Town are reported to have turned down a bid from Portsmouth for skipper David Norris. A number of this morning's newspapers claimed that Pompey had offered the Blues £250,000 for the 29-year-old midfielder.

Town aren’t commenting either way, as is their usual position on transfer speculation, although manager Paul Jewell said that he wasn’t looking to move any of his players on at this afternoon’s press conference.

Norris, who is one of the 21 players out of contract at the end of the season admitted last week that if his Town future isn't sorted soon, he could talk to other clubs about contracts for next season, something he is allowed to do with less than six months of his current deal remaining.

The 29-year-old said: “I could be out of work in five months’ time so I have to look after myself. I can talk to other clubs if I want and that is a situation that I have to look at.

“Nobody is naïve enough to think that other clubs are not aware of a player's situation and my agent has been taking a few enquiries.”

Alternatively, the Blues could look to cash in on the Peterborough-born midfielder now, although they are likely to want a fee significantly higher than what's reported to be currently on offer.

Norris, who cost Town a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million when he signed from Plymouth in January 2008, was offered a new two-year contract at the end of last year, but despite the ex-Boston and Bolton man stating that he wants to stay at Portman Road, a deal is yet to be completed.

Mark added 18:38 - Jan 20 Ipswich will just have to accept they made a massive error letting these key players into the last months of their contracts, and pay them higher wages than they otherwise would. I'd rather pay higher wages now and sell the players in the summer for proper fees if we decide not to keep them! Norris would probably be worth about £1M if he had him on a 3-year contract.

On the other hand he is probably our most influential player and the first name on the team sheet each week. So I would offer him what he wants as he is an important player, same with Gareth McAuley.

Suggest Clegg stops worrying about the Olympic Stadium and either signs the players up OR sells them for some sort of fee now. Would be criminal to allow Norris toleave for nothing!

Today Wheater went to Bolton for 2.3M + 1.5M in add ons and his contract expires at end of season. It's not unreasonalbe to expect a fair fee in this situation. 250K is a chancers offer. Based on where we are that fee would never justify selling compared to what he would contribute over the remainder of the season. 1M plus needed to justify a sale.

By not signing our contract he is sending a clear message of intent. We either take the money now and get someone in or lose him in 5 months (in fact, long before that,- he will agree a contract with someone else and his mind will no longer be on the game). I believe that Mc and Chuck Norris have sent clear messages to the club and it won't be long before they find a deal at another one. It might be in everyone's best interests to off-load Chuck now, but squeeze a bit more out of Pompey first.
