Keane Disappointed With Defeat
Keane Disappointed With Defeat
Saturday, 13th Nov 2010 18:32

Town manager Roy Keane was understandably disappointed with his side's 3-1 home defeat to Barnsley. In addition to the loss, Mark Kennedy and Luke Hyam damaged their hamstrings and are out of next week’s trip to Hull.

Keane said the game typified how things are at the present time: “Poor result, poor performance, not a great day and a couple more injuries. That’s the way it’s going for us. No sympathy, we’ll look to bounce back next weekend.”

The Portman Road crowd booed their team off and were vocally critical of the substitution of Tamás Priskin, something the Blues boss feels is inevitable when a team is doing poorly: “When you don’t win matches every decision is going to be analysed and criticised, that’s the nature of football.

“They were pretty supportive last year when we went 14 games without a victory - the Watford game I’ll never forget - they were very, very good to us. But at this moment in time, you’re still hoping that fans would understand where we’re at.

“Don’t underestimate the loss of Gareth McAuley, David Norris and Grant Leadbitter. I don’t want to use that as an excuse but they are important players for us. We just have to get on with it.”

Keane explained the thinking behind his substitutions: “We thought we’d get a bit more from Jack and Jake getting a bit more forward. They’re two young players and it’s a big responsibility doing a job in the middle of the park, so with the extra support from Luke we thought we might get back into it.

“But, of course, the next goal changed things and we tried to mix it up again. We tried a few different things and it just didn’t work.”

Keane's controversial decision to withdraw Priskin was amongst those alternative options: “When we took Tamás off we changed it with Connor going up with Ronan and actually I thought they did OK in the last 20 minutes. OK, they’re young players and you could say the game was over.

“Obviously there were a few people disappointed and they probably thought we were going to stick with the one up front, but of course we changed that with Jack coming over to the left and I thought Ronan did quite well and was perhaps unlucky not to score. It was a straight swap in that sense."

Tykes manager Mark Robins was delighted with his players’ display: “It was without doubt the best performance since I became Barnsley manager and it was a continuation of what we saw on Tuesday night against Preston.

“The players took the confidence they gleaned from that game into today. We passed it well, the movement was fantastic and what we added today was our finishing. It's a step in the right direction and pleasing.”

No tactical awareness.
No contacts in the game.
No ability to motivate.
No progress in 18 months.
Surely time for him to go?

I turn on the radio, I switch on the telly, I read the papers. I stay up till half past eleven to watch the 45 highlighted seconds that the BBC managed to cobble together and hear Claridge and co talk about my club. Roy Keane's Ipswich this....Roy Keane's Ipswich that...And now to Portman Road where Roy Keane's Ipswich Town...Roy Keane's Ipswich Town have equalised....Did we change our name to Roy Keane's Ipswich Town?

Keane's time is up. He has to go now, results are just not good enough and the players that he has to work with have all been signed by himself.

i really cannot believe after this week there is actually ne1 on here who thinks keane shld stay. he simply hasnt got a clue, either tactically, or frm a motivational point of view. he tell the players after tuesdays defeat that theyre not gud enuf,so how he expect them 2 perform 4 him 2day is beyond me. shld have been trying 2 get their heads up after that match, not totally demoralising them. yes, we had players out 2day but does ne1 really believe barnsleys line up was better than ours. no, it was down 2 poor tactics(again), & theres no point me mentioning tps substitution, we all know how wrong that was. time 2 go mr keane. go & ruin sum1 elses club, not ours.

Does anyone else find it ironic that after Keane told us during the week that he is not looking for a right back (when we do not have a right back at the club!) that all Barnsley's goals today came down their left?

I agree about supporting young players, but how is Keane supporting some of them...

- Eastman and Smith regularly played out of position at full back;
- Peters often one of our best players but has hardly featured recently;
- Hyam dropped from the team after a great start to the season;
- O'Connor disappeared without trace despite being very good last season;
- Priskin being taken off despite being the best man on the pitch today;
- Young loan players coming in to replace our own youngsters.

Also, how did Murray get ahead of Wickham in the striker pecking order?

