Keane: I'm Not Walking Away Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 11:25
Blues boss Roy Keane says he hasn’t thought about walking away from Portman Road despite the current poor run of form which has seen his side drop to 18th in the Championship. The Town manager spent some a few days in Manchester earlier this week reflecting on the Blues’ woes.
With no sign of the beard which was noted in the wake of the Preston game on Saturday, Keane said he hadn't considered leaving Portman Road during a couple of days back in the North-West: “I’ve not thought about packing it in.
"Sometimes I think you need to step back, we all do that and I’ve done it before. You step back, recharge your batteries and look at something from a different angle.
“People think it’s about being on the training pitch, but sometimes not about being on the training pitch. You’ve got to step back from it.
“I had a couple of days with one or two good friends from outside football in Manchester, even away from my family. I think they enjoyed the break from me, it works both ways.”
Keane, who says it's irrelevant whether he has spoken to owner Marcus Evans in recent days, considers himself lucky to be at a patient club like Ipswich, with other managers having been sacked more quickly elsewhere, but admits that eventually that patience will run out: “You can’t keep losing football matches.”

Keane how do you feel working in a job and at a club where the majority of the fans think you're a joke and have no respect for you as a person or manger?

Unfortunately for us i feel Keane and for that matter Clegg will both drag this out as long as possible in attempting to 'turn things round' as if they don't which looks likely neither are liley to work again in similar roles for a very long time. ME is a shrewd businessman and he must have a plan B if things continue so we just have to hope and pray either Keane and Clegg get this sorted quicly or ME does something to protect his investment. Something has to give...

those who say give him time to get us to the play offs, have you seen the league table, the form guide is even worse, there is no prospect of us making the play offs, absolutely no chance with this team, and nor should there be, we are a million miles away from the Premiership, we are a complete and utter joke.

Can't see us bringing in your manager until May at this stage. If they are they will need to have somebody lined up for January. Managers like O'Neill and Alderdice will no doubt realise that the best that we can aim for is a play-off position and that's very much a lottery! I think Houghon might be an option - he'd be cheaper than Keano. I don't see 12th in the Premiership as being a failure, me might be too low key for ME.

whoppit -- he took them to 3rd bottom in the prem, after taking them off the bottom of the champ'ship to win the leauge and keeping them in the prem for a season oh and lets see, they are still there now, whats your point?? they did bloody well out of keane's efforts.

What Planet are you on? O'Neil or Big Sam would not touch this club with a barge pole!! Or Houghton come to think of it! Get real people! We are average Ipswich town, Not the club we were in th 80's.

Keane said “I've not thought about packing it in." he might as well have added I'm waiting to be sacked and having the remainder of my contract paid.

Look at what Keane did at Sunderland. Yes, he inherited a team of Premier League players and got them promoted. He then spent 80m on players. In his first season in the Premier, they barely survived. In his second season, he walked when they were in the bottom 3. Bruce took over and got rid of the dross Keane signed and they haven't been in the bottom three since. Keane came to us and barely made mid table last year. This year, we are dropping faster than a Norwich girl's knickers !!! My point is that Keane can't walk again as he will get a repuation of quitting which may hinder his next "payday" with some other unlucky club that has the blinkers on when they appoint him. He will see out his contract and that will be it. Keane doesn't care where in the table we will be by then and apparently, neither does Marcus Evans.

Yeah because basically after being a failure here you've got nowhere to go so in the mean time you'll drag us to the very bottom while you work out a way to salvage a managerial future. While this happens, our benefactor is happy to lose money and watch you do this and suject misery on all of us who pay for this s***e... The whole thing fookin' stinks. Get out now...!!

bit of a stale mate really this is why i think there has been alot of patience on both sides.... Evans wont want to pay him off untill we are actually in serious relegatin trouble which obviously we are close to relegation but its onl december... and Keane wont wont to quit without atleast a fight after the way in which he left sunderland.. i think he can keep us up but then i think we should sack him with 4 or 5 games left for the new manager to have a good look. on a cheeky note im selling an almost brand new apple ipad 16gb on ebay to raise money for car insurence while im off work the current bid is only £300 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200554965521&ssPageName=STR Have a look and spread the word

Its not many managers that are allowed to run down contracts! They are either sacked or contracts extended. A few months ago a new contract was being talked about for Keano. Imagine if he had signed it!??!!

