Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 10:38

TWTD understands that League One Southampton have joined Swansea in chasing Town striker Tamás Priskin. The Hungarian has failed to make the Blues 18 since a lacklustre performance from the bench at Preston a month ago.

Last week, boss Roy Keane revealed that Town had received a loan offer for a senior player with Priskin understood to have been targeted by Swansea, who are managed by his former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers. The Swans previously made enquiries regarding Priskin in the summer.

Southampton are also now showing interest in the 24-year-old with Keane having admitted that the Blues may have to loan or sell players in January to release funds.

With that being the case, Town could look to sell Priskin rather than loan him in order to bring in the cash with which to sign another striker, one of Keane’s main aims during the transfer window.

Speaking on Monday, the Town manager said that Priskin was close to making his squad for the Nottingham Forest match and dismissed suggestions of a fall-out: “Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Priskin, who scored in Tuesday’s 2-0 reserves friendly victory over Crystal Palace, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012 with Town having the option of a further year.

Prior to his recent omission, Priskin had finally begun to show why Town paid the Hornets £1.7 million for him in August 2009, netting five goals. However, a month-long barren run led to him being dropped.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman failed to make much of an impact during his first season with the Blues, moving to QPR on loan in January having scored only twice in the first half of the 2009/10 campaign.

elmswellblue.. over last two seasons Priskin has started 20 games and scored 4 league goals for us and Wickham has started 13 games and scored 4 goals for us in the league with them both getting a couple of carling cup goals each . So Priskin likely to score a goal every 5 games Wickham every 3 .
I know which one will be on a premiership teams books and which will be plying his trade in league one soon and which one we should try to hold onto and build a team around

Jewell.. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I like the guy but his win rate is just 39%... I think we need better.. Curbs is 40% and Hughton is 56% - Sorry to those that disagree but I think Hughton would be great for our club. Players love him, stacks of experince from having worked with top managers at Spurs and has contacts all over the country that love him and would gladly loan us and sell us players - Not just Sunderland!

Every time i read about Tamas going out on loan my blood boils. I really think under the right manager he would have lots to offer, and he is one of the few skillful players we have left at the club ...... Would love to know what has REALLY been going on behind the scenes to cause his fall from grace.

Incidentally, every time these rumours surface the write up talks about Priskins poor performance as sub against Preston.Yet on this site he is given the joint highest rating of all the players with 6 out of 10 (Scotland got 3 !!!)

Can someone who was there tell me .... Was he really poor or did he not run around like a headless chicken enough for Keane ?

If Keane is in the process of selling/loaning out players for 1 poor performance its amazing we still have 11 players left.

Priskin, when given a chance, and for that matter someone to play alongside with in attack, had shown glimpses of what he can do. He is obviously a confidence player who needs to be told how well he's doing to continue playing at the same level, but Keane constantly slating him, dropping him and veritably pimping him out to other clubs is obviously just going to slaughter the guys confidence. He also needs to play in a 2 man attack, whether it be Scotland, Wickham or Fallon. We were actually winning games when this was the case i.e. Cardiff at Home.

If anyone deserves to get a public slating, in my opinion it is Leadbitter. Keane is only consistently playing him because he has some premiership experience, but that doesn't make him a good player. He usually sees the right pass to make, but then screws the pass hilariously wide or slams a 40 yarder towards goal.

We really need some signings this month, especially the creativity we are crying out for, but Keane and Clegg wouldn't know that player if he slapped them round the head with a wet fish. They're more likely to pop down the local Irish themed pub and pick up the first guy they can find to do 5 keepy-ups.

blooooodcd im with you Houghton all the way. Or Hodgson when he gets the sack, his record pre liverpool is pretty good!!! TBH its immeterial cause if he was going to get the sack it would surely have been by now? so its suffering until the end of the season then picking up whatever pieces maybe left.

Fans who moan about Tamas (scapegoat) Priskins goal ratio should remember he is only 23 or 24. He has another 10 years of footy in him, he WILL become a fantastic player almost anywhere on the pitch.

Priskin can go for good as far as i'm concerned...totally overrated & has been a complete waste of time and money.

Would much rather've kept Jordan Rhodes in the first place & let him develop alongside Wickham.

The last 20 months has just been so much chopping & changing - particularly up front which is why we'll never score many goals under Keane...monday for instance - he drops Scotland - Why?..because he didn't score against coventry??...that's no way to build a team or to let your strikers form an understanding.

KEANE OUT!

