Dyer Rejoins Town on Loan Friday, 11th Mar 2011 09:56
TWTD understands that former Blue Kieron Dyer has sensationally rejoined Town on a month’s loan from West Ham. The former England international will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Leeds.
Ipswich-born Dyer, 32, came through the youth ranks at Portman Road and broke into the first team under George Burley’s management, making 104 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 14 goals before moving to Newcastle for £6.5 million.
Having won caps at U20 and U21 level with the Blues and having been in senior England squads during his time at Portman Road, Dyer eventually made his full international debut when a Magpies player and went on to win 33 caps.
Injuries hampered Dyer’s career at St James’ Park and have continued to do so since he joined West Ham in the summer of 2007 for £6 million, limiting him to only 17 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Hammers.
Town are certain to be paying only a small percentage of Dyer’s wages, which are understood to be £83,000-a-week.
The midfielder, whose West Ham contract is up in the summer, was asked about the possibility of a future return to Portman Road when he was back at his old club for a pre-season friendly last summer: “I don’t believe in comebacks, but you never know, you never know!”

Blues boss Paul Jewell said yesterday that he was looking for an experienced midfielder to come into his squad with skipper David Norris suspended for two games after reaching 10 bookings, Jimmy Bullard a doubt with a hamstring injury and Colin Healy likely to miss out again with a torn stomach muscle.

certainly interesting! looking forward to seeing how he does. if he can stay fit, then he should be a class above everyone else on the pitch! (except Bullard when he's in the team)

Holy crud! Will wait and see him play before I pass judgement, however, sensational news and in the very least will excite the crowd! Really looking forward to Tuesday night now, he'll get an awesome reception.

Dyer...one of the Premier Leagues highest earners ever or at least he used to be in the top ten.

He almost certainly has more than enough for this league..... if he can stay fit! From ME point of view, I would say it's a bums on seats signing before the ST renewals come out. Welcome home Kieron

Surely signing the likes of Bullard and Dyer even on loan sends out a message to potential summer targets that we are going in the right direction and can attract the right players. Whilst i would love Smith and Hyam etc to be playing - if they were good enough they would be in - E.G Wickham. The 3 players with the most quality at the club over the last 4-5 years- Bullard, De Santos, Jeffers.

Could be great and very exciting if he stays fit. However if he only started 17 games for W Ham since 2007... They payed £7m for him + £83,000 per week. I make that £1.24 million per appearance. Blimey

Good player when fit its just a shame he's an arrogant P***k he will probably be to busy tearing it up and flashing his money around in town to play well. probably be a bad influence on conner and other players if he doesn't get himself knocked out in a club first

Brilliant news. My brother in law is a Hammer and said at the start of the season he was their best player. If he is fit will be big bonus, just hope we can extend the loan to include the scum game.

Presumably, we would not have him on loan if he was injured at the moment and not able to come straight into the team, so concerns about overall fitness should not be a problem. He will not be match fit but good enough to make up for that. I hope he doesn't pull a hamstring like Shefki did on his return. I also hope that this doesn't mean that the backroom boys are more concerned over JB fitness than they are letting on. Will get a huge reception at PR against Watford, who, if I remember correctly, scored against with a broekn leg!

I think this proves once and for all that Roy Keane could not attract decent players. Jims last loan signing was Gio Do Santos. Paul Jewell has so far been able to attract Jimmy B and Kieron whereas (Andros Townshed aside who mistifyingly he would not play), Keano's loan signings were the likes of Rory Fallon, Jake whatisname from Spurs and that Loony Tunes full back from WBA The true test is what Jewell can sign on a permanent basis in the summer but it's all looking good to me

I hear Ray Crawford is looking for a game. Seriously though, this is great news. No doubt PJ is doing this only for footballing reasons, but if by any chance he's also playing the sentimental card, then he has my vote there too. This feels like family! Welcome back home, Kieron!

Too many sentimental posters on this thread. We had the best of Dyer's career before we sold him and built a promotion-winning side with the proceeds. This is a pointless signing when we should be using the rest of a dead season to give our own youngsters some first team experience. Just praying we don't make it permanent.

I think PJ is right about the team being quiet and introspective. We need players with big characters. Kieron's best days may be behind him, but if all he does is inject some spirit then fine. Of course if we were paying the £86k a week it would be different. As for the youngsters ... for them to see such a legend around and to measure themelves up against him is bound to be a learning experience.
