Reid: Fallon Fee Agreed
Reid: Fallon Fee Agreed
Friday, 26th Nov 2010 08:11

Plymouth boss Peter Reid says Town and Argyle have agreed a fee for striker Rory Fallon’s permanent move to the Blues if the New Zealand international impresses during his period on loan at Portman Road. The 28-year-old’s initial spell runs until January 22nd.

Reid says a deal is done if Fallon proves himself: "I think there is a fee agreed, but [Plymouth executive director] Keith Todd has been dealing with that.”

The former England international midfielder says that while Fallon was not a fans’ favourite at Home Park, he was playing with an injury earlier in the season: "Roy Keane got in touch with me asking about the boy with a view to a permanent transfer.

"Rory is out-of-contract in the summer and sometimes certain circumstances dictate what happens at a football club. This is one of those times.

"I know he's not everyone's cup of tea when it comes to the fans, but he was fighting through a hernia for us at the start of the season.

"This is a chance for him to have a fresh lease of life, and if he does well it's great for him, great for us and great for Ipswich."

Fallon underwent hernia surgery in September and was out for around a month but has still managed to make nine starts and seven sub appearances this season, scoring once.

Elsewhere, Manchester City youngster John Guidetti has joined Burnley on loan. The Blues were amongst a host of Championship clubs linked with the 18-year-old Swede.

Norwich boss Paul Lambert will watch Sunday’s derby from the stands after being handed a two-match touchline ban and £2,500 fine by the FA yesterday. The Scot had pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct relating to his language and behaviour towards match officials following Norwich's recent 3-3 draw with Reading.

Good luck rory, came through englands youth teams so must have had potential! Looking at Plymouth blog he appears to have been a bit of a scapegoat so maybe needs the confidence of a fresh start. Slight concern is the general feel was he is a ball at the feet player and doesn't favour long ball tactics!!!! As for blaiming keane for stead believe it was the board who said he had to go to enable us to bring in Scotland due to high salary. I for one look forward to cheating u on in a town shirt, let's hope those so called fans ate not on your back too quickly!!!

Maybe we should have a womble as our first team mascot? Afterall, we seem to be turning more into Wimbledon day-by-day.
Lots of people had heard of Mariner when he came from Plymouth,in fact he was considered a revelation
Not happy with the fact that we seem to accept that long-ball/targetman football is the way forward. Much happier when the ball was on the ground rather than the hopeless punts forward that we do these days. Its boring, boring, boring and will be no surprise to Norwich as they know what tactics we are going to use.Its not long before opposition fans start to sing "Boring,Boring Ipswich,Boring,Boring,Ipswich"
Aaron Ramsey, now thats a signing.Hate to say it but this guy isn't.He's finished at plymouth, the boards say he isn't good enough and at one point fans wanted Kevin Lisbie in to replace him to improve the squad! I hope he scores on Sunday, but the guy really needed an exit strategy from Argyle. The fans the last few weeks (especially against Dagenham) were singing songs about him "Your not fit to wear your shirt" etc. The guy was desperate to leave, and must have thought Xmas had come early when we came in for him (considering the other team that showed interest was Darlington!!!).Looked on the Darlington boards, they didn't want him!!!

Fair comments on here. How many of you will jump up cheering/clapping if he manages to bag the winner on Sunday?

Good luck to Rory and Zuiverloon for Sunday. I wouldn't have chosen Rory Fallon meself, I'll be honest, but then as Roy says, what do I know about football? The bloke just could be the missing piece in the jigsaw.

I'd have liked Simon Cox or Tudgay if it was me, or Jermaine Easter or Daniel Sturridge for a bit of speed. Rory strikes me as another Alan Lee type, although more mobile and better on the floor. I'd have been tempted by pace 'cos we've got none up front. Still, clubs don't fancy loaning pacy players out, do they?

I still can't work out whether or not RKeaneisaGod is taking the mick.

As critical as I am of the manager's performance, I desperately hope both the new loan signings work out, we hit the scum for 6 on Sunday on national TV and plough on to a play-off place. I understand the reservations some fans have about Fallon and on paper he seems a somewhat questionable signing, however, now is not the time to pass judgement on whether he will be a success for us. Let's at least see him kick a ball first.

Saw him play at Swansea quite a bit...a decent enough player at league 1 but not a goalscorer.

To say i'm confused at the moment is an understatement...if we lose this weekend then surely that must be the end of Keane but why are we letting him bring in new players if he's apparently on his way out?

This signing says to me what it's said all along about Keane and not just here but at Sunderland too...a case of him not being able to get anything out of one batch of players so he has to bring in some more..and then some more etc etc...any idiot could go into management if that's our policy.

