Keane Pleased With Home Draw
Keane Pleased With Home Draw
Monday, 1st Nov 2010 09:59

Town manager Roy Keane was pleased to be given a second successive home draw in the Carling Cup, but for the moment is concentrating on the Blues’ league campaign rather than the quarter-final against West Brom.

Keane said: “We’re pleased with the home tie, of course we are. West Brom are a very, very good team and sent some of their squad players to Leicester and won 4-1 [in the last round].

“They turned us over comfortably last year and they are a lot, lot stronger than they were then. But that’s four or five weeks away, that’s a long, long time in football and I’m sure a lot will happen between now and then.”

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo is similarly concentrating on the league: "It’s nice to be in the quarter-final, it’s going to be another nice cup game, hopefully an exciting one, but that’s in the back of my mind."

The tie is expected to be confirmed for Wednesday 1st December with the Blues in action on the Sunday in the derby at Norwich City, which is being shown live by the BBC.

If you had to lose one of the two games - nodge or brom - which one would you choose?

Brom - No hesitation!

I'd actually say Nodge as a QF win gives us 2 more games in the SF. And it's not as though we're going up or down in the league this season...

I have never seen so much emphasis quoted ....

"West Brom are a very, very good team ..."
"... they are a lot, lot stronger than they were then ..."
"... that's a long, long time in football ..."

Lol, I guess Keano was making a bit of a point! Either that or the article author has a finger stutter *AHEM*

Glad of another home tie - been a bit thin on the ground recently. Let's hope for a slightly better turnout than the 13,000 we got against the Cobblers .... come on people, this is totally winnable!

COYB!!!!!!!!!!

This game is winnable if you look when we play WBA at home we do well and the players they put out against Leicester are ok but still beatable, let hope we can win both Narrrrwich and WBA and then get into the SF and then off the wembley

I thought it would be the week after as the Carling Cup site says:

'w/c 29th November 2010 and w/c 6th December 2010 (depending on European involvement)'

Considering there are no European games in w/c 29th Nov I assumed it meant games will be in w/c 6th Dec unless they are playing in Europe, in which case they will be played the week before (w/c 29th Nov).

Please tell me I'm right as I have a gig on 1st Dec!

Lose one-nil to Nodge, beat West Brom for a semi-final place and then tonk Nodge 10-nil at PR.

WBA will comprehensibly stuff us ! Thats why Id rather have played someone like Arsenal and get stuffed by them =- at least we'd have seen some class players

Er Sven the w/c 29th November means playing on the Tuesday 30th or Wednesday 1 December. As we play Norwich on the Sunday we will play WBA on the Wednesday. Simple stuff.

So why does the carling cup website mention w/c 6th December?

I cannot see Ipswich getting anything from this game. West Brom are flying in the Premier League at the minute and realistically, nobody should expect anything rather than a defeat. There are NO easy draws except for the other teams to draw us !!! There is a gulf in quality and that unfortunately is going to show in this game.

I also think that Norwich scum will beat us too. Could be a bad week but it may mean that Keane gets the boot !!!

Wanted man utd at home but with westbrom we have got a good chance at home. If we was away i would not see us winning it.

Sven, I think you'll find that the regular week for these ties is the one starting 29th Nov and that the following week can be used by sides that have Europa league games ..

.. in this case no-one, so all ties should be played on 30th Nov or 1st Dec and, as SectionedSix points out our Sunday game vs the Scum means that we will likely go for a Wednesday 1st Dec game against the Baggies

Thanks for the clarification Vexorg, I only checked the Champions League fixtures and they are w/c 6th which confused me, I thought they played Europa and CL fixtures in the same week :s

So do I go to Norwich to watch Volbeat or stay in Ipswich to watch Town :s:s:s:s

I don't know Volbeat but it sounds appealing ..
