Drury Most Likely Final Day Signing
Drury Most Likely Final Day Signing

Luton’s Andy Drury looks set to be unveiled as Paul Jewell’s first permanent Town signing before the January transfer window closes at 11pm tonight. The 27-year-old was spotted at the club on Friday and appears the most likely addition to Jewell’s squad today.

Talks between the clubs are understood to have continued throughout last week with news of the Blues’ interest in the midfielder first having broken a week ago on Saturday.

Drury is believed to have a clause in his contract which allows him to move on if Luton receive an offer of £150,000. Coventry and Sheffield United have also shown interest in the one-time Sittingbourne, Gravesend and Northfleet, Lewes and Stevenage man.

This morning’s newspapers continue to link Jason Scotland with a return to Swansea on loan, reports which are likely to have stemmed from Swans boss Brendan Rodgers’s comments last week in which he said he would be interested if the Trinidadian became available but was yet to make a move.

Portsmouth revealed their interest in Town skipper David Norris earlier in the window with the midfielder out of contract in the summer. Norris and Gareth McAuley, who both turned down Town's initial contract offer before Christmas, were due to speak to new manager Jewell regarding their futures at the end of last week.

Town were again linked with Preston centre-half Sean St Ledger over the weekend, while a striker would also appear to be on the Blues’ wish-list after missing out on Swindon’s Charlie Austin last week.

A right-back may also be in Jewell’s thoughts unless he has been sufficiently impressed with Carlos Edwards’s performances in the role he fulfils for Trinidad and played earlier in his career with Wrexham and Luton.

So far Jimmy Bullard's loan froom Hull is Town's only January addition, however there is unlikely to be any rush to make signings today with the Blues able to bring players in on loan from next week. Many Premier League clubs may not be willing to allow their players to move on until they have assessed where this window’s transfer business leaves them.

Meanwhile, Town have changed their policy on public access to training at Playford Road. Former boss Roy Keane allowed fans to watch all sessions but due to various concerns the club will now hold organised open sessions throughout the year, something initially introduced during Jim Magilton’s time as manager.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee David Healy has joined Rangers on a six-month deal after leaving Sunderland.

Does anyone else think that our best two signings today would be Mcauley and Norris?......

If it has taken 9 days to sign a player from Luton for £150,000 the hopes of a deadline day coup are slim.

I do hope that ME has some deep pockets in the summer as currently 2/3 of our first team squad will be allowed to walk away for nothing.

The best signing today would be Clegg on job seekers.

We do not need to waste money on a new striker, CW, TP and JS are all capable of scoring goals as they have prved in the past. The problem is that they are not getting the ball through to them. If we can start playing proper football again then these players will do a job for us.

Once the new manager gets rid of the Roy Keane mentallity we can start to progress as we have the nucleus of a good team here already. They just need some guidance and a belief in themselves. Onwards n upwards!

We scored 3 goals last game. If the team continue to grow in confidence then im sure we will be fine for goals. Not making sigings today isnt the end of the world. Austin would have been a great signing as he would have improved the goal threat but im struggling to see if there is a similar player with as much talent and potential that is scoring lots of goals.... any suggestions?

To be honest I think DD is more important then DN.

What penny pinching?! How do we know that Austin wasn't just asking for too much money? Do we expect Evans to pay anything just to keep a few fans happy?

Adam Le Fondre scores goals and lots of them.

Plays League 2 but reckon he's worth a go and wouldn't be more then £1millon

Opinions. I think that is a very good point. Although a tad dissapointed we missed out on Austin, i believe that Mr Bullard can help to supply the quality to our existing strikers that has been sorely missing under the previous managerial regime. ITFC need to regroup as a club, take stock & let Mr Jewell identify the areas HE thinks needs strengthening & as supporters, we need to get behind him 100% & give the team all our backing. If he thinks Mr Drury will enhance & strenghthen our current squad, then we need to trust his judgement. COYB.

The teams below us have strengthened considerably. Everyone else has made significant signings which have made their teams ultra-competitive.
I fear that Andy Drury may not be enough, have we even considered the amount of players that have left recently?
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...what a sorry state our club is in.

More creative flair, rather than defensive work horses... just what we need to bring the old ipswich back

Just to put every one straight personal terms were agraid on friday and he passed his medical the hold up is at lutons end as they did not fax the completed paperwork to ipswich. This is going to be done today so this hold up is not Cleggs fault.

Our squad is stronger than most in our league anyway they have just been managed badly , the strikers we have will all score goals at this level if given service ,signing two midfielders to achieve this in Drury and Bullard and bringing back Martin will lead to more chances and more goals .Jewell has been in charge of two league games and we have scored 4 goals ,give the man some time .
It is not all about who signs the most panic buys as we have seen and Boro have found out ,it is about getting the right players to complement the team at the right time

I would say that Norris and McAuley will sign new deal with the club as there has not been a mad rush to sign them up.
Guess Paul Jewell has spoken to them and told him his plans and I would guess the club will start to talk to all the players who are out of contract and improved terms for Norris and McAuley.

Not too bother if we sign anyone or not, Would pefer us to sign someone who will improve the team, I am hoping that we will look to spend the rest of this season playing a system that we will use next season and in the close season go out and buy the player that the club really need to make a challage on this league.

Would not want Town to sign Rhodes as he is a gamble and dont want the club to say he has potental and in 3 years will be a great player. We need players who can do a job now not in 3 years, once those players are in place then have a punt on Rhodes or someone with potental.

Fingers crossed we can look back at the whole transfer window and all agree it was a positive one that will secure Town Championship status next year.