Evereyone else has already said what I was intending to say.
Lack of recognised right back today proved particularly crucial. How can Keane say he doesn't need to sign a right back after that performace? WE WERE ANNIHILATED ON THE WINGS!!! Hammill looked like a world class player!!
Team after team will now continue to exploit it....
Thats it for me. I will support the players to the hilt (we have a good squad-just players are constantly being played out of position-I feel sorry for Eastman) but Keane should go. We need some experience in charge.
O'Neill as Manager - with Wilkins as Assistant (how can Keane be so arrogant that he says he doesn't need an Assistant!!!!??)

In Keane we trust?

How about:

Under Keane we get stuffed.

With Keane we are not chuffed.

Go Keane, you really must.

Enough is enough; we're going no-where under RK. Our aspirations are promotion, to be amongst the very best in this division and we don't have the cutting edge, flair or consistency, plus RK seems to have ripped the heart out of our club. Must go. I said after Magilton went I wanted Curbs, lets get him now. Took Charlton (similar size to us) from bankruptcy and third tier and had them top 10 in the Prem season after season, (look where they are without him), didn't get sacked. Took on West Ham (similar size to us) adrift at the bottom of the Prem, turned them around, kept them up, put them mid table the following season before he left on principle about player sales - again didn't get sacked, look where they are now! Superb track record; available; realistic target; respected throughout the game, interviewed for the England job when McClaren got it. GET HIM IN!!! (Would love O'Neill as an alternative, but he wouldn't come to us, after Stoke result, may yet end up at Anfield.)

Everyone above has pretty much said it all. Time is well and truely up Keano. How much longer do we have to watch this dreadful hoofball ? It seems Keano does not want to play anyone who shows any skill - taking off Priskin will be one of those long remembered insane managerial decisions.

Walters was right
Keano is SH**E

We have 3 games on tele within the next month and after todays performance we are going to get absolutly humilated in front of the country. First its norwich away and they are a good team especially at home and were unlucky today to draw 3-3 with reading but at least they wont have grant holt unless they appeal his red card.
Then we play 2 home games against swansea and leicester. Swansea are a quality team with so much pace, creativity and lots of goals in their ranks especially when they have a quality player of the name Scott Sinclair and Leicester are in a good run of form under sven and will cause us plenty of problems.
I dont criticise the manager to much but i think Keane only has 2 games to save his job, simple as......and both these games we have to get 6 points, its going to be hard i know, but we are more than capable of beating hull and the Scum especially with the 2,400 fans we are taking down there. I was sooo disappointed with todays performance, no one knew what to do with the ball, everything was rushed and we made barnsley look an awesome team. Not sure what the substitutions were all about, Townsend and priskin were the only players who looked capable of making something happen.
By the way Jason Scotland is the biggest waste of space.....

I want us to win the next two games to try and get season back on track and i for one would rather see ipswich beat norwich then see keane get the sack.......as for managers who could replace him theres no way we would get martin o'neill, he wouldnt drop down a league....

Through this difficult patch lets try and get behind the lads and support the team we all adore....

My son ripped his Ipswich poster off the wall after this disgrace and threw it in the bin. i was gutted.
Keane out- Curbishley in.
Hull away and Norwich away. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Fulop for rb of course (yes hes not a rb but neither is eastman!)
we have never played such boring football. nice to see our old players at Palace playing so well! Used to love wright and garvan. Miss Stead, bruce, trotter and even walters too.
like Fulop. thats it of the new guns.
if he was in an office (kEANE) he would have lost his job now. He has blatantly said we don't need a rb and the next game he has shown to be wrong. its a bit like an investor saying "we don't need to sell thoses shares" and 2 weeks later the price has hit rock bottom.
we won't get o'neill he is premiership bound

Fickle lot aren't u ! Lol.. Couple of bad performances & it's the end of the world, couple of wins & were going up !. The first goal was always going to be massive, such is our confidence in front of goal at the moment, & if priskins shot had of gone in it would if changed the game & we'd all be talking promotion again. I was ashamed of our fans today .. Please please please back the team, win lose or draw.. Booing our own players, cheering the opposition .. Disgraceful, I love Ipswich town fc, but I hate our fans.. We don't sing, we've got no songs (frankly the ones we do sing are cringe worthy) we winge at every miss placed pass. Is it any wonder our players have no confidence. For the record I too can not understand the subs today, but I do see the bigger picture & have a sence of perpective .. It's a long season guys & girls.

