Keane: I'm Not Walking Away
Keane: I'm Not Walking Away
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 11:25

Blues boss Roy Keane says he hasn’t thought about walking away from Portman Road despite the current poor run of form which has seen his side drop to 18th in the Championship. The Town manager spent some a few days in Manchester earlier this week reflecting on the Blues’ woes.

With no sign of the beard which was noted in the wake of the Preston game on Saturday, Keane said he hadn't considered leaving Portman Road during a couple of days back in the North-West: “I’ve not thought about packing it in.

"Sometimes I think you need to step back, we all do that and I’ve done it before. You step back, recharge your batteries and look at something from a different angle.

“People think it’s about being on the training pitch, but sometimes not about being on the training pitch. You’ve got to step back from it.

“I had a couple of days with one or two good friends from outside football in Manchester, even away from my family. I think they enjoyed the break from me, it works both ways.”

Keane, who says it's irrelevant whether he has spoken to owner Marcus Evans in recent days, considers himself lucky to be at a patient club like Ipswich, with other managers having been sacked more quickly elsewhere, but admits that eventually that patience will run out: “You can’t keep losing football matches.”

Bluelady, maybe he already has signed!
At least Keane hasnt resorted to smashing up tactics board or slapping players across the head, not yet anyways.

The owner seems to back Keane and he has plans to bring more players in during Jan. Looks as if he is here to stay for the next few months. Some good performances and 6 points from next two home games could turn it all around.

The players can't play for RK. They may WANT to, but the underlying negativity means they have NO IDEA what he wants from them. Which is no way to treat athletes. This reflects on supporters who feel unhappy, sometimes without knowing why.
O'Neill is our next preferred manager, I'd say, 4 weeks from now, to help us become whole again.

I support Keane, and may he succeed at our club and stay for life! It's quite obvious who's the tossers here. I think you should go home and milk your cows!

Dear Roy,

Please reconsider this.

Kind regards.

I hope Roy stays and turns things around, if he didnt want to be here and fight for it he would have walked a long time ago with all the cr@p he has had to put up with. Give him some funds in Jan for a striker and mid fielder and we are up the table.

know what i have been very negative about keane lately, BUT all i will say he is a born winner, he has walked in the past where he thought he could not change things. He clearly things he can turn it around here, so maybe, just a very tiny wheeney outside maybe he can?? Must be all the christmas spirit getting to me!

he has already bought two strikers, Priskin ans Scotland and isn't getting the best out of them, what makes you think that buying another one will change anything. Its his tactics and team selection that is wrong.

Scotland and Priskin would get into most other Championship sides and score goals.

He has a great attacking midfielder in Townsend but has him on and off the field, on the bench - another player he doesn't seem to know how to get the best out of him.

It must be getting near match day again, the idiots have been let out again, predictions of wins and goalscorers, have you lot forgotten last week already, our team has been consistently crap for weeks, what has changed, nothing, dream on it will be more of the same from our useless manager and his underperforming apologies for players, they are in the comfort zone, just drawing the money, just when did you last see any fight ! rubbish !

Apparently the money that could have been used to pay Roy off has been used to buy Rory Fallon and pay him 50 grand a week. Townsend is being sent back to Spurs because he is useless and Leicester are gonna loan Priskin in time for saturday. Scotland has fallen out with Keane and joined the Lisbie gang because he dont wanna play leftback and Ipswich have just paid the final 5 million instalment to Huddersfield for taking Rhodes off our hands.
Please Roy Keane f..k off and to all the numpties that think he will still come good what i have written previously is really true and everything looks promising!

I hate to say it but until Keane goes I'm not sure I care anymore... I'm surprised he hasn't had us change to a green kit.

He is not ''DESTOYING THE FOOTBALL CLUB'' we are all entitled to opinions but some of your comments are so narrow minded. Ok the team are out of form, so what? There is a long way to go as yet, judge him come end of the season. I would stick with him personally until he gets it right. Rome wasn't built in a day.

No real surprises there. Can anyone on here - hand on heart - say they would walk away from 7 months pay if they were to be sacked? Nope. Didn't think so.

