Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Sunday, 28th Nov 2010 16:29

Town boss felt his team was made to pay for poor decision making after the 4-1 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road. Keane refused to criticise referee Keith Hill for Grant Holt’s controversial first goal or Damien Delaney’s red card just before half-time.

Keane said: “Poor decision-making and giving teams a helping hand has cost us. It was a long second half and it was very hard for us to get back into it. We took a bit of a gamble in the last 15 or 20 minutes and we opened the door to conceding more goals.

“It doesn’t matter what I think about the sending off. Let’s not waste our time and energy talking about whether there was cover, whether he actually pulled him back, the ball should have been cleared, simple as that. Same for the first goal.

“I’m not going to sit here and question the officials, there’s been enough of that over the last few weeks from other managers and other countries.”

The Blues boss felt his players made it difficult for themselves: “In any game of football, whether you’re a professional or an amateur, you’ve got to do the basics right and we didn’t do that today, whether that’s for the first couple of goals or the sending off. You make it very hard for yourself.

“At 2-1, even though we’d gifted two goals away, I think we were very much in the game. It was pretty open, they were causing us problems, but I thought we’d be OK. But then there was the sending off not long before half-time.

“We’re not good enough to be giving away goals like that and to be playing with 10 men. We’ve not won the last few games with 11.

“With 10 it wasn’t impossible because at 2-1 we were keeping it tight and trying to nick something on the break or from a set piece, but it wasn’t to be.”

Keane admits that he’s under pressure after four successive defeat and with the Blues having dropped to 16th but says it comes with the territory: “When you lose matches, it creates pressure but that comes with the job. You know that when you come into it and you’ve got to deal with it.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert was delighted with Canaries hat-trick hero Grant Holt: “I thought Grant was unplayable at times. I thought him and Chris Martin were a handful right from the off and when those two play the way they can do, we’ve always got a chance.”

It is embarrasing that HOLT got 3 past town, the fat tache faced winker. And for those of you that thought we had a chance at 2-1 down with 10 men, at Carrow Road (Keanish), reality check please! You mentioned it in previous post about passion, desire and commitment lacking. There in is your answer.

If Keane is sacked (highly unikely) half the team walks also. To rebuild halfway through a season, with a sliding team, who is gonna take that on, Curbs? I think not.

Now have seen it all 2-1 down defender sent off how do we get back into the game, take off Scotland bring on a defender to protect our 2-1 defeat great. Go back to one up front where we score all of our goals. If we where winning 2-1 and had a forward sent off would we take off a defender and replace him with a forward with over 50mins left ??? Mr RK thinks this is how the game is played but as supporter's we no nothing. Where is Peters, Townsend.

i feel that both priskin and norris had good games today. Priskin really started brightly down the right linking up with edwards and did cause them a few problems and even put a good shift in on his own up top once down to 10 men.
Norris was again solid in midfield and works so hard to get the ball back when the other team are in possesion and especially when after the game he came over to us and held his hands up and said sorry, i thought that was really good of him even though it should have been delaney who should have apoligised for losing us the game.

Clegg needs to offer him this new contract or someone is going to nip in and get him. I dont know why people keep saying keane out because he isnt going to get sacked and we will just let his contract run out.

Look, anyone who was there or watched the game will have seen in my opinion the worst Town side since our relgeation from the PL. And anyone who says you can't blame keane is deluded. He picks the team, he develops them throughout the week, both mentally and phyhsically. He clearly has got it wrong, severely wrong.

Worst defeat to Norwich since our relegation from the PL in 95. That's all you need to know. It'd be forgiveable if the team had been playing well throughout the season but we've now lost 4 straight and are languishing in the bottom half.

I don't care about "we are only a few points of the play-offs" and "he needs time etc". He's had his time, he's had his chance and he has done FOCK ALL with it!

He has wasted this clubs money and is relying on loan players to fill the gaps.

