Keane: Two Points Dropped
Keane: Two Points Dropped
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 18:38

Town boss Roy Keane was disappointed that his side didn’t turn their one-man advantage into a victory as they left Coventry City after a 1-1 draw. The Blues manager also says that Town might have to sign Jack Colback from Sunderland permanently in order to keep him at Portman Road and refused to comment on Swansea’s interest in Tamás Priskin.

Keane said: “We played some good stuff, particularly in the first half. We had good possession, good movement and I definitely feel it’s two points dropped.

“We could have been cleverer when we were up against 10 men, I don’t think we moved the ball quickly enough. In the attacking third, we took too many touches, were too predictable, but having said that we had the best chance of the game through Jack Colback.

“We as a team don’t take these chances, so there should be no surprise there. We don’t score enough goals and we haven’t since I’ve been at the club.

“You have to be clever with your play in and around the box. One or two of our players didn’t take responsibility, we were passing sideways and backwards when you’ve got to be braver. I didn’t think we were brave enough today.”

Keane felt that Marlon King deserved to be sent off if he went in with two feet, but believed his side found it harder against 10 men: “If people think that helped us, it certainly didn’t, sometimes it just galvanises the home team and the supporters.

“We would have been happy playing against 11 because we played against 11 in the first half and we were the most dangerous team.”

Keane also revealed that Jack Colback, whose loan spell ends this month, was the player he was talking about on Thursday who has told him he might not fancy another spell out on loan.

The Blues boss says that as yet no new loan deal has been agreed and believes Town might have to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis: “We’ve not had any confirmation yet from Sunderland and a lot can happen in the next couple of weeks.

“Sometimes a player wants something a bit more permanent, what’s the benefit for Jack staying on loan at Ipswich? Some players want a bit of certainty.”

Keane says Colback’s desire for a more secure future could mean he moves elsewhere: “If we can’t agree with Sunderland, we mightn’t have any money to spend on Jack, he might be going to another club permanently.”

Striker Tamás Priskin is understood to be a target of Swansea City but Keane didn’t want to drawn on the Hungarian's future: “I’d rather not have that conversation today. Lots of stuff comes out of football clubs.”

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd had no complaints about Marlon King’s red card and has no plans to appeal: “I think it was a typical striker’s tackle, I think it was over-exuberance.

“It’s nothing malicious, he’s got off his feet to win the ball and when you take two feet off the floor, it’s a sending off, and that’s what he’s done.”

Boothroyd felt referee Russell Booth was right to wave away his side’s penalty appeal late on as the video evidence showed that Gareth McAuley won the ball from Lukas Jutkiewicz, but thought his team were unlucky when James McPake netted with a linesman’s flag having gone up very early for an offside.

The ex-Watford and Colchester manager said: “The goal from the freekick we scored was a goal and it was a mistake, but I’ve got the computer there to have a look at and the referee and linesmen don’t have that.”

Boothroyd felt that in the circumstances, it was a good point: “I think we can look back at the end of the season and say that today is a good result for us because they are a good side.”

That's Keane all over Garv..same at Sunderland..if it's not working buy some more.

Even Clegg's daft comments last week about "building in the right direction" & "still on about promotion"...to be honest I don't want bloody promotion under this clown..it's all about "a couple of wins off of the play-offs" etc etc...What about doing it the right way?..ala what Burley did 10-15 years ago..a good scouting team, great kids coming through, the odd free transfer & a bit of flair here and there (Reuser,Petta etc).

Sad times.

Totally agree with Mark and lunatic 38.
Too many players brought in and too much money spent by RK and we are going backwards.
There are enough of us who want Keane to go and its time we showed our feelings starting tomorrow against Forest (perhaps they could take him back to Nottingham!!) i for one will call for him to go and we need everyone who doesn't want him to show their voice and true colours.

We have won 8 games this season and 3 of those were in August!! 5 wins since then is just not good enough and having lost 11 already is relegation form without August.

Its obvious he is not a manager who can motivate and its obvious that any player with any skill or flare he is not interested in. (Priskin, Townsend to name 2). Doesn't play O'Connor when fit and then after one game gets an injury from " a normal training ground challenge"!!

Same old quotes and same old rubbish. All his squad and all his players.
"Characters, learn something about the players............blah blah blah" Boring.

For anyone who looks back over the last 4 seasons at the half way stage this is the progress we have made!!
07/08 - Pld 23, F 40, A 31, W 10, D 6, L 7. 36 points and 6th. (Jim)
08/09 - Pld 23, F35, A 25, W 8, D 7, L 8. 31 points and 12th (Jim)
09/10 - Pld 23, F26, A 33, W 4, D12, L7. 24 points and 19th (Keane)
10/11 - Pld 23, F26, A 31, W 8, D4, L11. Points 28 and 19th (Keane)

Keane has brought in less wins, less goals, less points and less fans. We are no better than last year and enough is enough.

KEANE OUT and show our voices. It will make me feel better for sure.

from the top to the bottom, we are clueless.lets face it. evans is a business man, thought he'd try his hand in football (more money, covrage etc) and is about to get burned. i dont know how much of a hand (excluding his wallet) he has in running the club, in fact, i dont know anything about him at all. maybe its time he came out of the shadows and said "i am!"

clegg- is a chairman for the olympic commitee. he doesnt really know anything about footballs dealings, im sure hes learned but at this level you dont have time to learn. more than likely the reason keane has had to go for his second choice targets and paid over the odds for them.

keane- tacticly inept, in-experinced and an abrasive chracter who regualry falls out with players, and when he does they are no where near the squad. condridicts himself, headstrong and probably (just speculation) hated by most managers in the business. anyone who crosses him is shown the door and resfuses help form anyone

players- directionless, un_motivated and scared. one false move from any of them means they will be out of the 1st team picture (priskin?) played out of postion and have no solid plan from the management.

fans-un-inspred and tired of being fed the same garbage day in day out. over priced tickets, under whelming football and split.

groundsman-no complaints. well done!

we need changes at the top. clegg and keane out with a "diector of football" who knows the buisness in. we need to re-build the backroom staff (not players for the time being) with some decnt couches (most of the good ones let go by keane) and re-build the scouting network (im almost positive roy is phoning mangers saying "any decent players avaiable?") get a motivational manager in a'la keegan (as an example) and steady the ship before pushing for the play-offs. keane has set us back but there is still hope if all of the above is put into action

This time last year Norwich were falling towards the trap door, but they left it too
late and did fall through as we all know, so they got rid of Bryan Gunn (nice guy) also Neil Doncaster, replaced them both and never looked back, and look where they are now !!!!