As it's a number of years ago but were we not near the bottom of the table the year we went up under Burley at Christmas? So it could be turned around, who knows what is going on at the club, I think Keane is taking a lot of flak for the players. yes the formations and subs could be in question, but truthfully week in week out do you think those players are really giving 110%? Hopefully the club getting behind Keane may improve the performances on the pitch. Sometimes players play to get rid of the manager, it has happened at our club before so you never know the impact of the ME statement, it could be quite positive.

Everyone thinks they are a football manager, but only one man has the Ipswich job, and he doesnt even need the money, so ask yourself this, why is he still there? does he need the stress? no he is he a proud man and wants us to get successful.

So lets take it a large number want him out, but give him credit a number of players being injuried have caused us great harm.

So on Saturday lets not get at Keane but support the team, sing and back the Town.... who cares if Keane is in or out, lets support the team and try and get a win...thats what we all want....

bobble i have been a big critic of roy keane the last couple of weeks and also being a youth coach myself sometimes you have to take a step back and reflect on things sometimes you have to make decisions that you may not really want to do so come on give the man a break and get off his back at least he really does see it from the real world and is not hiding from his downfall

bluelady added 23:01 - Dec 16
hollotosh well said. I have given him a really hard time too, i question his tactics, team choices etc, but we must remember this is not a witch hunt, we will not make any differance to if he stays or if he goes so i think the important thing is to get behind the team and try to raise them - cause if we get on their backs we are only helping to create the downfall of this club, bit of a pot calling the kettle really.

The thing is Dorsetblue,I truly believed in George Burley - believed that he was doing his best for our club and not himself & that he wanted us to play football the right way..I have not one ounce of belief in Keane to do those 2 basics..

Why do people still think that after 20 months of total drivel he is all of a sudden going to start moving us up the table and most of all get us playing attractive football?!!

It's not going to happen..he should stick to playing football manager on his PC.

The bottom line is we must not get relegated. Given that we have a realistic chance of achieving that, there is no need to get rid of Roy Keane immediately. This season is dead, roll on next season when we will have a new manager and the hope of some improvement on the footballng side. Until then, let them get on with it, stay away, see if they can make any progress without showing their fans some respect.

i still think Roy Keane will do a good job in the end, the players have let him down. It is about time mr Elvin King and the Evening star layed off his back and said something positve. It is good to see some comments supporting him

so the sum total of the comments to this news item is 'anyone but keane' i thought that sort of insight was for the 'forum'

Like many of you- I fear Keane is here for the longterm.
Lets stop moaning and get behind the team,-or else we will be in League 1 next season.
Lets concentrate on winning football matches (starting with Leicester). Well, at least until we have lost 3-0 to them!!!
Fulop
Peters, O'Dea, Delaney, Smith (fear O'Connor won't play)
Edwards, Townsend, Leadbitter, Norris
Scotland, Priskin
Please, please, please return Fallon to Plymouth.....

Love him or hate him, it really doesn't matter, the fact is that Roy Keane will more than likely see out his contract at ITFC, I hope that he turns things around quickly, surely we should all want this, I get the feeling however that some of the so called Supporters who regularly post their predictable anti this, anti that, anti everything to do with the club comments virtually every day, would actually prefer the club to fail and be relegated, take a good look at yourselves some of you, maybe it is actually yourselves who are destroying our club, your comments are a really bad advert for Ipswich Town, they help absolutely nobody, on the contrary, who would want to be associated with the type of people that write some of this sole destroying rubbish, it will inevitably deter new players, new Supporters and what Manager do you really think would want to come to Ipswich to be routinely insulted on a daily basis every time things are not going well, certainly not Martin O'Neil I think, I have a long memory and have heard all this before against George. Joe and Jim; nothing changes, the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence, for goodness sake let's all get behind the players and the Manager, maybe if we do we could get the turn around that is necessary.

Mr M. Evans needs to listen to people like USA Blue, as the biggest danger is that lifelong fans are now starting to lose interest - and don't start slagging them off people, when thousands of fans who've cared passionately for decades thru thick and thin stop caring after 18 months of dross with no evidence of things ever improving whilst we continue an inexorable slide down to the 3rd tier of football and no sign of any action being taken to remedy things by manager (who continues week in, week out to make bad signings, bad decisions, adopt bad tactcs etc) owner or CEO. And if you think we're not in the relegation mire right now, you're kidding yourselves.