dantown-
we will back the team- but we have had enough of the manager. our style of football is a disgrace and we have a man in charge who has an ego the size of wales.
we cheered the opposition because they reminded us of how football should be played.

dantown, how much did you pay for ticket today?
I for one paid £400 for a season ticket so i at least expect to see something worthwhile. They get paid a decent amount of money just to pass a football around and try to please the fans and entertain us but if they cant even do that why should we not be allowed to show our disappointment......after all it shows passion and frustration. if you were doing crap at your job im sure you would be told about it and not expect a round of applause.

i think a small percentage of fans have been saying the emperor had no clothes for 18 months now but were ridiculed and abused.now the blind loyal followers seem to have clicked "finally" get rid of mr keane he was useless last year he is useless this year.he had 1 good season with us when he took over the last few games with jims team he managed not to be defeated .since thenborong losing football and endless excuses.......he is clearly out of his depth get rid quick and a right manager could still get us up look at QPR and NORWICH

I have never been that disgusted & ashamed of any Town performance before. The team didn't look to have any passion or pride in wearing the shirt. The little mascot that walked out onto the pitch prior to kickoff had 10 times the passion of the team.

I was starting to think that RK was starting to move in the right direction after being given the time to build & get the best from his players. But clearly I was wrong. What is he thinking by playing Eastman as a right back, & playing only one up front at home when 2 down... Clearly does not have a clue.

The lack of signing a decent striker at the start of the season will certainly cost us promotion/playoff place. I know we are still only a little way off the playoff positions, which a couple of wins will resolve. I still don't see how Keane can turn it round from here.

Roy do the right thing & leave now to give your successor the chance to work with what you have left them & assess the areas he needs to improve with new signings in Jan.

Watching the footage on the Football League show has just angered me more & shown how bad we really were.

Dantown me old mate, are you really telling me this is what you want to watch week in week out?? My objection to Keane has always been twofold, firstly he has the man management sills of Attila the Hun & players who are not motivated do not perform & secondly he has the tactical teckkers Anne Widecombe!!
I think the time has come for Keane to go & lets hope someone can get us back to playing good football again

Dantown, I have to agree with all the previous posts. Keane has got to try to win back the confidence of fans. We support our team but have lost confidence in the Manager. If he signed an assistant (Wilkins?) and signed short term cover for right-back then most of us would be thinking he was seeing sense. As it is he seems to be delusional (of course we need a right-back!!). A little humility at this point would go a long way.....
Have to agree with our chants-they suck! Long gone are the days of "Kiwomya, my lord, Kiwomya!" Now we have "Colback,Colback give us a wave, give us a wave, give us a wave". Not so great in the middle of a match. Priskin, Gareth and Fulop deserve songs at this point (and not.."theres only 1 Tamas priskin.." lol)
Maybe we can make up a song about Eastman being a great centre-back,- it might get the idea to Keane not to play him at right.....
There is a strange song about Leadbitter out there too,-but can't make out the words.
This whole situation reminds me of a mini-Mike Bassett England manager situation.....
As before- would love to see O'Neill in charge-with Wilkins as Assistant. Alternatively I would like Keane to admit to his mistakes and make some changes to his team and staff (ASSISTANT!!!) (RIGHT BACK!!!)
The rumour mills about Dos Santos won't bare any fruit. The guy is too creative for Keanes tastes. Fear that may prove the problem with Civelli also.
Its about time O'Connor returns to the first team.....

great posts Washbrook Blue (the 21.18 one) and Borge (21.31) and as a fence sitter till now, Bobble - Emperor's new clothes starting to look accurate - I do think RK's done some good things (getting rid of some deadwood) - but his comment re not needing a RB was last straw for me given today's "performance" or rather absence of it - I do believe now that that comment was made purely to justify his premature dumping of D. Wright before we he'd secured a replacement. And subbing Priskin ...dear God ...the only thing that coulld have justified that was an injury we didn't know about ...which wasn't the case.
What brings it all horribly home is that I truly think some of our own TWTD members with coaching experience could actually have done a better job in the dugout today than RK with team selection, tactics and subs.

