimes in the future
