Keane: Two Points Dropped
Keane: Two Points Dropped
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 18:38

Town boss Roy Keane was disappointed that his side didn’t turn their one-man advantage into a victory as they left Coventry City after a 1-1 draw. The Blues manager also says that Town might have to sign Jack Colback from Sunderland permanently in order to keep him at Portman Road and refused to comment on Swansea’s interest in Tamás Priskin.

Keane said: “We played some good stuff, particularly in the first half. We had good possession, good movement and I definitely feel it’s two points dropped.

“We could have been cleverer when we were up against 10 men, I don’t think we moved the ball quickly enough. In the attacking third, we took too many touches, were too predictable, but having said that we had the best chance of the game through Jack Colback.

“We as a team don’t take these chances, so there should be no surprise there. We don’t score enough goals and we haven’t since I’ve been at the club.

“You have to be clever with your play in and around the box. One or two of our players didn’t take responsibility, we were passing sideways and backwards when you’ve got to be braver. I didn’t think we were brave enough today.”

Keane felt that Marlon King deserved to be sent off if he went in with two feet, but believed his side found it harder against 10 men: “If people think that helped us, it certainly didn’t, sometimes it just galvanises the home team and the supporters.

“We would have been happy playing against 11 because we played against 11 in the first half and we were the most dangerous team.”

Keane also revealed that Jack Colback, whose loan spell ends this month, was the player he was talking about on Thursday who has told him he might not fancy another spell out on loan.

The Blues boss says that as yet no new loan deal has been agreed and believes Town might have to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis: “We’ve not had any confirmation yet from Sunderland and a lot can happen in the next couple of weeks.

“Sometimes a player wants something a bit more permanent, what’s the benefit for Jack staying on loan at Ipswich? Some players want a bit of certainty.”

Keane says Colback’s desire for a more secure future could mean he moves elsewhere: “If we can’t agree with Sunderland, we mightn’t have any money to spend on Jack, he might be going to another club permanently.”

Striker Tamás Priskin is understood to be a target of Swansea City but Keane didn’t want to drawn on the Hungarian's future: “I’d rather not have that conversation today. Lots of stuff comes out of football clubs.”

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd had no complaints about Marlon King’s red card and has no plans to appeal: “I think it was a typical striker’s tackle, I think it was over-exuberance.

“It’s nothing malicious, he’s got off his feet to win the ball and when you take two feet off the floor, it’s a sending off, and that’s what he’s done.”

Boothroyd felt referee Russell Booth was right to wave away his side’s penalty appeal late on as the video evidence showed that Gareth McAuley won the ball from Lukas Jutkiewicz, but thought his team were unlucky when James McPake netted with a linesman’s flag having gone up very early for an offside.

The ex-Watford and Colchester manager said: “The goal from the freekick we scored was a goal and it was a mistake, but I’ve got the computer there to have a look at and the referee and linesmen don’t have that.”

Boothroyd felt that in the circumstances, it was a good point: “I think we can look back at the end of the season and say that today is a good result for us because they are a good side.”

Fantastic to see McAuley return to the first team, this is the best Christmas/New Years present we could ask for, give him a few more games and we should be able to cut out these silly mistakes at the back and move on up the table.

Sign Le Fondre and Lallana this month and we should be okay.

A decent point today but we are now 19th for God's sake...whereas Norwich are flying.

Y'know,I can remember wanting shot of Keano the Clown in september/october 2009 & was being told to give him 'til Xmas (2009) at the very least...without wishing to point out the bleedin' obvious it's now january 2011 and we're if anything worse off than then:

A totally unstable side..too many crocks/loanees who aren't up to it (thought Keane wanted the right "characters"?)

We don't really know the team/formation/tactics from one game to the next..

Keano wants to bring in yet another load of players (probably on loan)..

..Can someone please tell me where exactly this is all going?

..and if (God forbid) Keane's still here in the summer does anyone really think that it's going to be any different..it'll be Keane wanting another 10 or so players out & another 10 or so in.

This isn't how it should be done.

Btw..

If our owner is going to open his wallet this january I for one would rather him open it to spend however many millions (it can't be more than about £1.5m?) to pay off mr Keane and install someone available & more than capable of making a late push for the play-offs rather than mid-table at best under Keane.

