Hutchings Impressed With Squad
Hutchings Impressed With Squad

New assistant manager Chris Hutchings says he has been impressed with the Town squad during his first two days working with them at Playford Road. Paul Jewell’s former Bradford, Wigan and Derby assistant was confirmed as his number two at Town yesterday.

Hutchings, who was sacked as manager of Walsall earlier this month, told the club site: "There are some good players here, we just need to get the best out of them.

"I've only had a couple of days here, but the players have bought into what we want to do and how we want to play.

"It's a fresh start for the players and it's going to take time to turn things around. It's a big challenge but I'm looking forward to it.

"This is a big football club with a great history and when you look around the place, it has the potential to go a long way."

I believe Tony something-or-other was assistant manager under Keane, and Charlie was the first-team coach.

Tony Loughlan, I think.

Keane never had an assistant manager as it were, he had Loughlan as first team coach/lap dog, McParland as coach. To think Keane had Peter Taylor willing to be his assistant as well, his stubbornness cost him eventually.

Yer Keane never appointed an assistant manager, all others where coaches.

It is reassuring to know that Paul Jewell is supported by Chris Hutchings, a man with Premier League managerial experience and a coach that he worked brilliantly with Jewell in the past. Many successful managers have had good number twos, it can make all the difference.

MPN is right, Loughlan and McParland were coaches but not Assistant Manager. Has there ever been an Ipswich manager before who chose not to have an assistant? In my memory Lyall had McGiven, Burley had Roberts (RIP Dale), Royle had Donaghy, and Magilton had Klug.

Will be interesting to see how they want to play. Jury out on that one. Not being negative about it but Jewell has been known to play the high ball as well as some decent stuff. But nevertheless some promising words - now all they need to do is deliver and quickly!! Best of luck to them - I will be there to support!

But what type of football do you want them to play i want 4-4-2 with two natural wingers and attacking full backs or 3-5-2 with quick wingbacks and a playmaker behind front 2 e.g GIO!

.....words are many, from many, now let's get some points on the board instead shall we ? - sounds logical and good to me.

jas0999 added 20:09 - Jan 18
h32 - We desperately need some points on the board - that's for sure! Would you like to see an attacking side or just a team capable of winning - regardless of the football? Just interested.

It were Saturday night at t'workhouse
And the lads were doin' alright
Weevils and hardtack for supper
(Breakfast wasn't so bright)
But they sang from the same tatty hymnsheet
And felt themselves all of a team
« Lead us on to the glorious altar, Roy
We've nothing left but our dreams »

It were Saturday night at t'workhouse
And answer came there none
In the snow the denizens huddled
Wondered if they were finally done
If tomorrow would dawn glaring coldly
On corpses as cold as Verdun
When a knock came at the doorway
(Insistent, not timid tha' knows)

« Now then lads » said the miniature general
(he came in at five foot three)
« No moping about in the shadows
I've work for thee an me
You teach me your language, your culture
Your Ramseys and Robsons too,
Your glory days here in East Anglia
And I'll tell you what we'll do

You give the team heart on a Saturday
By shouting your lungs out (by t'heck)
And me and the boys will work hard (tha' knows)
There's plenty of talent to show you as yet
We'll find the shortest and quickest way
Of putting the ball in the net
And we'll all be eating chip butties
At Old Trafford, of course …well met ! »