Keane out, simple as. Now. Not in a week, not after WBA, NOW.

Loan players don't go back to the club when a manger loses his job. It's the decision of the new manager coming in Prawn. Are you suggesting it's better for Keane to see out his contract!?

You say, 'Carrow Road', like it's a fortress. I didn't say we had a chance, i said a game is never over at 2-1 with 45 minutes left to play. I don't think we had a chance because of the state of the way we're playing at the moment. A manager coming in now is a perfect start for them. Losing 8 in 10 is a record that can hardly be worse so why wouldn't someone take that challenge to better on?

For those of you wanting Curbs in you must be bonkers.
The bloke took years and years to get Charlton up and messed up West Ham!
And do you honestly believe that M. O'Neil will come here!!!!! Not a chance in hell.
Evans will not sack Keane. he does not give a stuff about us fans, he is in it for the money and thats all.
We must be the only football club in the whole of the UK that has a owner that nobody knows who it is!! Thats the problem, the club stinks from the top down!

Zuiverloon & Scotland looked to have something about them, love the disappointment in Zuiverloon's face when subbed. Worth every penny of the 3m WBA want for him.

Long been a supporter of Keano, but FFS what was he thinking today! Made as many mistakes as the back line, as a plus Smith continues to grow and develop. Oh how we're missing Macca, with

Zuiverloon, Smith, Macca, Kennedy

in a back 4, we'd be solid but it's not going to happen for some time.

COYB.

Not sure sacking Keano is the way ahead, but last week I was sure it wasn't !

He has the lost fans support and looks like he has lost the players as well. Showed his true tactical nouse today in all its glory. Where is Townsend? and to bring on Alan Lee mk II. If we sign Fallon permanently it will really show how much progress we have made.

2 things today we saw which we will never do under Keane:-
1. Score 4 goals at home
2. Have a crowd of 26,000

To see Lambert's passion from the stands compared to Keane says it all.

Can't see how he will get the players back with him now and given we are 4 points from third bottom is a worry.

The majority of fans gave him the benefit last season but we have got worse. Bringing back Colback and not playing Townsend has caused a total unbalance.

10 points from 36 and 3 wins from 12 is just not good enough.

I stand by comments on bringing in Curbs and Holland or O'Driscoll. Don't understand where the negativity comes from on Curbishly. Just look on Wiki to see what he did at Charlton and what he did to keep West Ham up and where they were when he left?

At home on saturday and can't see no more than 16,000 there. Those who are there (I will be) need to show their feelings if our so called manager still has a job.

Three changes to the team and three players out of position, not bad by Keane's standards today! When things went wrong who did he turn to: a £75K signing who has never played well for Ipswich, but maybe he would come good in a local derby? How did Healy get ahead of O'Connor, Peters, Livermore, Townsend etc?!

Ipswich's defence was changed four or five times during the match and as others have said Edwards at right-back was a total joke.

Clegg looked miserable, so are we. KEANE OUT!

decision making did cost us ,the worst being the decision to sign you as manager Keane, people have been screaming that since you set foot in Portman Rd .NOW YOU HAVE TO GO .

prawnsandwich added 19:44 - Nov 28
TO Keaneish - Alot of the players came here to play for the famous Roy Keane, not the famous ITFC, sadly. It is only my opinion that a new manager would not want half the players Keane has brought into the club, and the other half will want to go, it could be a right mess.

But its a right mess now, right!!

I thought after we scored today, we played some decent football, albeit for 5-10 minutes, you could see that confidence grew 100%, the sending off killed that instantly.

We are lost without McAuley at the back, FACT! Unfortunately he is such a key player, sooner back from injury the better.

Apart from two schoolboy mistakes by O'Dea, the second not steeping up and playing Holt offside, and a schoolboy mistake by Delaney, all of which Keane could do nothing about, up to the sending off we were playing some decent football and making chances.

After half-time as the game wore on, Keane then started to make his usual 'unusual' substitutions.

