Wigan, Wolves and West Brom Linked With Leadbitter
Wigan, Wolves and West Brom Linked With Leadbitter
Friday, 21st Jan 2011 00:17

Wigan are planning a £2 million bid for Town midfielder Grant Leadbitter, according to a tabloid report. Wolves and West Brom are also said to be interested in the former Sunderland man.

Leadbitter, who is contracted to Town until 2012, moved to Portman Road for £2.6 million in August 2009 and the Blues are unlikely to accept an offer so far below the fee they paid the Black Cats for the one-time England U21 international.

On Thursday afternoon, new Blues boss Paul Jewell said he had no immediate plans to sell any of his current squad.

Leadbitter, 25, is available for Saturday’s home game against Doncaster after serving his three-match ban.

Good player with bags of potential if utilised correctly and supported properly by players around him and fans. Doesnt help having 18,000 shouting "ohhhhhaahhh" after every set piece of corner good or bad. Keep him, give him time. Looks great on the ball, loves the club, ALWAYS claps the fans home and away. Always gives 100%. Can see peoples arguements to cash in but for me, part of the spine of the team and WILL come good.

We have not seen the best of Grant for many reasons but to see Premier league clubs interested shows he has got some thing to offer. I am getting fed up with the uneducated football experts who say we need a creative midfielder, Grant leadbitter is meant to be a creative attacking midfielder but he as many players have not been played to there strength whilst here at PR. If he wants to go then he has to go but selling him is a great mistake. Norris should go he has accomplished nothing and is not a good CM he is lightweight, at least Leadbitter has proved at another Club what he is capable of played in the right place!!!!!

2m for leadbitter take it paul, for me i have the same as a lot of peeps on here, for me this season he has been poor, cant take a corner for toffee, adn he is just a battler, we need some one with vision who can deliver that killer pass to feed the forwards and he cant do that, id prefer to cash in and go for some who can deliver that, pehaps some one who is on fire in this championship or leaque 1, as well all no there is some players we could do with out and some we need in ever week aka mac peters ect, so who knows

I'd rather have him than not, but could understand if PJ let him go for £2m+ as he could use the cash to bring in one of his own choices. Leadbitter is a decent hardworking midfielder at our level, but no world beater. If we could replace him with someone who has a bit of flair & vision, then fine.

I'd take 2m for him, we have an ideal replacement in Hyam, and could also use Kennedy sparingly in that role too, Then use the money to strengthen other positions, that are more important!

Just remenber M.E did not give any money from the sale of walters to the manager, so he might not do the same so i feel if that is the case very bad move.

If we could ship out Leadbitter and keep Norris who are both far to alike in style, the 2Mill muted would be good business as far as i'm concerned... LB Promised so much but has rarely delivered... included a set piece.. Infact if i never see him take a corner or Free kick for Town again that would make me very happy... Aside that he's general play is poor and with the money from his transfer given ALL to PJ you'd hope an exciting replacement would be found (playmaker pls)

Corners and free kicks aside (which can improve) the lack of faith in such a quality player astounds me! Can only assume people who are ready to see him go read the reports and only listen to the negativity around his set pieces instead of watching 90 minutes of him playing week in week out. Cant blame him for going because of the lack of support. EVERY player will go through a poor patch during his career, like Rooney atm. Fans support them through it, glad I am one of those kind of fans...

Do we need Norris and Leadbitter? Jewell knows better than me - but would like to see an attacking player. 2M seems about right.

Leadbitter is one of our best players, relitively young still and if Jewell can get him back to his best is one of best players in this league full stop. No arguments

Not been brilliant this season, don't agree we can't afford to lose him, if he wants to go, let him, we need new blood and his fee may help us get the right player/s in.

How is Darren Bent worth £24m and Norris £250k ?? Or Adams £43m (smile) for those keeping up with the news!!

I know Chuck's contract is up and he's not signing the new one that's been offered, nor is Macca, but an offer of £250k is nothing short of insulting and disrespectful to ITFC, is it not?

Could this be his agent pulling strings to get a better deal ?

FFS Cleggy, get Chuck & Macca to sign - on deals that are right for both players and Town. You want to reduce the wage bill, sell Martin for £250k !!

Cant belive some on here already questioning PJ - get a grip

I think all players under performed under RK .. I think GL is decent player and with Hyam in middle with him and Norris on right a decent mid - Throw Martin in with O Connor behind
Some good attacking options down the left - reminds me of 2000!!!

I think it would be a good deal for 2m. He's just like all other signigns Keane made. Runs and fights a lot but that's all. There's only one place in midfield for that type of player.

Funniest game was home against Forest. Four Roy Keane lookalikes in a row (Colback-Leadbitter-Livermore-Norris).

Hopefully PJ finds some more creative players...

Agree that the central midfield should only contain either Leadbitter or Norris. If it's a case of £2m for the former or £250k for the latter, I'd move Leadbitter on and invest a chunk of the proceeds (if made available) in a creative central midfielder to pair up with Norris.
As for people being offended at Pompey's bid for Norris, I for one would say that it just shows that we totally gifted Garvan to Palace.
