Town Recall Martin From Charlton Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011 16:07
Town have recalled midfielder Lee Martin from his loan spell at Charlton. The 23-year-old was due to remain with the Addicks until the end of the season.
The former Manchester United man made 19 starts and six sub appearances in his half-season at the Valley.
Last week, new manager Paul Jewell said everyone at the club would be given a clean slate, including those currently on spells elsewhere: "I’ll have to take a view on the players who are out on loan, the loan players that we have here and the players that are here full-time. No one’s out of the door, no one’s in the door.”
Strikers Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie remain on loan at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively. As with Martin, the Blues have a 24-hour recall on Lisbie but matters are more complicated with the Spaniard where his return depends on all three parties - the clubs and the player - agreeing to end his time at Selhurst Park early.
One-time Wimbledon trainee Martin joined the Blues for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.6 million in the summer of 2009 but failed to make an impact in his first season at Portman Road, netting once in 10 starts and eight sub appearances.
The Taunton-born wideman or striker, who had loan spells with Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest while at Old Trafford, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2013.
Elsewhere, former Blue Darren Bent has completed his move from Sunderland to Aston Villa for a fee of £18 million rising to £24 million once add-ons have been taken into consideration.

Golaboots - occasionally passing and movement make him look like a Roman statue too. Let's hope the boy will come good under Jewell. Bring back Pablo too!
warwickblue we dont have a quick recall on pabs, think it has to be agreed by all partys and a bit more long drawn than the recall we had on martin and indeed have on Lisbie. I note that Jewell says all will get a fresh start but as yet lisbie hasnt been recalled??? I know he is injured but..!
Welcome back Lee. Priskin had a second chance and has been one of our best performers this season. This is now Martin's second chance, its upto him whether he takes it or not but us fans need to give him a clean slate just like Jewell has. Its over to you Lee
I personally think we need to give Lee a chance. After giving someone like Priskin a chance who we paid near enough 2mil on then surely it's the sensible and fair option to give Lee Martin an opportunity to prove his worth to the team.
There are a number of Town players who a lot of 'supporters' on this site don't rate. But under a different manager to Keane we might see some of them flourish. Let's wait and see.
unbelievable really how so many are slagging the guy off... sounds like you've made your judgement and are convinced he's rubbish... don't be too hasty...
PJ is the type of manager to put his arm round a player on poor form and try get best out of him rather than drop him and stick him in the reserves. lad alwasy had the potential like alot of youngsters. time will tell, but all hes doing for the moment is having a look at the lad himself - better than heresay and dvd's. hutchings will know of him to from his time at walsall.
the price tag he had coming in here probably put pressure on the lad to perform, that and a poor man manager in my opinion is far from a winning combination for a young player.
Charlton fans have been very happy with him this season and their noticeboards (which you can check out) show that they are really unhappy that he has had to be recalled. If Jewell can get the best out of him, could be brilliant. Martin didn't fit into the whole "longball" system that we used to play. If we intend to play wingers, then could be a great return.
Anyone else heard this "Alan Smith to Ipswich" rumour. Surely dreamland??????? Jan Koller and Alan Smith up front with Wickham and Priskin to support (and Scotland as a Super-Sub!) Definately dreaming. Has to be up there with Grant Holt moving to Ipswich (UNLIKELY, UNLIKELY, NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!)
Am very happy for Lee Martin to return to Portman Road and prove himself to us in his 2nd stint. Good luck Martin and hopefully you can score an early goal to steady your confidence! PJ may well be more reassuring than Keane, and Martin could benefit from his guidance. He is still a natural left winger and I hope PJ uses him in that position. Alan Smith rumours appear to abound due to the fact that Leeds fans posted something up on an Ipswich Fan Board. Seems that we have the wrong end of the stick, he could be bound for a return to Leeds Utd. Our rumours seem very tame in comparison, PJ must be playing his cards close to his chest. Very few hints of anyone coming in (though a few hints about McCauley, Norris etc going out). Like Garv said, would like to see a return of Pablo as our fourth striker. Gives us something different in attack. Not so keen on the return of Lisbie (he didn't exactly earn praise in his first stint here). PJ has always liked large target men though and superfast strikers to pick up the ball from them so I'm not entirely sure where Pablo would fit into this plan! Perhaps PJ has a master plan already, Lee Martin sending over crosses for Jan Koller to get on the end of? (with Wickham learning from the wizened Koller in training?). I am looking forward to PJ's first signings, he does tend to take some risks on foreign players that often turn out to be good (Chimbonda, Valencia etc). Or maybe he will bring in a Superstar from the lower leagues?
Wait until he's played a few matches and then we can all make our minds up....the proof will be in the pudding. Too many of us are too eager to slag players off (even boo them). We've got to get behind "everyone" playing for our club and "encourage". I know it's sometimes easier said then done, but being negative will not help in any way at all. C'moooooooooooon Town...!!!
the return of the messiah mien godt surely the chosen one lisbie should also be given his chance to walk across water /@@@@%$#&^%#@! Still practising all those fancy buttons up top ..................................................................................................Meanwhile, a horse, an Irishman and a skeleton walk into a bar. Bartender says: "What is this?! Some kind of ******* joke?!"
