Jewell Undecided on Skipper
Jewell Undecided on Skipper

Boss Paul Jewell says he’s not yet decided who will stand in as skipper when the Blues take on Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm). Regular captain Norris is out after twisting his knee and ankle at Barnsley on Saturday.

Jewell, who flew back to South Yorkshire with his squad this afternoon, is yet to consider who to choose: “I haven’t even thought about it. I’ll pick a name out of a hat! I said this when I was at Derby, laughing and joking, and it made the Daily Mail.

“I’ll give it some thought overnight. We are quite a quiet team, but footballers are a lot quieter than they used to be anyway. I’ll give it some thought, but whoever captains the team, it will be a big honour for them and I’m sure they’ll do a good job.”

The Blues boss says he wasn’t aware that it was Grant Leadbitter who took the armband from Norris at Oakwell: “I don’t even know. It’s one of those things in football that’s less important to people these days.

“Sometimes people skipper without wearing the armband — they are vocal and a big personality in the dressing room without having it.

“It’ll be a great honour for whoever wears it and hopefully it’ll be a short-term thing as Chuck will be fit again soon.”

One man who Jewell says won’t get the nod is loanee Jimmy Bullard, the Town manager feeling that the midfielder does his bit on the leadership front anyway: “Jimmy captain? No chance! He’d forget to go and toss up! And then he probably wouldn’t make his mind up whether to call heads or tails! You wouldn’t give Jimmy the armband because he’s a natural as he is.”

think itll be delaney or kennedy, mcauley improved when it was taken away from him but PJ probably wont know this. Can't see it making much difference anyway lol.

give it Fulop and get them all to man up on the pitch and act like leaders anyway!

Give it back to McAuley. One of most stupid things Keane did (and there were many) was stripping him of the captaincy. It took us half a season to recover from that bit of nonsense.

Certainly not McAuley, he as enough to worry about. What about Leadbetter, took over the armband on Saturday, don't think he did such a bad job. Not only that, but he hasn't been playing to his full capacity for a while, this could see him rise to the occasion. No doubting his abilities when on form.

Mac all the way ,agree with Arc should not have been taken away from him just for a slight dip in form unsettled everything as did all of Keanes constant chopping and changing

I am not a Kennedy fan as he gives the opposition far too much space but is a terrific talker so reckon it will be him.

As much as I like McAuley, and think he's one of the best centre backs in the league, Keane was right to remove him as captain as he's only become the player he is after the captaincy was removed. Let him focus on organising the defence what he's good at. I think it will be Leadbitter, Delaney or Kennedy.

would love it be be Bullard for the very reasons PJ says it wont be! entertainment value! I think it will be Kennedy or Leadbitter, not big Mac not sure he actually enjoyed the role...... Not Edwards as he needs to concerntrate on his own game to ensure he keeps progressing as a right back!