Good luck Rory...Goodbye Roy (hopefully)

Great, just read on EADT that Wickham is now also out for two weeks after getting injured in the ressies this week (probably hence why we signed Fallon)

Good one, clever idea to use him in a reserve game in the week before the derby!

Bit of a strange one this.

Get the right back makes sence, However why have we signed a forward with a strike rate no better than the strikers we have now.
We are not scoring goals!!!!!!
Wish they would give Wickham and Priskin a chance together up front.
Wickham has been put in cotton wool for most of the season, he is doing the business for England so surly he is ready to play 6 or 7 games from the start.

Going back to Fallon I hope the lad does well and he may not be the 20 a season man but he may bring to the club something that helps a Priskin or Wickham/Scotland to become 20 a season man.

Good Luck to him and I have to say feel a little easier going in to the Norwich game

Fallon should be highly motivated with the prospect of a new contract and a move back to championship on offer if he does well!

Hopefully his energy will rub off on the other players and lift everyone.
However he had an operation in September and was out for a month, is he fit to play in a high intensity derby game? Also Peter Reid raises questions about his attitude "not every ones cup of tea".

Wikipedia already have him down as an Ipswich player!
Rory has also played with Chuck norris at Plymouth and with Tommy Smith at the WC + WC qualification.

Lets hope that as a target man Fallon can actually jump as its quite clear that Stead couldnt, Priskin cant and Wickham wont, i hope he silences the doubters however to me it seems like a desperate signing but i hope it works out for him. Good shout further back from someone saying about why couldnt we get Ramsey or even Tudgay on loan, i say Ismael Miller as he doesnt seem to get anywhere near WBA starting lineup.

COYB!!

Lightningboy, I think that the reason Keane is being allowed to do this could be that they are both short term loanees. The RB position was a no brainer for the fans and RK has eventually agreed (possibly in the light of Eastman injury) and Fallon could be for a number of reasons such as cheap, lack of Ipswich goals, Wickham injury.
Keanes last stand IMO. A poor display and defeat at Carrot Road and his time is hopefully up, if Town win then it will delay his axing possibly. M.E. maybe lining someone up as we speak to follow on from the match against Naaarwich (as JM's dismisal).
Although I (like you Lightning) will be pleased to see Keane gone I am not being to negative on these players (particularly RB) as we are in serious danger of being thumped by the Scum so anything to stop this happening would be good.
COYB turn up the heat for Sunday!

Dont any of you realise that a lot of these players in the top flight will not come to ITFC because it is " out in the sticks " with no shops or life !!!! At the moment CW is not showing his best for us and needs game time to get back to his best , playing can cause injuries , and learning that club needs are more important than internationals at his level ! The injury to CW has saved us playing some of the game on sunday with only 10 men as he has a tendency to collect silly bookings and they will frustrate him to get him sent off !!! Maybe Rory will find the supporters here a bit more friendly and let him settle before judging him ( as he seems to have had a bad time early season with injuries ) on say-so from our moners twins in Plymouth !

we have agreed a fee already i thought that the idea of a loan signing was to see how good he was and then consider making a move for him not the other way around. :/

Very well said LEGEND, you are absolutely spot on regarding some of our fans ! I find it incredibly difficult to imagine why they bother at all if they are so unhappy with everything.

Fallon seems to be a target man and good in the air, I think he will give us something different but it does seem to be a desperate signing when players like Tudgay & Ramsey were available.

We have got to give Rory a chance. I'm sure he will raise his game higher than ever before. I'm sure he will relish the chance to play for a big championship club as well. As long as he give 100% and can score a few if he is given the oppurtunity we can ask for much more. Could be a good bit business!!!

You know, I remember a few years ago we signed a non-scoring, injury-prone centre forward on loan from a League 1 club and there were the same negative posts then that there are now. I remember well 'cos I wrote one of them. The player's name was Shefki Kuqi - he didn't turn out so bad, did he?
I'm not guaranteeing Fallon will be the same, but sometimes a player just has to be in the right environment and maybe Portman Road will be that for him in a way that Home Park never was.
The important thing is he is an Ipswich player, so let's get behind him and the rest of the team, not just on Sunday, but at every game.
0

roytheboy added 16:18 - Nov 27
Absolutely correct MANIC BLUE I was at Watford when Shefki came on after half time for his debut and he scored his first goal for us not too many minutes later, Jim Magilton went on to score the winner with a lob over the keeper, how I wish we had kept the Kuqi and Bent combination, we seem to have been generally disappointing up front ever since they moved on.
