Jewell Pleased to See Scotland in the Spotlight for Scoring
Jewell Pleased to See Scotland in the Spotlight for Scoring
Monday, 14th Feb 2011 08:55

Boss Paul Jewell was pleased that striker Jason Scotland was making the headlines for scoring Town’s goal in the 1-1 draw at Barnsley rather than due to his possible loan return to former club Swansea.

Jewell says there have been no new developments regarding Scotland’s proposed exit and was pleased with the Trinidadian’s performance at Oakwell: “I’d rather him be in the spotlight for scoring goals. He’s our player and until something else happens I expect him to continue in a professional manner.

“He came on, scored a goal and played well when he came on, and I’d rather be talking about Jason scoring goals for Ipswich rather than going somewhere else.”

Jewell also had praise for keeper Márton Fülöp for making a number of saves, although he thought they were stops the Hungarian ought to have made: “I’d be disappointed if he hadn’t have made them. They were good saves but they weren’t breath-taking saves. I don’t think he kept us in the game by any stretch of the imagination.”

Fülöp’s fellow Hungarian Tamás Priskin was pleased that Scotland, who replaced him in the 74th minute, took his chance when it came: “Jason did well to come on and score the goal. As the manager said before the game, it’s not just about 11 players, it’s about the whole squad.

“We have confidence now. We are unbeaten in four games and we are confident we can go up the table.”

Priskin says he’s pleased to be back in the side on a regular basis and believes he will get on the scoresheet again soon, his most recent goal having come at Millwall in Paul Jewell’s first match in charge: “I’m quite happy to be playing at the moment, but on the other side I’m a bit disappointed. I had a few chances against Barnsley, but I didn’t score any goals.

“I was especially disappointed that my goal didn’t stand. The ref blew for a corner instead, but I hope that the goals will come.”

I would like to see us playing with 2 up front on tuesday as donnie are a little off form at the moment, they are not keeping the ball well at the moment and are nervous at the back (a bit like us) and hit long. If we go at them early we may i think we can get a good win.

Bedsit i said the same thing on the forum yesterday and i think Scotland will help Prisken to score too, Prisken somtimes looks a bit isolated as a loan striker and thrives off people around him. They are a half decent footballing team so assuming the pitch is better than saturday we can also get the ball down and start to play. Whilst keeping things the same is good i think under keane we soon learnt that having one set of tactics means teams soon learn how to beat us. i do however like a settled team so i would simply replace the injured Norris with Scotland and drop Healey who had a decent game again saturday but will for me never set the world alight.

Think you're wrong about Donnie bedsitfc, they're one of the best footballing teams in the league, whilst on a poor run at the moment, they will keep playing football and eventually the results will come for them. seems as over the last 4 games playing with 1 up, and Wickham on the left it's working, 4 unbeaten, why change?

donnie do play good football but at the moment things are not working for them and yes they will turn it around but what i am saying is we could capitalise on the poor form they are in.

Why not give Tamas a rest Tues. and do it in reverse and put him on when Scotland tires. Note it is not dropping him but merely resting him. good idea or not ??????

Donny have lost 5 out of their last 6, regardless if they play nice football, their confidence will be low & thats something we should take advantage of, especially as we are on a nice little run.

Until we get a replacement we must keep Scotland. On Saurday he looked as good as I have seen him but he does need to lose some weight as he does look a bit chunky. Get him fit in the Summer and he may get back to his best. As for Donny they will be a dangerous animal tomorrow and I will take a point now. If they get their passing game going they can beat anyone so make no mistake this match will not be easy.

Brittaniaman; I agree with you. Put Scotland on with Tamas on the bench, if its not happening, swop them around. I also agree with getting at them early, don't let them get in their stride, as suggested they are a good passing side.

i agree too,Brittaniaman, i no Scotland is ,or appears a bit lethagic but he takes his chances ,Priskin has scoredi know but his chances to goals ratio is at best poor.Regardless as to who PJ plays we NEED a decent striker, and sooner we get one in the better.COYB

We gave the ball away so much saturday. when scotland came on he used his strength to hold the ball up, giving wickam and martin chance to join him. Shame we cant play 2 up front, i really feel the power of a Scotland wickam partnership would cause havoc for most defences in this league. Unfortunately the midfield doesn't seem work so well in a 4. coyb

scotland is a goal poacher and needs to play in the 18 yard box, so needs either priskin or wickham to do his running, he's put on a few pounds, he's gettin older, but he's the ONLY striker at the club who is proven over many seasons that he can score at this level

Hard to say if I want to keep the team that is unbeaten in 4 now or perhaps give Scotland a start and try and get at them in the first half instead of needing a good half time team talk.

Isn't it strange that almost every single player that has been on the pitch over the last month has 'had one of their best games' or 'looked like a different player' - I wonder what the reason for that could be? The dark clouds seem to be clearing - keep it going lads.