Poor Tamas has done well in matches he has played this year and been MOm in many of them. He gets himself in the right positions to score, yes, granted , he hasnt put too many away because he lacks some confidence and that is all. he has mostly had to make the chances for himself as he never gets the right service (like Scotland incidentaly, whos goals bar 2 he has made himself)....if i was Tamas i would want to get away from ipswich and RK, hes been treated badly and deserves better, I would play him every week with Scotland and have fallon as sub and certainly wouldnt put Wickham in front of him! Wickham is a kid living on the past glories of a great game against newcastle last year, he just couldnt be bothered last week against forest and was shrugging and sulky!...one for the future yes!!! BUT WE NEED F*cking goals NOW!!!...Keane has to go ...soon...not payl jewell who has failed at every club hes been at and gotten relegated regularly..houghton would be my choice..and even Burley back wouldnt be to bad as he loves this club and gets the best out of players, plays the game ther right way and mostly gets it right with transfers (sereni and finidi aside!)...come on you blues..and FORK!!!

Give Ronan "young Rooney" Murray his chance up front. He has much better potential than Rhodes. By all accounts Murray looks really up for it and Keane rejected some loan approaches for him earlier in the season. If you dont loan him than play him. He looks good when ever Iv seen him. Full of energy and is quick.
If Priskin does leave (I hope he stays) than lets give Murray an opportunity.

I don't believe this is nothing more than rumors. Keane said himself that there was no problems with Priskin, and I for one believe RK many things but not dishonest. Lets sell Wickham for a fair bit of money and keep Priskin, after-all Wickhams a cart horse!

Brain....If Murray gets a game or 2 he will get dropped, slagged off by the manager because he doesnt put himself about enough and left to rot on the bench for the rest of the season!..become disillousned with it all and ask for a transfer...wickham however, he can do F*ck all for most games and be hailed as a £10 million pound player!..but he makes a tackle occasionally you see so will get the nod..maybe we should try Wickham at Centre half...oh no ..he cant head a ball either despite being freakishly big for a kid!..FORK!!!!

Please tell me what competition Priskin has got, he is at the right age. Not like a bull in a china shop, as per Wickham. Can hold the ball up well, uses his head unlike our other strikers and would be the ideal man up front against Chelsea and Arsenal. Given a continued run in the first team the goals would come, but it looks like Keane has fallen out with another player.

I fail to see how keane has fallen out with him, “Tamás has got a bit of competition, he's just missed out over the last few games. There's no problem with Tamás.". If he wasnt dropped it would either be fallon or scotland who were dropped, and they seem to be doing well enough with a run in the team aswell. You cant play everyone in the team.

Off subject a little, but I cant help but feel if Jim Magilton had been given time, we would have been looking like a promotion chasing team this season if not last season!

nitroblue1970 added 16:39 - Jan 6
Bleedblue you have a point there, i dont think anyone really thought Jim would get the sack after we had just trashed Noooridge too!....we have gone backwards and spent lots of cash doing it!!!

If Priskin goes out on loan, it will prove once & for all that RK has lost the plot. He was man of match 8 games in a row on here. Let's ship out any player who shows that extra bit of magic. Bring in the workhorses & donkeys, they'll chase every ball & tackle anything that moves. Who cares about entertainment. We don't need supporters, they don't know anything anyway. Wait till we're in the 3rd division where our equine qualities will be appreciated by our loyal 5000 home crowd.

Nitroblue, thats what im afraid of. As Keane said previously, you can only judge a young player when u throw them in at the deep end (commenting on Eastman & Smith). In fairness to Keane he hasnt really had a go at any of the younger players. I think he uses fringe players like Priskin & Peters as scapegoats or easy targets regardless of their good performances.

Wickham is hailed for his Youth International performances as opposed for his club games I think. As he is the top English performer at international youth level, with new home based player rules and under contract, Conors transfer value to us is probably at its maximum. It could be a case similiar to when Heskey exploded on to the scene at Leicester all those years ago. Big english lad with potential and good youth pedigree = £££. Now is the time to cash in if we are looking for maximum cash benefit, if we continue to struggle and god forbide end up relegated than we will probably only receive a fraction of his current value.

Brian agreed...dont like the fact that peters is seen as afringe player nowadays...he is versatile and does a job for the team any place hes played, gives his all for the cause.
If Wickham is the best of the younger English striking talent then the national team may be in a bit of trouble in a few years but then he will have matured by then!...but what if he does a "bowditch".....cash in now as you say ...but should we let Roy have the money?