Thought Washbrook Blues post was excellent also-
To more positive things- who are our full-backs going to be against Hull? Kevin Kilbane is starting to recapture his form on the left-wing and Nolberto Solano looks dangerous on the right. Need to stop Koren's creativity also.....

I have always tried to stay optomistic and not jump on the managers back when we lose a game. I have also been critical of those on here that do. I do believe that as fans we should get behind the players and club win lose or draw and that 'support' should mean just that.

I fear i have to admit though that it may be best to have a change in management at this point. I so desperately wanted Keane to do well coz i loved him as a player and i believed his no nonsense approach would give our (at the time) somewhat sporadically lazy squad a kick up the arse. I think we all agree though that Keane's tactical awareness is lacking and he is making some bad decisions which is jepordising our club.

At present we are in an 'ok' position in the league and fortunes can go either way. I'm sure Keane will one day be a successful manager but i think it wrong that we should be his experimental training ground. Maybe he should learn his trade at a lower level. If we get a manager in now with a bit of pedigree and experience then this season will not be lost. If Marcus Evans really is just using Keane for PR for his brand then maybe someone should point out to him that ITFC being successful will do more for his credability than weekly tabloid crap about Keane's latest rant.

I am desperate for town to get back to winning ways. I hate to admit but i work in Budgie territory and a lot of my friends are scum supporters. At this point i am dreading the derby coz i am losing faith in Keanes decision making and i know what a ribbin i will get if we lose. A change in management to revigorate the squad and get us playing the consistent beautiful football we all want and expect might just salvage the season and get us back contending for promotion.

I don't think Keane has done all wrong here and as i have said i think in time he will be a good manager- right now though he is not experienced enough to lead our team to success.

I hope i am proved wrong and we win the next four on the trot and stuff NCFC
5-0 but some how we know that is very unlikely. What ever happens though i hope as fans we get behind the club- it was uncomfortable to hear the booing and cheering of opposition yesterday.........only consolation was norwich stuffing up a 3-1 lead!!!

When Keane joined us I was ecstatic. As a previous post says, I was looking forward to our lack lustre team at the time getting a no nonsense approach. Afriend of mine wasn't as positive. After 2 days of his appointment he was fed up with the 'Roy Keane Show'. He has been proved right.

He is not the man for ITFC and never has been.

The cheering of the Barnsley passing can only be seen as a protest to how we used to play-and how we should be playing football. The Portman Road Faithful is fed up of watching terrible, terrible football. People on here are critical of the atmosphere at PR. Q: On Tuesday when was it the loudest? A: For the ten minutes in the first half that we were actually knocking it about and having a few attempts. In my opinion, PR needs good football.

For those posters that are still pointing out that we are in a 'decent' position please take note. WE ARE NOT IN THIS POSITION BECAUSE WE ARE ANY GOOD. WE ARE IN THIS POSITION BECAUSE IT IS A POOR LEAGUE! I completlely agree with another post stating what a missed opportunity it could be this year.

Looking at Keanes tenure, what positives can we take? Yes he trimmed the squad. Shame so many of them are playing well for other teams. I can't think of anything else.

I was willing to give him the benefit at the end of last season, but when he failed to emerge for the 'lap of honour' at the last game of last season my opinion started to waver.

ME - Please replace the ego with knowledge before it's too late.

I'll pick Curbishley up myself.

But we can't just bleat on the sidelines, can we? Let's be positive. A small fund to help Mr K in his transition would help. A ticket home, map, compass and a 30 year supply of cocoa. I think that this will enable him to reflect and understand that a brilliant playing career does not guarantee managerial success.

I can add no more to the posts already here. I never liked RK, nor his style of football. I will always support Ipswich, I will post negative posts if I feel that is right. But for once everyone is behind me rather then against me. RKITdoes not play football. He cannot blame every bad performance on a different factor. I know we were 3 players short, but within all that it is the same square pegs and round holes, poor tactics and subs. JM got hung for it and so is RK and rightly so. We will be hammered by NCFC at carrot road even if the 3 return. Because they have the ability to pass the ball into our net and the players to kill our right and left backs because we do not have any.

four centre backs, for central midfielders. I mean if he could im sure he would play four central strikers if there any such thing