Burley or Curbishley...it doesn't take a genius Marcus...and whilst you're at it get rid of that useless toad Clegg..that'll save a bit more dosh.

Sorry guys

But for me Priskin does not score enough goals, everyone keeps saying we need more goals, yet we all want Priskin to stay.

He is playing well but we need goals, I would sell Priskin IF it frees up wages to buy a striker that scores week in and week out.

Sell Priskin if we could buy a Chopra, Bothroyd type player but if we are going for someone who has got 10 goals this season in league one, we need to hang on to the lad.

Happy new year to all ITFC fans but will it be for our team?

OK, people have different thoughts on Priskin but the worry is that we will have loaned out over £3M of players bought by keane (Priskin and Martin). What does that say about his acumen in the transfer market? I wouldn't trust another penny with him.

I do not feel sorry for Keane and do not think he has been unlucky. At this moment in time he is the luckiest manager in football.

The current squad is what HE has put together with circa £10M no-one else. And still he says we need 3 or 4 more players. He can blame no-one else but himself.

That is not the answer and never will be, that would take his permanent signings to 17!!

He has taken this club backwards and will continue to do so.

All the fans who are not happy with keane should stop tip toeing around and show their real feelings on Monday. Burnley did and Preston and looked what happened? This has gone on far too long and we are a laughing stock.

After Monday we have Millwall away and Doncaster at home in January. Where will the next win come from?

Being realistic and not a whinger. Can't see how anyone would be wearing those Keane tinted glasses now. Its only his name that has kept him in the job.

Not more Burley fans on here for heavens sake the bloke has had his day and his win percentage is far worse than Keanes. As for the budgies it will only get worse as they look like real promotion contenders now. I didn't go today so can only rely on reports but Mathie thought that was the best he had seen us play so surely we were not as bad as reflected on here. I agree this is not good enough but this board makes despressing reading - we got a point away from home against a top 6 team which I would have taken before the match irrespective of how many men were on the park. Badly need a win Mo0nday now but won't hold my breath as Keane has already said McAuley and Fallon will not be playing. Delaney and Wickham will presumably be their replacements but who knows with Keano.

Have to agree with you StowTractorBoy,Burley is not the man. But how long do we have to wait before ME realises under RK we are going no where. As stated earlier on this board the Bunley fans realised the club were going no where under Laws and made there feelings felt.

At Ipswich plenty is said on the fanzines and written in the newspapers, but the fans have to show there disapproval of Keane at Mondays game against Forest. Keane has had over 18 months in charge and what with wasting over 10million in tranfer dealings and his tactical awareness has split the fans in our club. It worries me how he will waste more money in January and how he drops players after good performances, no wonder players will not sign for him.
Get him out before we continue being the laughing stock of the Championship.

It is scandalous that the 3 teams who came up from div 1 last year are all sitting in the top 7, and we have been in this division for umpteen years now, and those 3 teams have little or no money, well it does not seem as though we have any spare money now do we.????????????????

What a miserable lot you are!!!!! No keane fan but we played well today, more attacking, get in a good attacking midfielder, ambrose and a clinical finisher and we will be ok!!! My glass still full from n y eve!!!!

who'll bet me £100 we don't make the top six this season with keane in charge, there can't be any takers surely

Colbeck has not performed during this loan period, send him back rather than sign him. Townsend was more creative - where is he now!

Keane- "We as a team don't take these chances, so there should be no surprise there. We don't score enough goals and we haven't since I've been at the club"

Well who's fault is that then. You have let the like of Rhodes, Stead and now seemingly Priskin leave the club, players who had potential. No use relying on Fallon (who played well today), Donkey Scotland or a teenager - they won't get you goals.

Keane - you've had 18 months to get hold of a good striker where is he? - certainly no where near Ipswich. Get one by the end of January (not a loan) or get out!

> The current squad is what HE has put together with circa £10M no-one else.

Let's just remind ourselves of the transfer fees paid (as reported), excluding loan fees which we don't know.

£1M for Fulop, who has about a year of his contract left.
£0.8M for Delaney, who can leave for free in the summer.
£0.1M for Kennedy, who looks on the brink of retirement.
£1.4M for Edwards, who is aging and can leave for free in the summer.
£2.6M for Leadbitter, who has done okay but not for that money.
£0.1M for Healy, who we can't give away.
£0.1M for Hourihane, who we've never seen.
£2.0M for Martin, who is so bad he is on loan to a lower league club.
£1.7M for Priskin, who we're probably loaning out.
£0.8M for Scotland, which we will never get back due to his age.
TOTAL SPENT= £10.6M.