Where is O'Connor?????? Certainly as good or better than O'Dea.

Any suggestions on who will play on Wednesday? Not many to pick from!

i thought even after we went one down we were playing the better stuff, we were knocking it about well and showed glimpses of the quality our players have. sending off at 1-2 ofc was the turning factor, never been a red imo but i can understand how the ref gave it. fact it though it wasnt a scoring oppurtunity, delainy was practically inline with other defenders so he wasnt the last man. defending whole game though was shocking!! and dont get me started on Brown coming on towards the end...better to of given luca some minutes. more unusual substitutions.

Jesney_havoc, I wish it was as simple as that. Sad I am, yes. Angry, Oh yes especially that too. Disillusioned, frustrated, miserable, dying inside, all these as well. Losing 4-1 to Norwich is just like taking a cheese grater to my liver. It is too painful for words. I love this club - with a passion and it hurts to see the the way it is having its soul sucked out of it.

Those of us who have been privileged to see an Ipswich team side by side with the best in Europe will understand how low we have sunk and the depth of the abyss we are looking at. Promotion (if we ever get it) on RK's terms is never going to restore the wellbeing we enjoyed before in the eyes of the general football world.

They say the means justify the ends. Currently we have the worst of all possible scenarios. Neither the means nor any sign of an end which anyone desires.

While it's not a god given right to win, our record of 2 wins in 10 is unacceptable and we are entitled to forthright explanations as to when this slump will end and what action will be taken to bring it to a halt. Otherwise we will be relegated; simple as.

The writing is on the wall. Please take the time to read it.

Agree with Keaneish because at the end of the day how can things be much worse right now?

I dont think anyone is overly bothered at who it is we get in right now, its more that we get rid of this Irish clown. Keane has had such a variety of excuses this season. From blaming individual errors, to blaming us the fans.

Your time has come you stupid arrogant clueless mug. Get out of this football club before you make it worse.

Wickets added 19:59 - Nov 28
Simple if troy brown is your only right sided centre half you play him, what you dont do is play a left sided player there.Sorry Roy we are going backwards under your management,

prawnsandwich - I dont think in some ways that would be a bad thing if certain players did leave. After all its quite clear that Roy Keane does not have many friends in management. He is well known as being arrogant, difficult and unreasonable.

We liked that when he first came because we thought he'd bring some grit into this side. But it hasnt happened, he's lost the plot and isn't being helped by fellow managers to bring in the best players.

So long as we are agreed that Keane needs to go then so be it. But my problem with Keane is signing players like Colback at the time that he did. It was pretty bizarre dont you think? Signing a central midfielder when we were screaming for a change at RB or LB or upfront? I'm a big fan of Colback but I feel sorry for the fella. He's had to play out of position and join a team that to be honest was doing fine with Townsend.

Keanes and idiot, clear off.

Got our tickets for Wednesday, but just looked at the IT on-line ticket purchase site and it looks like my grandson, my son and myself and a few others are the only ones going to be there.

Thousands of seats are still to be sold. (I am not surprised at the prices)

Anyone else going?

Legend - Curbishley saved West Ham from relegation winning 8 of the last 10 of that season and then took them to mid-table the next season so how did he mess them up? They're still in the premier league! It did take him 6 years or so to get Charlton into the prem but that was when he was a new, young manager, i'd like to think in the 20 years he's learnt a bit more than he knew in his first 5 years.

With championship play-off and promotions, premier league relegation battles, premier league establishment and european ventures on his CV...he gets my vote.

One thing to do first though Marcus.

Think the comments questioning Evan's commitment, motivation and intentions for the club are way off though.

i cant put into words how humiliated i feel right now,it can only get worse though as i have to walk into work tomorrow and face the gloating inbred scummers that i have to work with. Why is it that when we are live on the bbc we always manage to embarrass ourselves in front of an international audience.Hoping for a few positives this week to help forget this mega shameful day.