I'd just like to add that it seems people are too quick to attack Roy Keane when the club is not doing well. Are we not supporters !! We should be be supportive if we win or loose. Ipswich needs more positve support from Local media and the supporters. Any team can't win every game or loose every game. I am sure that this is not will not be the end ! People should all come together and back our team and give them the positive support they are lacking due to all the negitive media. Come on town !!

The only time Keane was King at PR was between April 2009 and the start of last season when we all thought Keane had what it takes to get us up. Since then its been tale of misery. I cannot think of many highs during the last 18 months, just the odd one (Cardiff 2-1 victory away and perhaps Middlesbrough away this season). But mostly during this time it has been a time of arguing about whether Keane should go or not. Several moments come to light, i.e during the non winnable spell of early last season and especially following the 3-1 defeat at Peterbrough back in February (almost a year ago!). And still Roy Keane is in charge! Why ME cannot see that things aren't going to get any better is beyond me, its been 18 months of grimness at Ipswich under Keane. Nothing is nice at PR these days. Cold, silent, no feeling of uplifting from anyone from the players up to ME. ME even managed to get rid of the dancing girls for christ sakes! Under Keane, Clegg and ME Portman Road has become a place of misery and despair. Unless something changes then gates will fall and so will the club into the 1st division. AFC Wimbledon away next Nov in first round of FA Cup anyone. Keane Out, Clegg Out!

RK IS a quitter. Don't worry. He has no social interface. No complexity of character, low intelligence. He will therefore repeat his mistakes endlessly. The best approach is to AGGRAVATE him so that he has one of his childish tantrum and throws in the towel....again.
RetroBlue added 17:27 - Dec 16
Strangely enough Im starting to get positive vibes for some reason!! I get the feeling there has been a "clear the air" meeting between RK, Clegg and Evans. Becuase Roy Keane now seems to have more purpose and resiliance (spl) about him (coming through his interviews). Now he's either feeling he has the backing of the owner, or perhaps has even been promised some more money for January window, or even the short stay in Manchester where he's " had a chat with people he trusts", has helped him focus more clearly on the job in hand? What ever has happened over the last few days - He appears to be sounding more positive. In addition I notice the players outwardly, appear more resolute on the job in hand. Maybe the Club / players are starting to pull together in the face of adversity ? My monies on a Town WIN saturday !!

None of us would walk away from our last big pay check so why would he be any different !! He;s done at the end of this season whether it is with ipswich or without them ...football doesn't need roy keane anymore and ipswich certainly doesn't either ....just hope we are still a championship team and we can attract a top class manager when he goes . We aren't doing ourselves any favours with this man in charge ....thank goodness the cricket team is winning !! got something to cheer up my day !! someone please call a taxi for Keane !!

Why does anyone assume that Keane is remotely concerned about money, in terms of deciding whether to quit? He's worth fackin' millions and would never need to get out of bed again in his life if he chose not to. Whatever else might influence his decision I don't think a few hundred thousand related to his contract would come into it. However, the Club might not be so keen to spray compensation cash around.

I glad that Roy Keane wants to stay on, I think Roy should stay at the club for at least another five years. He has proved he is a good manger at his spell at Sunderland. I think Roy is being to easy on his players. I don't think it is fair on Roy that he takes the blame for where Ipswich in the table, It is the players fault because they don't seem to me that they want to go out and win every game. Roy should bring some players in the club that have that ambition to win every game. Even if Ipswich go down one or two goals still have that mentality to think that they can at least get a point from the game.