Magilton's spent around half that, much of which was on McAuley (a great signing) and Norris (who has done okay). Yet, he paid with his job. How is Keane still here?!?!?!

Burley - No way lets move on - great for us once but great no more

Britanniaman - why is it scandalous that Div One teams promoted doing well - maybe there is a good lesson in that - might be the kick up the jacksee we need as a club - I am afraid to say .. Get confidence , win matches and amazing what it can do - of course I do not want it but it may be better than bumbling along with NO DIRECTION and no leader at the club ...

We seem to think that today's performance wasn't good. A few weeks ago we might have lost that game but we didn't and I thought we played very well in parts.

However it's clear that we need signings in this transfer window in the form of a decent right back, a quick skillful winger and 1 if not two good strikers.
On the striker front why not delve into lower leagues. Look at Morrison at millwall, graham at Watford or even grant holt from norwich. They are all scoring for fun at the moment and we have the chance to go for a Le fondre or Charlie Austin whilst they are still available so get your chequebook out Marcus Evans.

Terrible performance against 10 men- almost as if the team had never trained to play against 10 men before.
5 points now off relegation- and definately being touted as potential relegation candidates.
Meanwhile, Norwich go from strength to strength.
Get this clown out now

I'm tired and fed up !

I'm tired of waking up in the morning here in Australia, switching on my internet and reading the same old platitudes from Keane week in week out.

I'm tired of being constantly disappointed in our inability to compete in this league, looking at the table not believing that after 18 months and god knows how many signings we are still at the bottom.

I am tired of loanees in, loanees out, shake it all about, and maybe a winning combination can be stumbled upon.

I'm tired of any player who shows flair and skill, and something a bit different being shown the door however well they've been playing because of one poor performance. Each player needs to be handled differently. Some need an arm round the shoulder, encouragement and to be told how great they are to get the best out of them. Unfortunately, our manager seems to only know the 'stick' approach.

I am fed up cause at the start of last season i was excited and thought we were really going somewhere, and Norwich had just had 7 put past them by Colchester in a league lower then us. Now the budgies are flying high and we have not moved forward one bit.

I am tired of the talk that young managers need time. There are plenty of young managers doing just fine thankyou including the one up the road.

I am fed up at our inability to sign or attract new players who are young and full of potential and make do with has beens or never was ! We used to pick up, up and coming youngsters from lower leagues and these players WANTED to join the great tradition that was Ipswich Town. What has happened to our scouting system ?

I am fed up cause we are club known for a tradition of free flowing football and win or lose we are always admired for our values ...... No more !

Finally, i am fed up with myself because for a long time i believed in Roy Keane, and i now realise he is slowly destroying this club. I should have realised all that time ago when he sold Jordan Rhodes but i blindly kept the faith. I look forward to the day over here when i get up, log on and see the headline that Keane has finally gone.

Sorry, to post such a negative comment but i have been a diehard fan since 1968 and what is happening now is breaking my heart !

I took my son to this debacle in freezing weather and bad road conditions.
Have no idea why the match report says it was balanced. When it was 11 vrs 10 it was balanced, but against 11 we were struggling. Fallon scored a goal well against the run of play and most of us were talking at the break about how unreal it was that we were 1-0 up. Coventry then blitzed us for ages, putting us under a huge amount of pressure and we eventually cracked. The sending off (which was deserved) changed things again but even in the closing stages you felt that Coventry were more likely to grab the winner (why we were just passing it backwards all the time with no invention at all???). Chants of "Boring,Boring Ipswich" greeted us throughout the game, but then again the taunt was fully deserved. Fallon had a good game but some of our players just weren't up for it.
Sick and Tired of our long ball football ("Hoof it Forward lads and run!"), and Sick and Tired of being told we can't sign this player/that player. Why do we insist on getting rid of players for pittance and then replacing them with more expensive players that are worse?
Next season will prove our undoing if we continue down this path. You won't stay in this division with our youth team.
Why is Keane still here?

We are going only one place at the moment, and that is DOWN! It won't be long before the opposition fans are singing "You're going down with the Ipswich!!"
